I'm kinda late but yeah :D
For fandoms: Soukoku, Jade x Trey, and Leona x Ruggie
For your ocs: Akio x Ichiro, Aimi x Akane, Kei x Daisuke (Now that we know more about them, I'd like to see what you think of these skips, hehe. :DD)
it's okay it's okay! i'm surprised to see no bllk ships here /lh
LISTEN. AGAIN. i'm just not really a fan of this dynamic in general? like, i really like the concept of đ đ characters being a couple, but ehh, for some reason soukoku is just.. not it for me. it's like, i can see the "hating each other" part, but i can't see the "secretly in love with each other" part?? also i just got too tired of seeing it everywhere and the "this ship killed my grandma, okay" part is like. i've told this story to my other friends before, but long story short, back when i was like 13-14 years old and i just got into bsd, i was a part of this gc and all members liked skk, but i didn't, so they came up with this great plan: THEY JUST KICKED ME OUT OF THE GC EVERY TIME THEY MENTIONED SKK AND THEN ADDED ME AGAIN WHEN THEY CHANGED THE TOPIC. like. i get it, they were even younger than me and they said that "they did that for my own comfort", but also.. yeah, i kinda get ptsd every time i see them now /j
i just.. don't really get it?? like yes, i know about their interactions and i know about the whole "oh, trey thought jade is just like him fr but it turned out that jade likes working for azul" (??) thing, but also.. idk, i just don't really care about this ship :'D maybe it's bc i'm kinda neutral when it comes to these characters too (i'm like a magnet for trey and jade simps though. i have too many mutuals/friends who like them JDJSKSALSL) so that's why i don't really care about shipping them too?
tbh the age gap makes me feel a bit uncomfy? like, listen, i'm not the type of person who goes "IF THESE TWO CHARACTERS ARE NOT THE EXACT SAME AGE, YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO SHIP THEM", but ehhh, idk, i think leona is a bit too old for ruggie. i think i like the concept in theory, since i enjoy dynamics where character a has more power and character b is their servant/follower/etc, but ruggie is like.. basically, i think he deserves better jdkdslsdls
WELL. UH. NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT WHAT I ACTUALLY LIKE. okay, i love both platonic and romantic versions of akio x ichiro. they're just so cute, but so toxic at the same time <333 like, hear me out. they have a very cute dynamic bc akio just wants someone to listen to him and admire him and just do what he says, but also recognize that he's more than just his intelligence and he has other good qualities too and if ichiro needs attention and someone to guide him and answer his questions, well, akio would be glad to do that! but also, there's a lot of angst potential since akio still misses arata to a very bad and obsessive degree as it will be shown in season 2 and he may also see ichiro only as a "second option" because he would like to reconcile with arata if he's able to go back home and also, unlike riku, ichiro probably doesn't really share any traits with arata? but hey, maybe akio should just stop searching for guys who look and act exactly the same way and try something new? also i can definitely see them as, like, that type of ship where someone talks a lot and the other one just listens and nods. but yeah, i think they should go to therapy together once they're out. if they're able to leave milgram that is (also hi i'm typing this while thinking about t2 akio and I'M THIS CLOSE TO CRYING)
AIMI X AKANE IS SUCH A CUTE SHIP (both platonically and romantically) IT LITERALLY MAKES ME MELT. like, their t1 version is so heartwarming, aimi finally gets a friend (maybe something more?) and akane finally gets someone who won't look away and give her all the attention and love she needs! also matching bandaids!! brushing each other's hair!! aimi saying that she can hug akane if she's too cold!! (and aimi is very soft and warm and her prison uniform is just like that as well) but also man. i'm thinking about the fact that i've actually never revealed much about aimi's backstory and what kind of person she was before milgram and like, why she was bullied by everyone.. and again, her undercover lyrics, if someone is not her friend, they don't deserve to even breathe. would love to see akane's reaction to t2 aimi, hehe <3 (don't worry, aimi is still cute, but now we get to know how messed up her morals can be) (also the fact that their love languages go together so well makes me go insane)
AGAIN. i love them both platonically and romantically. two angsty boys who have some love-related problems, how cute <3 but also, i think daisuke deserves someone better than kei jdkslsls. kei's morals are literally non-existent and he genuinely enjoys hurting people though one of the reasons why he likes it is because he thinks it's a normal way to show how much you love them. their love languages go together surprisingly well too (the masochist bit made me laugh so hard like if kei found out HE WOULDN'T LEAVE HIM ALONE AND WOULD TEASE HIM NON-STOP). this is also that kind of ship that really makes me wonder how your ocs would react to the t2 versions of my ocs, though in this case it's more about, well, kei's t2 mv and more info about his crime because IT'S GONNA BE SAD.
#also yes i'm working on season 2 it's just. homework. and exams#I LITERALLY HAVE TO GO AND DO MY HW RN AND I'M TALKING ABOUT SHIPS đ#t2 akio and kei are so. *CRIES ON THE FLOOR*#like when i can finally talk about them you won't be able to shut me up sjdkslsl#âlina what twst ships do you even likeâ I'M A CHARACTER X CHARACTER ENJOYER YES but my ships are like#they're either not that popular or extremely basic (like adeuce or vil x neige)#(also ngl now i kinda prefer some oc x canon ships because come on. my ocs are pretty they would fall in love with my kids if they met them#lina plays ask games#lina's friends!#friend: aurora! đ

I Found You
So here is my angsty headcanon for KH4. This could be possible but who knows. I needed to write this cause my brain is all filled with Kingdom Hearts and I have work to do. Enjoy!!! (also im not gonna tag it, but if you reblog and tag as ship that is totally fine!
Riku didnât know what exactly to expect when he finally found Sora. It had already been over a year since his best friend had disappeared and weeks nearly a month since arriving in Quadratum to track him down. Joshua had told him time and time again that things were different here. That Sora, though similar to the energetic boy he had met in the dream realm, had changed as well. That Riku should be prepared for anything. He didnât really understand what the blond had met, but he couldnât think about it for too long.
Slashing through the final Heartless did Riku finally see him. Kingdom Key still held in his hand. Sora turned to an orange-haired girl, âHis guide,â Riku quickly takes note. He doesnât think on it long as the two become closer. It is then that Riku noticed that heâs been walking this entire time. Sora and the girl turn to look at him and by Kingdom Hearts it was really him. He looked older and his hair seemed shorter; even reminding Riku of how it was when they were little. Before Keyblades, and Light, and Darkness. The crown necklace that he always wore shone brightly. Riku feels the smile growing on his face. Feels his heart rate increase. Heâs here, heâs really here. All the sleepless nights, his year-long near total isolation, burning eyes glued to a screen having watched the digital version of his friend be defeated time and time again in hopes of reaching some type of answer hidden in the data, and risking everything he is to cross dimensions had finally paid off. In this moment did Riku truly understand why Sora had cried when they had reunited in the World that Never Was all that time ago. There is a pang in his heart as a shadow of guilt crawls on his skin. Sora of all people didnât deserve to feel this type of pain. Riku takes a mental note to apologize to him once they get home. Sora will tell him that it was okay and in the past and that he long since forgave him, but Riku still felt the need to do so.
Heâs about to call out his name but is stopped halfway when he sees Sora tense and seemingly grip his Keyblade tight. If looks could kill, then Riku would be dead where he stands. Sora is glaring sharpened daggers at him. His ocean blues are filled with none of the warmth they used to hold. Only anger and hatred coated the face of the boy who found it difficult to truly hate someone, who felt sympathy and sadness for his enemies. The same boy who always found a way to smile through the darkest of times, who tried to look on the brighter side of the worst situations, who even smiled in his final moments now seemed like a distant memory. The boy before him was Sora, but it wasnât his Sora, right? It couldnât be. The Sora he knew could never hold such a furious and distrusting look especially directed at one of his friends. Especially to him.
âSora?â Riku says the name slowly, cautiously. Sora seemed to ease just slightly and the anger that was present is now replaced by confusion. Something in Rikuâs heart throbs as Soraâs eyes scan over him. Something was wrong, very wrong. âSora has changed. He may not be the same person you remember,â Joshuaâs words ring in his mind. Is this what the blond had ment?Â
Sora meets his gaze, raising an eyebrow, âDo I know you?â
And time stopped. With just three words Riku feels the world around him shatter. Sora just looks at him, waiting for some response. Completely unaware that every piece of Riku is slowly breaking and fading into nothing. How? How could he have forgotten him? If he couldnât recognize Riku then what about Kairi? Itâs at that moment Riku regrets not letting her come along. But it was for her own safety and benefit. Still, of all the outcomes that Riku had thought about and prepared for this wasnât one of them. He was ready for Quadratum to be a dub. That Sora wouldnât be here and instead had returned to their dimension or went somewhere Riku couldnât reach him. He was ready to not be able to bring Sora home for whatever the reason might have been. Riku was ready to fight tooth and nail against anyone who said that Sora wasnât allowed to leave. Even ready for the idea that even with Rikuâs help it was impossible to bring Sora back. That this was it for his friend. Fate finally had Sora in its clutches and wasnât planning on letting go.
There was an explosion behind Riku, but he didn't dare look at it. Sora does though and looks at the orange-haired girl. She looks at Riku and gives him a sadden look before looking at Sora and giving a nod. Sora looks at him one more time and the remnant of Rikuâs shattered heart hopes and begs that Sora will recognize him. That it all was just some twisted joke that Sora was playing on him and Riku just didnât get the cue. All he wants is for Sora to at least say his name. Give some indication that he has an idea of who Riku is or why he was here. Sora gives him nothing as he looks past Riku and runs off to save the day and take down another monster.
And that was the final nail in his coffin. The world around him became muted and gray. His throat felt tight as his eyes began to sting. Riku had found his best friend only to then lose him in the worst way imaginable. He feels himself spiraling into the abyss as the world crumbled around him pathing way for the Darkness to come and cling onto him. It takes far too long for Riku to register the weight on him and the two voices speaking around him. Opening his eyes, he sees Joshua and the girl giving him worried looks, the blondesâ hand on his shoulder. Around him the world still stands and Riku is still in one physical piece. He blinks a few times and wipes away the stray tears that had fallen without his knowledge. After a moment he looks to the mysterious girl.Â
She clears her throat, âMy name is Strelitzia. You must be Riku, Joshua had informed me of your arrival. I understand that you have many questions. I will do my best to answer them.â Riku could only nod as the two lead him away somewhere to talk. The fighting becomes distant as his interaction with Sora replayed over and over in his head. How did it come to this?

Terraqua Week Day 6 (Free Day)
Summary: Terra and Aqua are getting marriedâand Ven is the Bridezilla. || Word Count: 9,058
Read on AO3
A/N: @terraquaweekâ I could have never written this without my dear friend @localcryptideliâ. We talked about this wedding years ago, and I promised to write it. Itâs here, three years later, blending their headcanons with mine and I couldnât be more proud of it. <3
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
the threads that tie hearts together
Terra never once considered in his entire life that his wedding preparations would include the perk of mice squeaking in his earâbut he here is, in the tailorâs studio, getting re-fitted for his tuxedo, with Princess Cinderellaâs team of seamstress mice on his shoulders, measuring the length of his arms. His muscles were too big for the previous suit.Â
Ven refuses to hire a proper tailor, and instead rents out the parlor so the mice could do their work in private.
Lea sits on a nearby bench by the shoe shelves, the top button of his shirt open, jabbing at his Gummiphone. Heâs quite popular today, pinged every two minutes. Isa and Roxas share a mirror, trying to get the mechanics of their bow ties right.Â
Terra is getting married.Â
The thought. Married. Soon. Yes. Damn. He canât cry right now.
Terra stands in front of a mirror and bends his elbows to see how the fabric moves. The mice are tiny, three of them in skirts. Theyâve developed an efficient obstacle course of threads all down his entire body, a network so the mice on the floor can deliver them suppliesâspools, sewing needles, thumbtacks, measuring tapeâin a jiffy.Â
Lea groans, squeezing his Gummiphone. âThis twerp is going to turn me into a serial killer.â He yawns, possibly for the fortieth time.
âNot an ill-fitting job, all things considered,â Isa says from across the room.
âI do appreciate your sarcasm.â
âWhoâs bothering you?â Terra asks, lifting his collar so the mouse on his left could thread through it with a sewing needle.
Lea snorts, slaps his knee and leans forward. âDid you not know your buddy is a monster?â
âVen?â
âOh, heâs a joy.â Lea holds his Gummiphone up as if heâs about to make a speech. âCome help me pick out Aquaâs flowers. Now. If you could.â He glances at Terra, then back at the phone. âHe writes that in all-caps.â
âIâm sure he doesnât mean to be so pushy.â
âThe other day, he called me to model the brideâs dress because Miss Aqua couldnât be bothered to come to the fitting herself.â
âMaster Aqua was away on a mission,â Isa explains.
âIsa took photos of me in itââ Lea scrolls through his phone, but stops. âOh, I canât show you before...â He clicks his tongue. âItâs very nice. Very bridal.â
Terra is sure thatâs true, but the image of Ven hanging his head so much on someone elseâs wedding is worrisome. Last night, he fell asleep at dinner. âI think Ven is taking on too much stress.â
âLea,â Roxas says, snorting a chuckle and giving up on his bow tie, âyou should show him the texts.âÂ
âGladly.â Lea stands to shove the Gummiphone into Terraâs face. Out of the history, a couple of messages stand out.
Ventus
I got 500 cake flavors come taste them with me
Ventus
Which cologne do you think terra should wear
COME SMELLÂ
i need a second opinion
Ventus
Do you have aquaâs flowers yet?
rememberÂ
we want orange roses and bluestars
Ventus
Aqua isnt here im freaking out
Youre closest to her body type
HELP
After all that, Terra feels as though heâs being watched by several microscopic eyes. One of the mice squeaks with urgency, and he straightens one of his arms. âI donât know what to say... Why doesnât he talk to me directly?â
Lea purses his lips as though this is a secret not worth sharing. Roxas is the one to step forward, a knowing grimace plastered on his face.
âHe told me that he doesnât want to bother you with anything.â
That doesnât sound entirely false but not true either.
âThatâs ridiculous.â Terra tests the bend of the elbow to fiddle with his bow tie. Itâs already done but something about it doesnât sit right. âHe could come to me for anything,â he says with a low voice, wondering if thereâs something heâs missing. Terra has also been a mess. Heâs getting married. Holy stars.Â
Isa huffs out of frustration, turning away from the mirror, his bow tie undone. He studies Terraâs suit. âI donât like it.â
His straightforwardness is well appreciated. Aqua would probably smirk at the sight of it and stare at his neck the entire ceremony. âI donât either,â Terra says.
âSmart man.â Isa smirks, and tugs Terraâs bow tie to undo it. âLetâs change it.â
Lea snorts. âYou might want to ask permission from he-who-shall-be-slapped.â
âItâs my wedding,â Terra says.
âSo you think.â
He-who-may-be-slapped enters the tailorâs parlor through the front entrance, announced by the bell of the ring. Heâs perfectly dressed in his ringbearerâs/best manâs/maid of honorâs suit, vest fitted, bow tie sublime, sleeves coiffed. He sees what Isa is doing. He gapes.
âHey guys,â Ven asks with a frustratingly shaky voice. âWhat are we doing?â
âThey are unbecoming,â Isa answers, wrapping a traditional tie around Terraâs neck.
âOh.âÂ
Sometimes, speaking to Isa is like getting clocked in the stomach. By the looks of Leaâs expression, chewing on the edge of his Gummiphone, itâs well deserved.
âOkay,â Ven says, with a tight smile. He takes the tie from Isaâs hands. âDo they match?â
âA hello would be less rude,â Terra says. âHi, Ven. Can we talk?â
Ven glances up. âLater. Thereâs lots to do.â
Lea inhales sharply. âHey, Ven. Hereâs an idea. Did you know you could tame cicadas to sing in harmony on command?â
Ven whips his head around. âYou can?â
Isa brings a hand up to hide a smirk and Lea passes him a subtle wink.
âPicture it.â Lea opens his arms. âFrom nine until eleven at night, they gather in the bushes. They mutter, a light dusting of atmosphere on a peaceful summer night.â
Venâs eyes grow wide with obsession.Â
Roxas comes near. âYou can also make them glow.â
âLike stars in the bushes,â Ven whispers to himself.
âCome on, guys,â Terra says, unimpressed. âLeave him alone. Weâve got better things to do.â
Ven snaps himself out of it, but not before pulling out a notepad and writing notes. He eyes Terra over, nudging him to open his arms and pinching the sides of the suit. Ven draws them in by the measure of a finger and pulls pins out of his pocket, like heâs been expecting to use them, and marks their places. âJaq Jaq,â he calls, âwhereâs Suzy? We need to make sure these ties look right. Oh, and we need two extrasâwe have to ship some to Riku and Sora.â
Some mouse squeaks in reply.
âI can help her carry things.â Ven gives a flash of a smile and then hurries off.
Out of earshot, Lea gives Terra a look. âAnyone able to talk to mice is a crazy person in my book.â
Terra glares back and quotes, ââYou could tame cicadas to sing on command?ââ
âHe needs something to obsess over. How else am I going to get peace?â
âThis is going to bite you in the ass,â Roxas says, wrapping his new tie over the neck and having a much easier time.
âVentus may very well task you with hunting and gathering the cicadas,â Isa says, a tie already in place, immaculate.Â
Lea groans and Terra feels itâs well deserved.Â
Well deserved⊠the suit may be. The future wife, maybe not. The suit is a glove for every finger with no excess. It makes him a good-looking groom, a nice addition to the closet for any special occasion. The bride is beautiful, no matter what she wears. She is loyal, patient, strong, intelligent, loving, funny when sheâs stern, too good for him, a divine gift he didnât earn and he still canât understand how she said yes.
âI hope youâre laughing at the face of my misery,â Lea says.
Terra knows thatâs sarcasm. Weddings are headaches, emotions are terrifying and Terra needs Aqua like a sip of medicinal tea to calm down.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The others squeal when they walk into Le Grand Bistro. Itâs sunset, the city lights already ignited and giving it the glow of evening fairies welcoming the moon. Theyâve just discussed dressesâXion requests a pantsuit instead, which looks stellarâand they can choose their own styles so long as they all wear the color of night. Simple, elegant. Thatâs the kind of effect Aqua prefers. Thank goodness theyâre almost done. Aqua couldnât handle more hands in her hair and she rejected the flower crown that would have come down on one side to compensate for the lack of length.Â
She fiddles with the ringâa thin, intricate design weaved around a small, blue stoneâas a waiter escorts them to the kitchen. On days when she doesnât have missions, she wears it.
Aqua is getting married. Some part of her wonders about the surreality of it, like itâs a dream or a picture she created in her mind when she was a child, at the altar with a faceless person next to her. Sometimes, it feels like she is already married. Terra has always been with her. Every day in class. Every day strolling through the woods. Every day sparring, sharing meals, bickering and laughing. Her best friend, her confidant, her rock.
There is something about nearly dying that challenges perspective. When they both thought theyâd never see each other again, it made them realize thereâs more to it and thereâs been more to it for years. The emotional intimacy that strengthened after the fact. The physicality of it, when he takes her to bed. They argue differently, they laugh the same. Terra has always been with her, so what is the difference between being with him and being married to him? A part of her is eager to find out. The other is already at peace, a kind of joy Aqua has always wanted.
Ven is in the kitchen, talking with Remy (responding to Remy, who is naturally unintelligible). Plates of cake pieces sprawl out on the table, eliciting oohs and aahs from the others, all patient like theyâre waiting for Aquaâs permission to take a small bite.
Aqua reads through the description of flavorsâstrawberry, fudge, angel food cake with blueberries, red velvet, even coffee. âThe one we requested isnât here.â
âYou meanâŠâ Ven pulls out his notepad and looks through his notes. Remy climbs onto Venâs head, squeaking and pointing to a bowl of flour and eggs, unmixed. âDark chocolate and rum?â
âThat would be correct.â
âA spicy cake? Are you insane?â At his shock and at Aquaâs denial, Kairi helps herself to a spoonful of vanilla. âThis is a wedding, not a club!â
âMy wedding, Ven.â Aqua isnât annoyed, but amused. Ven has such strong opinions about for some reason.Â
âTry this one.â He holds up a plate of a decorated piece that honestly looks delicious. âTriple chocolate, with the rarest berries found in the woods, matured at thirty-five degrees Celsius for a week.âÂ
âBurnt cake?â Kairi asks with a smirk.
âNot the cake, the berries.âÂ
âOh,â Xion gasps, with need in her eyes. It takes a nod from Aqua to grab a fork and have at it. She approaches each piece with so much excitementâ Aqua wonders if there are flavors here sheâs never tried before in her short life.Â
âWhat will the final cake look like?â NaminĂ© asks, the only one not to dive forward. Sheâs so gentle, so serene. When they were trying out dresses, everyone was saying what a beautiful bride sheâll be one day if she chooses.Â
âPerfect,â Ven says, like itâs the most obvious thing. âIt has to be perfect so it will look beautiful. Painted like a night sky, with stars everywhere. You got that, Remy?â
Remy glares at Ven.
âI want,â Aqua starts, and when Ven frowns, she smirks. Sometimes, for the sake of maintaining control, she has to play dirty. âRosewater and cardamom.âÂ
Ven sticks his tongue out in disgust.
âTerra needs something to enjoy,â Aqua insists. âThese are all too sweet for him.â
âTerra is the bane of my existence.â
âBy the way, I donât know if I want King Mickey and Queen Minnie to officiate.â
âYou are way more difficult to deal with.â
Aqua and Ven have a staring contest as the others talk about their favorite flavors. Ven, a glare, a challenge to outwit her. Aqua, a calm knowing that sheâs going to win. Ven relents.
âFine,â he stresses. âRemy, change of plans. Weâll need some damage control. Letâs add someââhe writes into his notepadââfruit pastries, sweet cheese with chocolateââ
âTriple chocolate,â Kairi adds.
âCustard and kiwi,â Xion says.
âAll good choices.â Ven writes them down.
âSea salt ice cream?â NaminĂ© says, lifting a shoulder. âEveryone else eats them, I hope to try some.â
âVen.â Kairi slams a hand on the table. âYou need to add marshmallows covered in hazelnut and chocolate.â
âWe need all the chocolate,â Ven agrees. âCall it revenge on this nasty cake.â
Kairi cackles, but itâs nothing malicious. Theyâre young and excited about the wedding, their suggestions a way of helping. Aqua takes it all in stride. The small details donât matter, only the intent, and letting friends have fun deciding makes the entire process easier. Whatâs bothering her is Ven. Heâs exhausted from taking it all too seriously. Aqua assumes the best intentions, but she doesnât get it.
âYou know what would be really cute?â Xion says. âLittle petit fours shaped in your symbols.â
Ven blinks. âWhat symbols?â
âOh, the Keyblade Master symbols.â NaminĂ© claps her hands. âThat would be so lovely.â
âIn different colors,â Xion says.
âEach a different flavor,â NaminĂ© adds. âMaybe the same colors as your Wayfinders?â
âYou two are geniuses.â Ven taps his notepad. âRemy, we gotta get to work.â
Remy stomps a paw and squeaks vigorously.
âNo worries. Youâll get paid.â Though it seems thatâs the last thing on Remyâs mind.
âVen,â Aqua says softly, pulling him aside as the others brainstorm ideas. âI donât think we can afford all this.â
âSure you can,â he says too confidently, though she and Terra were the ones to save up their munny. âDonât worry,â he stresses when sheâs not convinced, giving her a squeeze on the arm. âYou asked me to bookkeep your financesâÂ
âReminder that I did not ask you to take full responsibility. Remy canât do all of this alone, heâs going to need you.â
âIâve got plenty of time, and weâve got plenty of budget.â
Aqua does not know how that is possible. After the dresses, the refitting of Terraâs tux, the decorations⊠sure, since theyâre using the ballroom in the Land of Departure, they saved on not having to rent out a venue, but the original plan was to have a small, intimate wedding in the woods, something private with just the three of them, minimal decorations necessary, all plucked from nature.Â
All of this is out of their price range.
Ven goes back to the table, back to the stovetop and oven where he follows Remyâs instructions and mixes the flour in the bowl with some milk. He doesnât assuage her at all, like he knows something she doesnât.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Home should be a solace but not when itâs the wedding rehearsal.Â
Ven has ushered in movers from different worlds to carry in artifacts, all decorations, all star-themed. Terra has yet to see the ballroom, but the amount of people rushing through the hallways makes him nervous.Â
Ever since Terra called Riku in the dead of night (in a panic, needing someone to talk to, alone in the kitchen with a cracked mug of tea), blabbing about tripping on the way to the altar, or cutting the cake clean through the table, or stepping on linen and ripping the curtains, or dropping his plate of food, or looking like an idiot on the dance floor, or worseâforgetting his vowsâhe hasnât lived a moment of peace. Sora wonât let him.Â
Terra finds it hard to breathe. What if he chokes on his vows and accidentally offends everyone?
He stays far away from the workersâitâs for the best. No one needs a huge bull stampeding in a china shop, destroying everything.
Lea crosses the hallway on his sixth trip and enters one of two entrances to the ballroom, vases of flowers in his hands. Terra peeks. From the looks of it, Ven did a fantastic job.Â
The ballroom, once gold, now looks like the set of night. The ceiling is covered in blue with twinkling lights. The table linens are also dark, with napkins and silverware sets a solid gold. Glass windows that take up one entire side to the ballroom are bare of curtainsâthe wedding is planned for after sunset so theyâd be declaring their vows under the stars. Two navy blue carpets come in through both entrances of the ballroom, meeting in the middle and then straight to the altar at the far end. The point is for him and Aqua to enter together, like equals. With her in a bridal dress, sheâll look like a light in the darkness.
Through the doorway, Terra can see Riku and Sora, the latter making motions with his arms as if heâs flapping like a bird. Terra lets the door close so they donât notice him.Â
There are fears heâs never voiced.
What if she realizes she doesnât want to get married to him after all? At the altar no less?
Oh stars, what if he makes a terrible husband?Â
What if he neglects her?
What if, years down the road, she realizes after a slowly oncoming epiphany that she isnât happy and regrets it?
Tonight is the party, tomorrow is the wedding, and Terra still has no vows. He pinches his nose hard enough to distract him from crying. Heâs already cried five times in the arc of three hours.
Footstepsâlight, brisque, confident, hersâapproach him, and Terra embraces her in his arms, taking her in with a needy kiss. She smells like home, she lets him breathe again.Â
âYou look like youâre about to fall apart,â she says, stroking a thumb on his cheek.
âNot if youâre my glue.â
She snorts, smacking him on the bicep. âWhat did I say about the puns?â
âShower you with them.â
He kisses her before she can roll her eyesâ
âand gets interrupted the moment Ven peeks out of one door.Â
âWhatâs with the hold-up?â he says.
Terra breaks from the kiss, casually noticing how Aqua is patting his shoulder, as if to warn him. âWhatâs with your attitude?â
Ven pouts like heâs about to choke and slaps the notepad to his forehead. âNo one listens to me. I said baby blue and champagne on the napkins, all shaped to form the constellation of Juno⊠and they gave me yellow. I am gonna complain so much.â
âThere are worse things?â Terra says and Aqua shakes his shoulder as another warning.Â
Ven snaps his eyes open. âGet into position, weâre starting.â
Aqua stands behind one door and Terra goes to the other, waiting for the cue to enter. On the other side, Ven is speaking out loud, organizing people and where they should stand. Grooms and bridesmaids will enter the altar from behind and gather together, leaving the carpet only for the star couple (no pun intended). He interrupts himself, raising his voice about vases that match too much and Terra can imagine him pointing across the room.
âI have to tell you something,â Aqua loudly whispers from the other side of the hall.Â
Terra runs to her and wraps an arm around her waist. Touching her is a panacea. Despite knowing there is still a possibility sheâll rethink this entire relationship, it seems unreal, like a nightmare.
âItâs about Ven,â she continues, keeping her voice low even though theyâre the only ones in the hall.
âLea threatened to slap him.â
She frowns.
âWhatâs wrong?â he asks.
âDonât you think itâs too expensive?â
âI donât know. Ven doesnât tell me how much anything costs.â
âItâs way more than we have saved up.â
Terra gapes. âThen howâ?â
Aqua stammers, fiddling with her fingers. âI looked into his books.â
Terra melts into a breath-heavy laugh, careful to keep his voice out of it. âReading peopleâs diaries? Aqua, I thought I knew you better.â
She blushes. âI didnât mean to, but I was worried.â Now Terra is worried. Her expression is too serious. âVen has been doing side-missions and hustles for months just to earn enough to hire the best chefs and tailors, to buy linens and all these flowers and carpetsââÂ
âHe wouldnât.â
âHe did.â
âWhy?âÂ
âI think itâs because he wants us to be happy.â
âWe are.â Terra doesnât appreciate how he doesnât sound confident, scared heâs assuming too much on her behalf. âHow could he justâŠâ
âWe were stuck in darkness for so long and he couldnât help us.â
âBut thatâs not his fault.â
âHe feels he is the weakest and wants to compensate.â Aqua grimaces and she blinks back tears.Â
âI feel so guilty.â
âI feel worse.â
âWhy?â
Aqua bites her lip. âIâm still attached to the idea of a small, intimate ceremony in the woods. Just the three of us. Does that make me a horrible person?â
âNo. Our wedding has become a spectacle. Maybe pointing that out makes me terrible, too.â
She groans. âI found a book. I left it in your room. Itâs very last minute, but there are some ancient rituals in there that I found so beautiful⊠the exchanging of rings is beautiful, too, but modern and there are some lost traditions from our Keyblade history that Iâd love to do instead... if you could take a look?âÂ
The way she smiles, stars. Ancient, modern, heâd do anything for her. âSure. Iâll read it tonight.â
Aqua winces. âHeâll be so angry with us.â
Terra squeezes her hand. âHe wants us to be happy. Think about that.â
One of the doors burst open, and Lea sticks his head out. âKindly stop being an ass and donât keep your guests waiting anymore?â
They start: Terra at one entrance, Aqua on the other, entering the ballroom at the same time, where guests will watch them approach one another, like the shadow of the moon to a star. They meet at the point where their lanes merge into one.Â
Terra offers his armâ
âNonono,â Ven warns, running up to them. âYou canât meet her like this. You must bow at a forty-degree angle.â Ven scans the room frantically. âHere, I have a ruler.â
After that hiccup, Aqua finally takes Terraâs arm, walking down the single aisle, where guests can ogle at them. Their groomsmen and bridesmaids take pictures with their Gummiphones for their arrival at a wall of flowers.Â
Sora has his hands behind his head and snickers when they reach the end. âI made sure the carpet is ironed out so she doesnât fall with you.â
âIâm going to kick you in the shins,â Terra says.
He snorts and wipes his nose. âIâll kick you back.â
At the altar, Ven is too excited to stop rambling. âWe have to make sure that you arrive here, at this spot, at exactly nine-thirty so we can finish the vows at ten because...â He frames the windows with his hands. âWeâve got a perfect spot for star sighting so we need to be on time.â
âDo you mean, right after the wedding ceremony?â Aqua asks.Â
âBefore the reception, yup. Weâre walking out to the balcony, weâll watch the meteor shower where a new world will be born, then weâll come back in for supper and dancing.â When he notices their stupefied faces, he continues, âI spent three weeks finding the right angulations so you can witness a unique astronomical event, and weâve got a miracle of a spot right here so we canât be late.â
âItâs a wonderful thought, Ven,â Aqua says, her voice shaky.
âOkay, now you get into position and face each other.â He points and they follow. âNext, Mickey and Minnie will talk some stuff, you know, all official, and then you say your vows.â
Terra freezes up. âOur vows.â
âYeah. Thatâs what I said. You ready?â
Terra hesitates and Aqua speaks for him. âWeâre keeping those a secret until tomorrow.â
Ven pauses, then shrugs. âFair enough.â
Aqua doesnât let Terra have another thought, leaning forward to kiss him in front of everyone (aahs and awws elicited), and ending the rehearsal.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
âHow do you get your skin so clear?â Kairi asks, though the warm glow of the fire makes for spectacular lighting.Â
Theyâre camping in the woods near the waterfall, equipped with warm blankets and pillows, a bowl of cookies, and toasted marshmallows on sticks; Aquaâs vision of a bachelorette party. No gifts necessary.
âMountain spring water does wonders for you,â Aqua says.
âIâve read in a magazine,â Xion says, crawling out of her sleeping bag, âthat some people like to put mud on their faces to get clean skin.â
âWhy?â NaminĂ© asks, chewing on a marshmallow.
âSomething about the properties. Lots of good minerals.â She walks over to the creek, digging her hands into the dirt and smashing it into her face against the shocks and cries of the other girls. âIf mountain water is good for you, then that must mean this mud is magical.âÂ
âIs that true?â Kairi says, though sheâs asking no one. She hurries over and joins in on the mud-mashing, running fingers over Xionâs face in places sheâs missed.
With globs of mud in their hands, they bring over the excess to the camp.Â
Xion offers it to Aqua. âFor beautiful skin on your special day?â
âItâs our job to pamper,â Kairi says with her hands out so that NaminĂ© can scoop up the mud on her own.Â
Aqua tries not to chuckle too loudly. Itâs adorable. âOkay,â she says, and Xion gets to work, massaging it into her skin. It smells unpleasant, earthy and mukky. She closes her eyes and tries to relax regardless.
âI think weâre supposed to keep it on our faces for at least a half hour,â Xion says, rubbing more on Aquaâs nose.Â
âThis will make us prettier?â NaminĂ© asks.
âCleaner,â Kairi says.Â
NaminĂ© blinks, already covered in the mud and hesitating to put on more. âBut we look dirty,â she says quietly.
âCan I request something, Miss Aqua?â Xion says, patting her fingers onto Aquaâs forehead.
âCertainly.â
âCan you tell us the story of how Terra proposed?â
Kairi jumps and squeals, and NaminĂ© claps her hands, both of them chattering please, please, weâre dying to know.
âWeâre around a fire,â Kairi says, as if thatâs a convincing argument. âWeâre supposed to tell stories.âÂ
âI feel bad for asking,â NaminĂ© says. âYouâre very private, and I donât want to intrudeâŠâ
Aqua reads her face. âBut youâre curious.â
NaminĂ© pouts. Xionâs eyes go wide, and Kairi nods excitedly. Everyone is guilty as charged.
âItâs a simple story, I guess,â Aqua says, crossing her legs and watching the fire. Itâs not often that she talks so openly about the details of her relationship. The two of them together is something people know, but never knowing where they come from and why, except for Venâeven then, thereâs so much he never pries to. Watching their reactions is a little overwhelming. She rubs the stone on her ring. âTerra made the engagement ring with his own hands, but he took months to propose.â
âI remember that,â Xion says, sitting on her chair and smiling. âIt annoyed Lea so much that he offered to set you both up just to get it over with.â
Aqua laughs. âIâm grateful we had it to ourselves.â
âWas it romantic?â Kairi asks.
âNot at all. I⊠knew he was up to something. I know him.â She lifts a shoulder. âHe was burning breakfast too often, he couldnât look me directly in the eye, and he left on his own to do more missions than usual. I took that as though he had done something wrong. The last time he was that clumsy and avoidant, it was because he accidentally cast Firaga in the library and was trying to hide it. Or when he broke the oven. Or when he offered to do my laundry but didnât know how to treat my fabric and ruined my clothes.â
âHe sounds like a clumsy oaf,â Kairi says.
That makes Aqua smile. She loves that oaf. âHe is. The general rule of thumb is that a clumsy, avoidant Terra is usually hiding something.â
âSo how did the proposal happen?â NaminĂ© asks.
âI cornered himââ
Kairi snorts.
ââand he blurted it out.â
They giggle, Kairi acting out how that may have looked and NaminĂ© holding her hands over her heart in a show of genuine affection.Â
Aqua smiles to herself, a finger to her lips. It might be her favorite memory, her standing her ground and demanding to know what was going on.Â
Terra, looking all around the terrace except for her face, guilty, guilty, guilty, pulling a box out of his pocket and stammering for a cohesive sentence. Well, I donât know what to say, he had said, like a child getting grounded. I-Iâm sorry. Iâm dumb, Iâm a big lump of a human being. He paused, his cheeks rounding up like he was about to vomit. WillâŠwill you marry me, anyway?
It felt like racing in a train and pulling all the stops, crashing. He got red in the face, tears welling in his eyes and she realized he took her silence as rejection. Aqua had to hold his forearms, and all she could utter was a soft, I genuinely thought you burned down a building.
Terraâs eyes went wide. Do you mean youâre not mad?
Of course not. Why would I be?
So⊠He licked his lips, reaching for her but not touching her, forgetting that he had the box with the ring inside. What do you say? I mean, you donât have to give me an answer straight away. I mean, I just thought you would⊠you know⊠because⊠He sighed. Yeah.
Aqua finally laughed, and kissed him on the cheek. Of course I will marry you, you beautiful dork.
The laughter quiets around the fire. Theyâre waiting for Aqua to continue her story.
âThen he drops the ring.â
They howl, melting into a blissful exchange of cheers and gossip, a vibrant hearth brighter than the one keeping them warm.Â
âI had hoped to propose first, actually,â Aqua continues. She shrugs. âThe end.â
âThat was beautiful,â NaminĂ© says, wiping her eyes.
âIf Sora hears about this, heâll never leave Terra alone,â Kairi says, grinning something mischievous.Â
âI donât know what love is supposed to look like,â Xion says thoughtfully, gazing at the sky. âBut it sounds sweet.â
In Aquaâs opinion, the proposal was perfect, him scattered on the ground frantically searching for the ring, her on her knees helping him. How he slipped it on her finger, how they kissed for an hour in the dirt, unaware that they were dusty, unaware that anyone else existed in the world.Â
Aqua nods, mostly to herself. It aches to be away from Terra tonight but it burns her insides to see him tomorrow and finally do this. Aqua wants to sleep and get this night over with but she doesnât want to sleep so she could see the sunrise, knowing heâd be up early watching the same thing.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Bachelor parties arenât fun.
Sora is whooping about a cannonball, the water splashing when he makes contact. Ven and Roxas race to the lake, testing who will be the first to dive, the first to swim across and come back. Considering the expanse of the surface area, theyâll be gone for a while and the barbecue will get cold, but maybe itâs for the best. Itâs not the right time to talk to Ven right now, not when all of them have a moment of fun (except for Terra, the only one here thinking about tomorrow). Lea and Isa prefer to relax, sipping drinks on their chairs by the lanterns erected onto the sand, speaking quietly about memories, about chores, about home and what ifs.Â
Terra sits by himself, the thin booklet Aqua gave him on his lap, tucked under layers of parchment. Itâs titled The Way, no author. She was right: old Keyblade rituals are interesting, almost possessive, their focus on the literal binding of hearts. Theyâre from the Age of Fairytales, and Terra realizes as he reads through it that ancient Keyblade wielders were for some reason obsessed with the loss of memory and the prevention of it. The rituals sound painful, tooâmaybe Aqua has developed a mild taste of macabre from her time in the Realm of Darkness.Â
All Terra has left to do are his vows. His stupid, dorky-sounding vows. He should have accepted the simple, âI do.â He shouldnât have waited until the last minute.
Heâs tried dramatic.
You are my other half, my heart, my breath of life, my sky, my angel, can we keep our souls together?Â
Heâs tried poetic.
The mountain will thirst if not for the waterâÂ
Heâs tried being honest.
I donât know why you love me, but Iâll do my best to make it up to you.
All dumb.
Terra groans into his hands, eyes wide in existential blunder.Â
âKeep doing that,â Riku says, setting a chair next to him and sitting down, âand you wonât be able to blink again.â
âIâm not finished.â
âBut if you donât sleep, then youâre more likely to have accidents.â
Terra gapes and almost whacks Riku on the side of the head from the sight of his constricted smirk. âYouâre so mean. I called you one time.â
âIn a huge panic talking about causing mass destruction of a wedding the worlds have never seen.â Riku shrugs nonchalantly. Thatâs his state of beingâtoo cool for anything, too sensitive for everything. Itâs refreshing. âIt was the funniest phone conversation Iâve ever had.â
âIâll never call you again.â
âNot in the middle of the night, please no.â Riku bites a forkful of steak. âIs it clichĂ© to tell you to speak from the heart?â
âThis entire conversation is clichĂ©, but here I am, living it out.â Terra stares at his messy pages, where he pressed the pen so hard that it left ink blots.
âYou could do the very committal thing and tell her you love her fifty times.â
âAll the guests would leave by the time I reach twenty-five.â
âMore like fifteen.â
âTen.â
âDisaster.â
Terra grimaces, not entirely comforted, but not entirely anxious anymore, either. âI donât know what Iâm supposed to do.â
âIt is a big deal, Iâll give you that,â Riku says, more serious. âI donât have any advice.â
âNone of it makes sense. Be honest, but not too honest. Be loving, but donât make it cheesy. Express yourself, but hold back on certain things. Do make it personal. Donât expose personal details. How am I supposed to know how to do it right?âÂ
It would be easier if there are no witnesses. If itâs just Ven, if Aqua is the only person heâs talking to, if he could simply say, Youâve been my best friend for as long as I can remember. I know Iâve fucked up. For as long as I live, Iâll never do that again. I will never take your forgiveness for granted.
And if she doesnât want to be with him anymore, thereâd be nothing he could say to make her stay.
âI think if Aqua was the kind of person who expected you to do it right,â Riku says, looking out to the lake where Ven and Roxas are swimming back to their shore, âyou wouldnât be marrying her.â
Terra bends the pages, exposing the cover of the thin, leather bound booklet. There are no vows he could use in there, except for the officiator declaring their hearts intertwined. âThank you,â he mumbles.
âSorry I canât be of more help.âÂ
Riku pats him on the shoulder and leaves him alone to take a walk, Sora begging him to enter the water. Terra flips to a page where heâs repeated I love you, I love you all over, each in different calligraphy, like doodling, like losing his mind and procrastinating the night away, hoping that any moment, inspiration would drop bricks on him.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Itâs time.
The strangest part of the day is waiting it out in her bedroom until itâs her turn to show herself. Over the years, her bedroom has been a reflection of her personality. The cleanliness, the artifacts from her home world long ago, the size of the bed, the furnitureâthey all stayed the same. Whatâs come and gone were the paint colors, the bedsheets, the art on the wall, the smaller vanity mirror. Her bedroom is her old life, and she sits in front of the mirror in her brideâs dress, about to start a new one. For now, they both collide, as though her childhood doesnât know her.
The cape dress is simple, plain white with the neck scooped across the collarbone. The sleeves slit at the shoulders, draping over to the floor with the rest of the train. Aqua couldnât have asked for something better. She completes the look with the ring, a jeweled hair pin on one side, and an armored choker. Makeup is minimal.Â
Aqua is surprisingly calm and the sun is going down.Â
Her Gummiphone buzzes with a text message.
Terra
Letâs do it
Aqua sighs, not texting back immediately.
Aqua
I donât want to break Venâs heart
Terra
Iâll talk to him
We can both get what we want
I already stole some flowers from the wall
Donât think he notices
She chuckles, moving a hair strand behind her ear. She hasnât noticed that her stomach has been a knot, from excitement, from nerves, from anticipation. The sun takes so long to set. Terra is the warmth of a tight blanket.
Aqua
Will this label me as a runaway bride?
Terra takes a long time to answer, giving her the impression that he must have been distracted and forgot to reply.Â
It buzzes.
Terra
The shame
Aqua
What will they think when they find out the groom seduced her to it
Terra
The scandalÂ
when they hear how she met him secretly at the creekÂ
an hour before the ceremony
It sounds like an action plan. Aqua picks up her bouquet of orange roses and bluestars from her vanity table, heading out the door.
Aqua
I want Ven there
Terra
Definitely
I love you
Aqua
I love you too
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Terra finds Ven in the dining room, taking inventory of an indulgement of sweets and a feast of meats, fritters, and rice. The wedding cake is as tall as his body, a dark blue with smacks of gold glitter in the shapes of galaxies, large stars framing each layer, and topped with two halos. Ven is mostly dressed in his vest and tie, the suit missing. By comparison, Terra is overdressed, a groom ready for his encore.
Ven sighs when he sneaks a cookie the shape of the Keyblade Master symbol into his mouth, as though Terraâs presence reminds him of disappointment.Â
âI couldnât tame the cicadas,â he says morosely, like heâs apologizing, and for a moment Terra second-guesses what heâs about to do. Ven eyes the white rope curled around Terraâs shoulder. âWhatâs that for?â
âThis may either cheer you up or piss you off,â Terra says, dropping The Way on the counter.
âI donât like how you said that.â As Ven flips through pages, he frowns, chewing on the side of his lip. âAre you... not happy with the wedding preparations?â
Terra inhales, caught off guard. âOf course I am. Happy, I mean. Itâs⊠huge. Itâs a giant ordeal.â
âAnd you donât like that,â Ven says quietly, stroking one of the pages with his thumb.
âI think there are things weâve always wanted to have privately.â Terra sits on a stool, but Ven wonât look him in the eye. âAnd we want you to be there. We can do it now. Weâll be back in time for our guests.â
The booklet shakes in his hands. âI messed up.â
âFrom my point of view, Iâll be eating very well tonight. Thereâs nothing to compensate for.â
Ven closes the book. âI just wanted to do a good job.â
âIf you allow Lea to slap you, heâll forgive you.â Terra smiles, but Ven doesnât join him. âWeâre still doing your grand ceremonyâthat, we could never pull off on our own. But we also want something tiny and ours, and we wonât do this without you.â Terra takes Venâs hand and squeezes it, before glancing at the cake. âI hope itâs delicious.â
âItâs disgusting so youâll definitely like it.â
âSee, I can always count on you.â Terra stands up. âNow come on. You wouldnât want us to be late for the bride.â
Terra takes him to the creek, not far from where Aqua hosted her bachelorette camp, where the sound of rushing water is gentle and the creek splits into two directions, one that would drip off the side of a cliff and one that would join a massive river downstream. The trees huddle close in the clearing, a soft shadow from the fierceness of the setting sun, like a pocket of protective magic in the middle of the forest.Â
Ven gasps. âYou stole my flowers.â
âPlease, you didnât even notice.â Terra had built an easy wooden arbor before the crack of dawn that morning, an arch weaved with orange and blue flowers, spotted every so often with green lilies. He showered right after so no one would suspect.
âLetâs take it over there.â Ven points to a short boulder against a tree nearby, a good photo op. They pluck the arbor up from both sides and plant it in front of the boulder. Ven takes stock of the sight. âNot bad.â
âThanks!â
âI take credit for the choice of flowers.â Ven rolls the rope into a tight circle, layering it on the boulder with each loop in equal circumference. He splays the book open and studies. âItâs kinda creepy,â he says though he gets no response and he doesnât ask for one.
Terra shoves his hands into the pockets of his tuxedo and waits. Aqua isnât here yet. The vest constricts his breathing, the thicket suddenly feels humid, and Terra wipes his cheek, realizing that his heart is beating fast. Time sped up to this moment and dropped him here without warning. Now itâs slowing down out of pure, unjustifiable spite to torture him in the final hour.Â
âYou okay, dude?â Ven asks.
Terra lifts his face to the sky to keep the tears in his eyes. âIf I cry now, I think Iâll cry for the rest of the night.â
Ven snorts. âNo one would be surprised, trust me.â
But itâs not working. Heâs two seconds from sobbing. âI donât know. IâŠâ He scoffs. âI canât believe itâs happening. Iâm expecting her to never show up or brush me off last minute when she realizes what weâre doingââ
âNo.â Ven approaches Terra like heâs about to punch him in the stomach to make a point. âDonât think like that, sheâd never do that.âÂ
Ven has good faith and better timing. Aqua approaches the other side of the clearing, the fabric of her dress gracefully making waves with every step, the foliage fluttering light and shadow on her figure. She holds her bouquet in one hand and a framed photograph tucked under the other.
It shocks Terra.
He canât stop the flow of tears. He covers his shivering lips and the drip of his nose, his face twisting from the sight of herâbrilliant, like sheâs made of stars, a gift walking the earth.
âTerra, are you okay?â Aqua asks, rushing to him now, the train of her dress bouncing behind her.Â
In the flash of an instinct, Terra runs to meet her, tripping over a branch and landing right into her arms.Â
âYouâreââ Terra sucks air in, his heart shoving itself up his esophagus. âY-youâre s-so beautiful.â
Aqua uses her pinky to wipe his tears. âSo are you.â
âLet me help you.â He takes the frameâa portrait of the Master, bordered with a white ribbonâand walks her to the arbor. Ven takes the portrait and places it on the boulder, their little family tied together, fractured in glued pieces, now and always. Before they start, Terra asks Aqua to pose under the arbor so he can take a picture of the trees and the flowers surrounding her. Beautiful.
âHow do we do this?â Terra asks when he finds his voice again, still trembling. Aqua stands to the side to take her place. Sheâs beautiful.
Ven takes the book in his hands. The description of this ritual covers at most two pages. âWell, itâs archaic. Itâs from the Age of Fairytales but it sounds like we will intertwine your heartsâbut in an intense way, like weâre sewing them together.â
Aqua holds her bouquet to her chest. âShall we start?â
Terra chuckles too hard, gasping for breath. âSimple as that.â
They wait for Venâs cue, who also has no idea how to do anything. Ven clears his throat, shrugs his shoulders, and reads:
âWe witness today the soldering of two hearts. To intertwine like the roots of a tree, the severance painful, the nourishment plentiful. A physical bond, a magical one, the merging of two sprites under the guidance of one truth. Two hearts, but one.â Terra watches the way Aqua watches him. Thereâs no one else in the world, Venâs voice disconnected, like it floats on air. âNow it says to summon your Keyblades. Dig the tips into the ground, and offer your hilts to each other.â
Ends of the Earth is massive, taller than Ven. Stormfall looks delicate but itâs menacing, sharp, direct. They offer their hilts, the shafts crossed over each other, Stormfall light and airy in his hand, Ends of the Earth weighty and thick in hers.Â
Terra finds it interesting that theyâre using the hilt to connect each otherâs heartsâthe Keyblade should never be used against a personâs heart in traditional Mastery, because itâs such a dangerous weapon and itâs so violating. The blunt hilt, on the other hand, the physical manifestation of their hearts, is like exposure, an offer of vulnerability.Â
Aquaâs feels like itâs thrumming, singing. Sheâs happy.
Ven steps forward with the rope and ties it over the hilts in loops. âThis is just an image, the ties that bind, two Keyblades, but one. To intertwine a heart is to forge a chain, a friend, a companion, a memory. If missing then a void, a dream, a wish until reunion.â He steps back into position. âBefore we go on, I think this would be a nice place to say your vows. Terra, you first.â
Terra stammers, looking into her eyes. âI-I couldnât write one. Iâm sorry.âÂ
âItâs okay,â Ven whispers, pulling a piece of paper out of his pocket. âI wrote some just in case.â
Terra doesnât take it. He licks his lips. âIt wouldnât have been graceful. None of itâall of my thoughtsâpale in comparison to you, Aqua.â He steadies himself with labored breathing, the squeeze on her Keyblade like a hold on her waist. âYouâre so, so beautiful, and Iâve spent my days believing I donât deserve you, because⊠because I couldnât make things right like I should have.âÂ
Aqua quivers, gently touching his arm with her free hand and motioning for him to breathe.Â
He continues, âIâm sorry. I wish the Master was here. I wish I was smart enough to prevent it from happening.â He inhales, choking up from the mention of Eraqus. âI never thought you would marry me of all people, so⊠I promise... I will be there every step of the way. I promise you, if youâre scared at night, Iâll be there to protect you. If youâre hurting in another world, Iâll come find you. If youâre confused, Iâll hold you close and help you make sense of it. Iâll brew you tea to help you sleep, Iâll step in the line of fire even if you wish to do the same for me, Iâll walk to the ends of the earth to make sure you are safe and healthy. I promise Iâll be with you.
âAnd Iâll mess up. I know me. Iâll fix it. If you want to clobber me, Iâll be patient. Iâll learn. Iâll do better. Every day you save me from myself. This is the least I can do. Iâve loved you since I was a kid. Iâll love you every day.â
Silence falls on all of them, Terra sniffing just to get some fresh air, Ven wiping his eyes, Aqua blinking too much.Â
âNow you, Aqua,â Ven says.Â
Despite being teared up, Aqua holds it together. Sheâs so good at that.
âTerra, I stand with you because I do want to be here. I do want to be by your side. I do want to laugh at your bad jokes.â She relieves a giggle. âI love you. I have for as long as I can remember, even if I didnât know the words for it.â She studies his face. âIâm sure the Master is here with us, and he couldnât be prouder of you. Iâm proud of you.â Suddenly, she switches her tone, as if to lecture. âAnd if you even fathom taking a hit for me, remember that Iâm faster than you. Iâll protect you first.â Then she softens. âI promise to be your shelter when the storm falls on us. I promise to sit on your bedside when youâre sick, to lift you up when youâre down about yourself, because you are sometimes.Â
âYou are my home, no matter how far your heart is from me. If you need a star to light your way back, Iâll give it to you.â She smiles widely, like sheâs about to laugh. âIf something between us breaks, Iâll mend it with you. I canât imagine my life any other way.â
Their words are now spoken. Aqua suppresses a laugh and grins like a child. Terra holds his breath, just in case he screams from every emotion that he canât name. Â
âWell,â Ven says, rolling his sleeve up so he could wipe his nose on his forearm. âI guess itâs time. This bond is an oath you will remember each other until you close your eyes for the last time, for the tragedy to forget is to be alone forever. Do you accept this?â
âI do,â Terra says.
Aqua hums. âYes, I do.â
Ven smiles. âYou know what to do.â
With his free hand, Terra presses two fingers to his chest, over his heart, where he builds a golden glow. Twenty years living with her, ten years in darkness thinking about her, this vow is impossible to breakâeven if they canât do this any longer, Terra could never forget her. Never. In his hand is now a piece of himself, a nugget of his heart, a memory of her in his bed that he never wants to lose.
He takes those fingers to her chest, two thick golden threads drawn out from his heart. She winces at the touch, quick to dissolve. Stormfall shifts in his hand, growing longer, its hilt thicker and darker, wrapping around like a weaved shield. A subtle change, a little piece of him.
Aqua does the same, fingers to her chest first to create the threads, bringing them to his chest. It does hurt, like a needle digging into his skin, sharp for the entire length until itâs suddenly gone.Â
He feels full, as though his insides are creating space for something extra. Warm, frightening, whole, exciting. Her piece is a memory he canât read but he doesnât need to. Ends of the Earth opens way for an icy blade to cut through the middle as the hilt fans out like wings. A piece of her to take with him where he goes.
âAlright,â Ven chirps, snapping the booklet closed. âThe book ends with the quote, Two hearts, only one, but I think this means I can call you husband and wife in secret. So kiss.â
Their Keyblades dissipate when they hold each other, tender but with appetite, unaware of their surroundings for several selfish moments. With sewn threads, itâs as though he breathes through her. Terra presses her onto him, feeling how her heart now beats in sync with his.
âI love you,â she whispers. They are married.Â
Heâll never tire of hearing it. Stars, they are married. âI love you, too.â
Terra hears Ven sniff before a handkerchief is shoved into his face. âYou need your face dry and clean before everyone sees you,â Ven says.Â
The sunset now is deep, a fiery orange. Terra doesnât want to let go.
âIâll hold you again tonight,â Aqua says, patting his chest. âI want to see the meteor shower Ven promised.â
âItâll be a good one,â Ven assures.
Terra kisses her. âThen we have to make a run for it.â He picks Ven up like a log, jogging through the thicket of the forest with Aqua close behind him, the Master in her arms. When they approach the castle, in the twilight, they hear chatter coming from the halls, as though ghosts are partying outside.Â
Terra feels at peace despite that he now has to perform, balancing on a tightrope where he doesnât care if he falls. He turns around and holds her neck to kiss her again, feeling her laughter in his mouth. âOne more?â he asks when they break.Â
Ven, still tucked in Terraâs arm, groans. âI never asked for a front seat to the kissing show. Is this my punishment?â
Aqua kisses him one more time, whispering to him I love you for what will be a string of I love youâs in the night to come. Friends will cheer, Terra will trip on the way to the altar, Sora will cry because Terra will cry, Xion will eat too much cake and get sick, Isa will laugh because he is drunk, Kairi will be the star of the dance, Aqua will be the star in his eyes.Â

Oh boi, this will be a long post
Yashahime will probably need a second season
I know some of you will disagree since apparently most of the fandom hates the sequel and want it to end before the Inuyasha series get damaged just like it happened to Naruto with Boruto, but I think it would be worse if they either just ignored half of the plotlines/ideas/mysteries that they established (in just the first 9 episodes) or just rush them in an unnatural way in the 15/14 episodes that are left when Inuyasha almost never did that.
Like, in the beginning (before the episodes started airing) I thought that 24 episodes were perfect with the simple premise that they gave us. Towa would just meet her sister with amnesia and travel between both worlds with her and her cousin (Moroha) to regain her memories, some episodes would be the girls bonding, others roughly explaining the pearls with the theory of everyone being trapped there, defeat whatever villain appeared (probably something related to Naraku), and everyone back together with their families, DONE.
But NAH, apparently thing are MUCH MORE complicated starting with the fact that at this point the main theory of everyone sealed inside the pearls it's honestly destroyed, without even mentioning their apparent intentions to get into some of the world's lore that Inuyasha never got into.
So if you think I'm exaggerating, I did a list of all the plotlines/mysteries/ideas that I've seen so far and some things that I think would be logic to include.
The rainbow pearls: Again, at this point I think the theory we all had about them is basically destroyed and apparently they play a big role in the story.
Demons monarchy thing lore: All the Inu no Taisho and Kirinmaru stuff, and the girls being constantly called princesses.
All the time travel stuff: Like that's supposedly the main conflict (the bad guy's plan).
The dream butterfly: Specially with the latest information given of being multiple of them all around the land.
Setsuna's lost memories
Sesshomaru's courage trial
Sesshomaru's plan: At this point it's pretty obvious that he's involved in some sort of plan with Kirinmaru or against him.
The disappearance of the original cast
The twin's mom: (I honestly wouldn't mind if they didn't answer this one, I'm not involved in the ship wars but I guess people are curious about this one ;-;)
Moroha's spiritual powers: To begin with, her being a demon and having this abilities was supposedly impossible with the "laws" established in Inuyasha, but also they made quite emphasis on this in certain episodes, so I guess this will be important...?
Moroha and her similar blood to Inu no Taisho: Same as the other point, I like to think they just didn't randomly mentioned it and will actually be relevant.
Moroha: Just everything, every single thing about her is a whole big mystery àČ _ÊàČ
Riku: Same as Moroha, what the hell is going on with him? What even is he?
Jyubei and his bounty hunting business
Kirinmaru and his whole relationship with Towa's teacher: Why does he know english?
Miroku's appearances: Where is your waifu? Where are you kids? Do you even remember you have a family? Why are you recommending random girls to kill their family? Are you Hachi?
Hachi
MirSan family: Why is Hisui separated from them? Where are the twins? Sango???
Treekyo/The tree of ages: Even if you believe in the "Treekyo is the main villain" theory or not, it still plays an important role with Rin being trapped inside it.
The twins having pearls inside of their eyes
Inukag + Moroha bonding time: At first when I thought they were separated when Moroha was like 4/5 years old, I would have been satisfied with a couple of scenes together and let the fandom do the rest with fanfics or fanarts, but now knowing they literally just missed Moroha's whole life, they better give us a whole relationship development of Moroha getting used to a family and Inukag getting to know more about their daughter or I'll hit someone with a stick
Sesshomaru and twins' bonding time: Literally the same as with Inukag.
Demon Slayer: come on guys, you included them in the opening, you even realised merchandising about them, you just can't make them irrelevant.
Moroha's debt: Oh look, another Moroha mystery
Plot twist villain: I mean, if there is one
The twins' decision: Will both of them go back to the modern era? Will both prefer to stay in the feudal times? Or will they be separated again?
Towa's demonic energy thing
Who raised Moroha and how did she ended up alone: WHY ARE THERE SO MANY MYSTERIES ABOUT MOROHA????
The girls' weapons: I mean Setsuna and Moroha's
I did my best to remember more mysteries about the twins but I just remembered Moroha's, so I'm sorry ;-;
Basically those are all the mysteries/plotlines/ideas that I could remember.
So let's be honest with ourselves and, do you honestly think ALL of this could be decently worked in the 14/15 episodes that we have left?
But most importantly, would you want them to be decently worked or would you prefer them to be ignored and this thing to be over soon?
Idk, I personally would like to give them an opportunity to be better developed in another season, but that's just my opinion ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ
Sorry for such a long post ;-;

[Kingdom Hearts] Old Habits, New Reasons
Summary: Three times in which Namine shies away from social functions just to draw, and the one time someone joined her. [oneshot][character study][NamiXi if you really wanna squint][also Namiku if you squint a little less]
Rating: K
Word Count: 3,469 words
If you liked this story, please reblog!
---
Their question had thrown Namine off slightly. She sheepishly looked down at her small sketchbook as if it could answer the question for her. The white page stared back at her in silence.
A part of Namine knew this would happen eventually. There was always that fear that someone would follow her, ask her what she was doing, and then tell her to rejoin the others. But that wasn't what they were asking, was it? They wanted to know why she was drawing. It was a simple question, and it was a bit odd that someone would have lugged a caboodle of art supplies with them to a banquet.
"Well?" the other girl asked. "Is there someone who would get mad you're drawing, even if you did it around your friends?"
"I don't think so." Namine decided, slowly. "But sometimes... it's just easier to draw without other people around you. And sometimes, when people find out that you're good at something, they make you do that something for them. It's not very fun."
"Do you always leave to draw, though?"
At first, Namine wanted to disagree with all her heart. But in introspection, it was more of a vice than she cared to admit. She loved drawing, but didn't like others watching her as she did it. When did that happen, she wondered. That didn't used to be the case...
"Sometimes." Namine finally said. She held her sketchbook a bit tighter before adding, "But only on certain occasions."
"Like?"
Namine looked over at the other girl with curiosity. She was greeted with a look just as inquisitive as her own. Maybe even more so. There was a genuine interest; that much was certain. Maybe there was a budding artist in their midst?
"Well..." she carefully said, moving her sketchbook a bit to flip through the earlier pages, "There was this one time..."
. . .
It was a small comfort that, while she wasn't a Keyblade wielder herself, the others considered her when they all got together. She still made sure that her presence didn't disturb anyone. Being quiet and observant was Namine's most reliable vice. That, and drawing. There wasn't much else she knew how to do. Her time as a Nobody barely ranged a year, and after that she was placed safely inside Kairi's heart until recently. Being a Somebody was... confusing, to say the least.
Being asked to join in on a slumber party with Kairi and Xion had been a surprise- perhaps even more so because Master Aqua herself gave her the invitation. Namine certainly didn't expect it to take place in the Land of Departure either. The world seemed far too grand to her -far too important in the history of Keyblade wielders- that it could be used for anything beyond a training arena. She was proven wrong after entering the Great Hall with Kairi. Aqua had given them a spot in front of the thrones, already decorated with sleeping bags for all four of them and a small assortment of snacks.
"I've never got to have a proper slumber party before, since it was me and Terra for most of our childhoods." Aqua admitted at some point. "Feels weird having one with you guys now. I feel like a mom."
It was Xion who, without skipping a beat, cheerfully declared, "And you're the best one I'll never have!"
"Xion!" both Aqua and Kairi declared, each with their own level of bewilderment. Namine only offered a stifled laugh. So proud at their reactions, Xion gave them all a smile so big, it almost rivaled Sora's.
After that, they started to talk about various things since they all met together. Apparently everyone's training was going rather well. Kairi was beginning to get a handle of second tier elemental magic, while Xion was working on personal techniques on and off for the past week. It was around this time that Namine politely excused herself from the others. They had been so caught up in their conversation that they didn't even notice.
Namine went to where she and Kairi had placed their personal things to find her caboodle. The caboodle was a neat little box with drawers that opened the same time she opened the lid. She was able to put all her art supplies in it. Most of them, anyway- her normal sketchbook was too large to fit. Instead, she used a smaller pad that was placed where the mirror in the caboodle was. Once Namine made sure she had everything, she carefully found a spot far enough away from the others so she could draw them. It honestly wasn't very far, but it was still far enough away that the other three didn't really notice her. That was fine. If anything, it was perfect.
The sounds of the others almost masked the sound of her pencil against paper. Spending most of her life locked away with nothing but drawing to distract her gave Namine a slight skill in speed drawing. However, she took her time when she started to work on her friends. She wanted as much detail as she could.
But she didn't bother to sketch her own sleeping bag. She tried to tell herself that it was because it ruined the composition. But deep down she knew it was because she didn't fit with the others, and so it didn't need to be included.
Namine finished her drawing without the others ever knowing she was gone. She placed everything back in her caboodle, then went back as Kairi went into a long story about Tidus and Wakka back on the islands. It was nice; the sounds of friendship. Namine had been the first to go to sleep that night.
. . .
At first, the only response she got was a quiet, "Oh..."
"It was a really fun time!" Namine quickly insisted. "And it really was a treat to be included."
"But you drew yourself out."
Namine flinched slightly. "It worked out better that way. From the angle I was at, it would have looked weird because I had the really light sleeping bag, and everything was so dark anyway..."
The other girl only looked more guilty.
"Do you still have the picture?" she wondered.
"I think so." Namine agreed. She adjusted herself so she could better go through her sketchbook before flipping through the earlier pages. "Here," she then offered as she handed it over.
There was a small hum as the other ran her fingers over the drawing. Namine had made deliberate choices in lighting around the three Keyblade wielders- light coming off of them as if they were lighting up the whole room. If you looked ever closer, you could see the detail of the castle's floor, and even make out the silhouettes of the three thrones in the background.
"Does anyone know that you go somewhere away from everyone to draw?" the other girl asked, handing the sketchbook back to Namine.
Namine gave a fond, almost bashful smile.
"There is someone..."
. . .
"There's a lot of people here." Namine noted as she tried to look over the crowd. Riku wasn't making the same amount of effort. Instead, he just casually looked on with a hand at his hip. Curse him being a full head taller than she was.
"Aqua said that Disney Town holds the Dream Festival every year." Riku agreed with a small nod. "Can't be that easy since Queen Minnie has almost been reigning the kingdom alone for the past few years. The effort is definitely amazing though."
Namine agreed with a nod and a small noise of affirmation. Disney Town looked absolutely splendid for the festival. All the colors, and the smells, and the energy was enough to put anyone in a good mood. The grip Namine had on her caboodle tightened slightly. A frown crossed her lips as she considered that there might have been too much commotion. There wasn't a good place to just sit and zone out without some kind of noise maker going off.
Riku must have noticed this. He looked over at her, and quickly saw her firm grip on the caboodle's handle.
"Are you sure you don't want to leave that in the Gummi Ship?" he asked. He even made a mild gesture to the box, which only made Namine hold it closer to her.
"No. I'm going to use it." Namine insisted. "I just... I just need someplace a bit more quiet..."
Riku nodded. He looked up again to see that Queen Minnie had taken the stage. The queen looked as beautiful as always in her formal pink and red ballgown. The jewels on her crown glittered under the multicolored overhead lights. Everyone cheered at seeing her- the love and admiration they had for their leader was enough to be felt from miles away. Minnie was a good queen, there was no contest about that.
As Minnie tried to settle the crowd down so she could speak, Riku bent down a bit to quietly tell Namine something.
"There's a sewage grate somewhere behind us. If you take it, there's a gizmo that will lead you up to one of the buildings overlooking the racetrack. Don't know about you, but a good aerial shot might be something to capture for later."
Namine grinned. "Thank you Riku." she said before giving him a small peck on his cheek. The young Keyblade master's face gleamed with a humble blush as he stood tall again, almost as if he had never moved at all. Namine laughed a bit at it before leaving.
Finding, and getting into, the grate had not been an issue. It did take her awhile to navigate the gizmo, though. But it was all worth it once she got to the top of a particular building. Namine let out a soft 'Oh...' of wonder as she sat down near the edge facing the racetrack. Riku was right- this was a good place to work. If only she was able to use larger sketch paper in her travelling kit.
When she was finished, Namine very quickly tried to find Riku again. She shouted his name after spotting him. He barely had time to turn around before she proudly displayed her new drawing to him.
"Do you think Queen Minnie will like it?" she asked, rather breathlessly.
Riku looked at her before looking down at the drawing. He put on a wide smile before telling her, "She's going to love it. It's perfect."
. . .
That story had brought about a rather brighter mood in the other girl.
"Did Queen Minnie like the drawing?" she asked. "You did give it to her after the festival, right?"
A sense of pride welled in Namine's heart, leading her to sit a bit straighter. "She loved it." she grinned. "She immediately had the brooms take it to the gallery to be expanded and mounted. You should have seen the look on Riku's face. He was as proud as I was, and probably more surprised!"
"I could only imagine." the other girl laughed. "Oh!" she then said, "Have you ever gone someplace with a view so nice that you just couldn't replicate it no matter how hard you tried? It's hard to recreate any atmosphere, in my opinion. I wanna know if you ever tried to as well."
Namine let out a soft hum as she thought about it. She let out a small noise of realization when it came to her.
"I did once before, yes." she agreed. "Since Kairi's parents don't mind me staying with them, I was able to join her, Riku, Wakka, Tidus, and Selphie to a beach party they had. It was still summer vacation, if I remember correctly. And Tidus really wanted to have a girls versus boys match..."
. . .
"Head's up!" Tidus shouted before serving the volleyball over the net.
"Cheater!" Selphie shouted back as Kairi managed to spike the ball back. Tidus only gave a rather sinister cackle back. However, at that point, no one was able to break their concentration just to smack talk each other.
Namine watched as Kairi and Selphie worked against Tidus and Riku in a rather well matched volleyball tourney. Wakka wasn't too far away- he had lost a bet earlier and had to make food for everyone. The smell of pineapples and fish hung in the air. It was the warmth of the midday sun that Namine loved the most. The feeling enveloped its way around her like a comforting hug. She let out a soft sigh as she got a bit more comfortable.
The sudden urge to draw made her fingers twitch.
This wasn't a good spot for it, though. She was too close to the others for anything but sand to get onto the paper than color. As much as she loved watching the volleyball match, it was still a bit too distracting. Namine started to get up and casually looked around for a better spot to draw. It didn't take long for her eyes to train to a crow's nest not far from the shore. It was part of a large treehouse that seemed to encompass the island. She looked back at her friends for a moment before quietly leaving them. If anyone noticed she was going, they certainly didn't question her about it.
After getting herself situated at the higher point, Namine found herself gaping at the scene below her. Her friends happily playing on the beach, the light reflections off the water, and even the island holding the paopu tree providing a view so beautiful, so rich, that she wasn't even aware that she was opening her caboodle at first. Seeing the Destiny Islands through Sora's heart was nothing compared to the real thing. Was it possible just to freeze time here and let everything else wash away? She smiled a bit to herself. She did have a way to freeze time, in a way.
The only unfortunate thing was that she wouldn't be able to capture it all. She couldn't encapsulate the smell of the sea, or the sounds of Tidus demanding the girls had leverage over him for some reason. She gave a small smile as she continued to work. Most of her effort was spent trying to reflect the sea around them. A certain impatience came over her as she carefully did each detail. You always had to start with the big stuff, then go down smaller. She was just so eager to capture this moment, anyway she could, that she was always picturing this drawing when it was done.
Namine had to force herself to stop after an hour. Her hands were starting to hurt, and her stomach was growling for food. She cracked her knuckles, barely relieving the tension in them, before putting her stuff away. There would always be time to clean the picture up later. For now, she needed to rejoin her friends.
. . .
And so, we were brought back to our initial setting- the banquet in Radiant Garden.
Namine had thought at first that this would be the perfect opportunity to work on drawing food. But the actual banquet itself had a lot more activity than she was anticipating. There were too many people at the tables to have space to stand at for a few minutes, and she had tried to get a plate for herself to take elsewhere- the allure of delectable aromas wouldn't let her go far without wolfing everything down. So she decided to get a higher view.
To her luck, there was a balcony overlooking the main area. It wasn't blocked off or anything, so Namine quietly crept her way to the top. She found a place to carefully overlook the area and found herself at awe. Even if she was aware that someone was behind her, she probably wouldn't have known it at first.
"Namine!" a voice suddenly said in surprise. Namine jumped a good foot before turning her attention to the newcomer. She relaxed a little when she found it was just Xion.
"Xion..." the blonde girl sighed. "It's just you."
"Am I interrupting you? I'm sorry. I'm not interested in food, and the boys are really going at it, so I really wanted to do this writing exercise where you describe an atmosphere, and..."
"No, no, no. You're fine." Namine insisted. She moved her stuff a bit before gesturing for Xion to sit down next to her. "Here," she offered, "Sit next to me. The view is nice from this area."
Xion smiled in thanks before carefully sitting down. She looked out over the balcony and gasped.
"You're right, this is a good view!" Xion marveled. Her eyes expanding in wonder. "This is the perfect place for Ebba to plant a listening device onto an enemy!"
"Ebba?" Namine wondered. "Who's Ebba?"
At Namine's confusion, Xion's face lit up in a deep scarlet.
"She's my... I think Pence called it 'self-insert.' It's a character that's based on me, but sometimes has a few differences. I've based most of the stories I write on stuff I did in the Organization. It's helped a lot with trying to cope with it. You know?"
Namine shrunk a little. "Yeah..." she agreed in a tiny voice.
"But it's real fun too!" Xion told her, trying to divert the heavy topic a bit. "I base everyone in story with someone in real life! You should see the guy I based on Xemnas... I do a lot of mean things to him."
Namine let out a small chuckle. But then a thought occurred to her.
"You based the characters in your story on us?"
"Of course I did!" she happily declared, her blush growing a bit, besides. "Roxas is Lucas, Master Aqua is head knight Meikai, I even have Pluto as the brave pup Mercury!"
"Do... Do you have someone based on me?"
Xion paused for a moment. Her face going still. However, just as quickly, her smile came back as wide as ever.
"Not yet, but I can!" she decided. She hummed a bit as she thought it over some more. "But I don't have to if you don't want to. I think I'll call her... Syrena."
"Syrena..." Namine hummed in thought. She then gave a bright smile in appreciation. "I like it."
"Great!" Xion beamed. She let out a rather contented sigh before asking, "What about you? Why did you come here?" She looked down at Namine's sketchpad and art supplies for a moment then added, "Did you come all this way just to draw?"
After some hesitation, Namine told her. Carefully, and in her own time. Xion listened intently- only asking questions when Namine was done relating a certain day. When the subject came back around to where they were, Xion seemed to understand much better.
"I get it now." she said.
"You do?" Namine wondered.
Xion gave a thoughtful little nod before explaining, "It's easier for you to draw when it's more quiet. That was how it was before. I think it's great that you're still drawing, even though you started because you were held hostage by the Organization. But the Organization didn't give you the skill you have, Namine. Thatâs all your own. Kinda like how writing is my special thing. We have ways to just... be ourselves, you know? It's comforting. It's like knowing that, even though we didn't start out in this world with our own goals or ideals, we can make them on our own now. We're free now, Namine. Free to do whatever we want."
Namine absently hugged her sketchbook. "I like that thought." she admitted. "I never really saw it that way before, either. Drawing is something that I know I can do. Something that won't harm others. But you are right- it's what makes me... me. Thank you."
Xion grinned. A wide, bright grin that could have lit up a room. It gave Namine an idea.
"What does Ebba look like?" she questioned, at the same time she pulled out one of her sketching pencils. "Does she look just like you, or are there a lot of differences?"
There was a moment of confusion on Xion's face, then a bright flicker of joy. Not a second after, she burst into a long babble about her character. She even used her arms to illustrate certain concepts and mannerisms. Namine laughed, and did her best to keep up. Xion was so passionate about her characters- it almost made Namine jealous. For the next few hours, Namine did a blend of Xion's idea for Ebba, while Xion herself got to writing about how Ebba got to meet a new acquaintance; a mysterious girl named Syrena, who -while mostly shy- was very well loved.

KH Comm # 3
Another writing comm! This one's for @rosie-drawss, who wanted a continuation of the Keys comm I did for them last time around (in which, tldr, Riku finds Sora and convinces him to come home early). You can read that right here if you're interested in getting a bit of background before diving into this one. Anyway enjoy this big ol bundle of hurt/comfort!
***
The Gummi Ship isnât parked that far away. Yet despite keeping up a steady pace so far, as soon as he sees its familiar red and yellow hull, Sora slows to a stop, something that Riku notices almost immediately. He stops, turning back to check on him, only for Sora to surprisingly tell him whatâs wrong, this time completely unprompted.
âI-I⊠I donât think Iâm ready for this,â he quietly admits, wrapping his arms around himself. âI lied to them and ran from them for so long, Riku, I donât even know what Iâm supposed to say to any of them now, much less to Donald, or Goofy, or Kairi-â
âYou donât have to say anything, if you donât want to,â Riku reassures him. He steps back over to him, gently taking one of his hands in his. After so many weeks on his own, Soraâs gotten used to living without much physical contact from others; but that doesnât mean he hasnât missed it, that he doesnât selfishly cherish every second of it heâs getting now. âThey all know, and they understand. And trust me when I tell you the only thing any of them wants, especially Kairi, is to see you come home safe and sound.â
âT-theyâre not mad?â Sora asks, still uncertain.
âAt you? No,â Riku shakes his head. His expression darkens a bit as he brushes a few of Soraâs now-white bangs out of his newly golden eyes. âAt the one whoâs doing all this to you? Well, letâs just say that if it's a war Xehanort wants, it's a war heâs going to get if thatâs what it takes to set you free.â
Sora wants to argue at this, wants to insist that no one else should have to fight this battle for him, that heâs not even worth such a battle to begin with. But heâs far too tired to put up that kind of fight now, not when he knows itâll do nothing to change Rikuâs mind or anyone elseâs for that matter.
So instead, he lets Riku take his hand, lets him lead him onward, lets him guide him to one of the vacant chairs in the shipâs cockpit. Surprisingly, they donât lift off right away; instead, Riku briefly heads below deck before returning with a blanket and a small meal composed of a sandwich, an apple, and a water bottle.
âItâs gonna be a long ride back to the tower,â Riku says as he hands all those items over to Sora. âMight as well get comfortable.â He pauses, his face suddenly warm with embarrassment when he sees Sora staring at the meager portion of food sitting in his lap with a look of sheer disbelief. âUh⊠sorry, itâs not much,â he clears his throat, glancing away. âItâs been a few days since I last stocked up on supplies and I, um, heard that if youâve gone without food for awhile, itâs best not to go overboard with your first meal, so-â
âYouâre kidding, right?â Sora cuts in, looking up at him with a grateful, incredulous smile. âThis is more food than Iâve had in weeks, I-â He stops short when he notices Rikuâs immediate alarm upon hearing something like this and as a result, he immediately backpedals on it. âI, uh⊠t-thank you,â his tone turns soft again, small, but heâs still smiling as he takes his first bite out of the sandwich.
â...Why havenât you been eating?â Riku asks him, kneeling down beside his chair.
âCouldnât afford to,â Sora admits somewhat sheepishly. âI donât have any money, and⊠well, I found out pretty quickly that most people arenât willing to give things out for freeâŠâ
Riku sighs, wishing that heâd found Sora so much sooner, wishing that he hadnât had to struggle to simply survive for so long. âYou havenât been sleeping much either, have you?â he asks, noting the dark bags under his eyes.
Sora hesitantly shakes his head as he finishes the sandwich up just shy of starting on the apple. âI canâtâŠâ he mutters tiredly.
âWhy not?â
âNightmaresâŠâ is all Sora says, and Riku immediately understands.
He stands, grabbing the blanket and lightly draping it over Sora as soon as he finishes off his small meal. âGet some sleep,â he instructs patiently. âYou wonât have any more nightmares, not as long as youâre with me. I promise.â
Sora wants to question that promise, but heâs overtaken by an exhausted yawn instead. With even just a little food finally in his stomach, his eyes soon start to grow heavy, and before the ship is even off the ground, heâs fallen into a stupor. As he prepares for takeoff, Riku can sense the nightmares starting to assail him, can hear his soft, nervous whimpers piercing through the peace of the cockpit. But heâs having none of it. He closes his eyes, takes in a steady breath, and focuses his power into chasing those nightmares away before they can cause him any harm. The terrors Xehanort is trying to force upon him are unspeakable, vile visions of everything Soraâs come to fear and hate. Even the brief glimpses he gets before he destroys them from existence are enough to shake Riku to his very core, to get even just a small taste of the torture Soraâs been forced to go through, torture heâs done not a single thing to deserve in the slightest. And yet, for as much as it all horrifies him, it does something else too; it makes Riku want to put the twisted man responsible for it all through every bit of suffering heâs been shoving onto Sora. He wonât rest until he does.
Riku feels some measure of relief when he finally feels Sora fully fall asleep just as the shipâs engines quietly roar to life. He pulls the vessel into motion, gentle enough as to not wake him, and slowly guides it up into the atmosphere, out of a world in which, up until a few hours prior, Sora had been all but hopelessly lost within. As soon as the ship is steadily adrift between the stars, Riku briefly checks on him, unable to suppress a smile when he sees him curled up him his seat, his blanket tightly wrapped around him as he sleeps soundly, likely for the first time in a very long time.
That smile soon fades, however, when he pulls his Gummiphone out. He hasnât spoken to any of the other lights in quite awhile, not since his search for Sora began. As their leader, he knows heâll have a lot to answer for the impulsive haste of that search, and heâll have much to say heâs sorry for, to Kairi above all the others. But now, heâs finally ready to face them, finally ready to return to them. Finally ready to bring the only one still missing among their number back to where he belongs.
He decides to message Kairi, knowing thereâs too much to explain and that none of it should be done over the phone. Besides, he doesnât want to risk waking Sora up with what would likely be a very emotional, very noisy call. So he sends something short off to her, a simple request without much elaboration at all. Mostly because he has a feeling sheâll understand exactly what he means.
âIâm sorry about what happened before, but I need a favor. Go to the islands and bring Himari back to the tower, please. And tell the others to get a room ready. I have him. Weâre coming home.â
***
Soraâs still sleeping when they arrive at the tower. Riku doesnât have the heart to rouse him, not when sleep is something he so sorely, visibly needs. So he decides to carry him, carefully lifting him from his seat with his blanket still draped over him. His heart flutters in his chest, his face warm as he secures Sora comfortably in his arms. Heâs light, far lighter than he should be, likely because of his longstanding starvation, and as a result, he feels fragile, like he could break at any moment if not treated with the utmost care and caution. But even then, Riku isnât so sure he hasnât already been broken by fear, by pain, by loneliness, by so many other things he canât even bring himself to think about.
He isnât surprised to see Kairi pacing around right outside the tower, her expression torn between deep worry and rising hope. Sheâs the only one out there, and heâs glad for it; the last thing Sora needs is to be overwhelmed by too many people at once upon arrival.
âRiku!â she cries, running over to him the second she spots him. Heâs quick to shush her as Sora lightly stirs in his arms, and she complies, her eyes wide when she sees him, a soft gasp escaping her when she takes in just how much heâs managed to change. âS-SoraâŠâ she swallows hard, trying to fight back tears and failing miserably. âI-is⊠is he-â
âHeâs just sleeping,â Riku assures her. âHe⊠hasnât been doing too well out on his ownâŠâ
âI can tellâŠâ Kairi shudders, wiping a few of her stray tears away. She places a feather-light hand against the side of his face, whispering softly to him as he sleeps. âI canât imagine what youâve been going through⊠But itâs all gonna be ok now. Youâre here, and so is everyone else. And weâre all gonna do whatever we can to stop this⊠to save youâŠâ
While most of this goes largely unheard, Sora does ease his way back into some small semblance of waking after Kairi leans in to lightly kiss his forehead. His golden gaze is initially unfocused, his mind bleary and disoriented as unused to uninterrupted slumber as heâs come to be. Even so, he eventually manages to focus his sights on the pair hovering over him, all but unaware that heâs resting in the arms of one of them. âMmm⊠Riku?â he says with a small, comforted smile. That comfort quickly shifts into startled alarm when he notices who else is standing alongside him. âK-Kairi! I-â
âShh, itâs ok,â she places a soft finger against his lips, her own smile warm but bittersweet. âIâm so glad to see you, you lazy bum. To see both of youâŠâ She turns her sights back to Riku, who returns her apologetic gaze every bit as intently. Whatever they might have said or done weeks before doesnât matter now, not when they finally have the one who matters most to them both back. Not when he still needs both of them to be there for him so very much.
âWait a secondâŠâ Sora starts, his cheeks flooding red when he tries to sit up, only to realize where heâs lying. Or rather, whoâs arms heâs lying in. âR-Riku! Are you--why are you carrying me?!â
âW-well, you were sleeping,â Riku quickly explains, his own face turning a crimson shade to match Soraâs. âAnd I didnât want to wake you, so I-â
Heâs cut off as Kairi suddenly breaks down into a helpless bout of laughter, one that only serves to fluster both boys even more. âGood to know youâre both just as adorable as ever,â she chuckles, fixing them with a flirtatious smirk.
âAre not!â Sora argues, pouting as Riku carefully sets him down and helps him properly stand.
âI-I donât know what you mean,â Riku refutes, clearing his throat as he looks away.
âSuuuure you donât,â Kairi teases, though her tone takes a more serious turn as she begins leading the way toward the tower. âWell, come on you two. Everyoneâs waiting.â
âE-everyone?â Sora tenses, at least until Rikuâs steadying hand lands on his shoulder.
âItâs ok,â he says solemnly, sincerely. âWeâre with you, no matter what happens.â
The most Sora can do is anxiously nod, knowing that thereâs no going back now, not when heâs already come all this way. They approach the doors together, though they arenât the ones to open them. Donald and Goofy are, and needless to say that as soon as they see Sora, theyâre unable to contain the torrential tide of emotions that rushes to the surface. And neither can Sora himself, for that matter.
The pair pounces upon him, knocking him to the ground as they engulf him in a noisy, tearful hug. Sora struggles to work up the courage to hug them back, terrified of even touching them after how heâd hurt both of them before. That maddening moment seems to be the furthest thing from either of their minds now though, as they fret and fawn over him, as Donald scolds him for worrying them so much, as Goofy tells him how much they both missed him. It all comes out so rapidly that Sora is barely able to get a word in edgewise, not that he can think of much else to say other than sorry. Which he does, over and over and over again.
Roxas, Ventus, and Xion descend upon him next, each of them greeting him in more or less the exact ways he expected them to. Roxas is a mess of relieved anger, hot tears streaming down his cheeks as he yells at Sora for his recklessness, for his foolishness, for being so surprisingly hard to find. Sora doesnât protest any of it, knowing he deserves far worse for what heâs done. But in the end, Roxas finally relents, finally embracing him as Ven and Xion do the same. As all three of the hearts once inside his own vow to do whatever they can to protect him even still, even now that they no longer have to call his heart home.
The others all soon follow, Aqua and Terra and Axel and Mickey and NaminĂ© all warmly welcoming his long-awaited return. He does his best to face each of them in stride, to not fall apart in front of them all. He leans against Riku and Kairi for support, his head spinning as they all ask him an abundance of curious, concerned questions, many of which he has no real answers for. The pair can tell heâs starting to get overwhelmed by it all, and theyâre more than ready to pull him aside for some of the solitude heâs likely much more used to now. But before they can, one voice among the group rises over all the others; a voice that sparks tears in Soraâs eyes the very second he hears her.
âS-SoraâŠ?â
He turns, his heart aching to find her hurrying down the stairs into the foyer. Her eyes are already red from crying, tears already starting in them anew when he steps forward to meet her. He doesnât know what to say, didnât know sheâd be here, never thought she even could be here. But he supposes it only makes sense that theyâd bring her all this way to see him; after all, the world order can afford to be broken just a little if it means reuniting a worried mother with the son sheâs so close to losing.
âMomâŠâ he returns as the entire room falls into solemn silence around them. âI⊠Iâm-â
He doesnât get a chance to finish when Himari throws her arms around him, pulling him close and tight toward her. âI-I⊠t-they just finished telling me whatâs happening to you,â she whispers, running a hand through his whitened hair. âI didnât think this--I⊠I should have never let youâŠâ she breaks off into a mournful sob, holding him even tighter, terrified of what might happen if she lets him go. âIâm so sorry, SoraâŠâ
âNo,â he returns just as quietly, just as sadly as he pulls just a tiny bit away. âDonât be. You have nothing to be sorry for. This isnât your fault.â âItâs mine,â he nearly adds, but narrowly refrains. Even though he knows it's nothing less than the truth.
The round of reunions doesnât continue very long after that. Itâs already quite late, and everyoneâs already very tired, so they decide to take tomorrow to form a more concrete plan of action. For now, everyone turns into their rooms for the night, with even Himari doing the same after spending a bit more time with her son, vowing to stay by his side through the duration of this situation, no matter how uncertain it might be.
Sora finds himself stunned when Riku and Kairi lead him into one of the towerâs spare rooms. He hasnât slept in general for so long, much less in an actual bed. And the mere thought of getting to lie in one now almost seems like a luxury he shouldnât be able to afford, yet here it is, offered freely just like the food heâd gotten earlier, just like the secure shelter now hanging over his head, just like the kind company he still canât believe heâs keeping. Company that heâd been such a stubborn fool for depriving himself of for so very long.
As he climbs under the soft plush covers, heâs just as surprised to find Riku and Kairi climbing under them alongside him. The bed is plenty big enough for all three of them, with still more room to spare, but they pull themselves close along either side of him, each of them loosely draping their arms over him.
âAre you comfortable like this?â Kairi asks him as she reaches over to turn out the light.
âYeahâŠâ he sighs, content as Riku pulls the blanket over him just a bit more. âYou know, Iâve been alone for such a long time now, I-I guess⊠I almost forgot what this felt likeâŠâ
âWhat do you mean?â Riku inquires softly, drowsily.
âI⊠I forgot what it felt like⊠to be safe,â Sora admits, though thatâs not really what he wants to say. Because in truth, what he really forgot, what heâs still trying his hardest to remember is what it feels like to be loved.
Even so, both Riku and Kairi seem to understand what he means without him even needing to say it. A talent both of them have always had, one that heâs always marveled at around every turn. âAnd youâll stay safe, no matter what happens next,â Kairi smiles sweetly, slowly brushing a few stray locks of hair out of his eyes. âThatâs something we wonât let you forget again. We promise.â
âYou saved both of us so many times before, Sora, in so many different ways,â Riku adds, his voice a light, loving whisper leading him back toward slumber. âThis time, let us be the ones to save you, ok?â
Sora has no idea what will happen next, and part of him doesnât want to know either. But what he does know is this: heâs back, heâs here, surrounded by friends and family who are all striving to help him, set his captive heart free. Heâs here, lying in the arms of two people he loves more than anything, more than himself even. Heâs here, and the only thing they want is to save him, to stay with him, to hold onto him and never let him walk alone again. And, after so long of wandering without anyone by his side, without any love or light to guide him out of the dark deceptions heâd fallen into⊠Sora canât help but finally find himself wanting the exact same thing. âOk,â he says softly, a smile on his face as he falls asleep in the same way he fell in love with them so many years ago.
Slowly, and then all at once.

Imagine Roxasâs reaction to seeing Axel shirtless when he started getting buff for the first time
Enjoy the distraction of the evening and Roxas and Sora bonding, and be warned of language and reference to adult situations.
"Can I complain to you about Riku for a second?" Sora asked. It was perhaps not the ideal time to start a new conversation as Roxas was in the process of landing the gummi ship in a clear spot of grass in the courtyard outside the entrance to the keyblade academy at the Land of Departure, but that was how Sora was, keeping things in and then letting them explode forth at times that often seemed odd to others, but were simply the breaking point to him.
"No, I require at least ten minutes of complaining about Riku every week,"Roxas deadpanned, guiding the ship down between two others already parked. "You know the time table. Three minutes without air. Three days without food. Seven days without busting Riku's silver dusted balls."
"Gold," Sora chirped, unbuckling his restraints and going for the door.
"I'm going to regret this," Roxas sighed, half to himself as he followed suit, "But...what?"
"Gold medal," Sora grinned. "Everything in that area is nothing less than first place."Â
"Strongly disagree." Roxas screwed up his face in exaggerated disgust.
"You have no way of..." Sora complained as they started up to the castle.
"Please, can we get to the complaining?" Roxas cut him off.
"It's official even. The council of judges, me and Data Sora judging pictures saved on my gummi phone, awarded him the blue ribbon. I tied it..."Â
"I will give you all the munny in my munny bag not to finish that sentence." It was pretty clear to Roxas that Sora was torturing him on purpose for crimes of his past lives. Sometimes he still hated his other.
"Then I suppose you don't want to hear about the ribbon cutting ceremony either? Or, well, it was more of a ribbon untying ceremony. I'm not usually good at tongue tricks like the cherry thing so I was kind of proud of myself that I managed to..."
The pattern of hasty interruption of an oblivious or happily malicious Sora continued. "For the love of sea salt ice cream, Sora, I'm begging you to stop before I hurl."
"What were you talking about before?" Sora blanked and grasped at straws of stray thought. "Tortillas?"
"What? Why would you think that?"
"It was taco night when I came up with the ribbon ceremony."
"You were going to tell me how much Riku was annoying you."
The enlightened glow of remembrance entered Sora's eyes, but the spark of happiness at conquering his brain only lasted a moment before Sora was collapsing against the doors of the castle academy, playing up the drama of whining, "Riku is driving me crazy!"
"That's more like it! Tell me all about it."Â Roxas was perhaps a bit overzealous in his support, judging by the look Sora shot him, so he tried a more nonchalant and less gleeful tone, "You'll feel better."
"He keeps looking at me like I'm going to disappear in front of his eyes. He's woken me up in the middle of the night to make sure I'm still breathing. He keeps tripping me up in battle because he's started diving between me and the Heartless, like all of a sudden I can't take care of myself. I know why it's happening, and I know he means well, but I'm not sure how much longer I can take it. Do you have that problem with Axel?"
Now, he and Axel had to work through some anxiety about being separated again. It had taken a lot of long talks, time, and trust exercises, to work through them, but now Roxas could help Sora with Riku's issues from the point of view of someone who had been there before and gotten out. Or he could just make a joke. "Well, I'm afraid he'll get caught in a strong wind one night and snap in half, but I'm trying to keep myself rational. I mean I can stick unwound hangers in his clothes to try and create a brace from something more substantial than his limbs, and I can put a bell on him so I don't lose track of him when he turns sideways, but after we take all the precautions we can, all I can do is tell him to be careful lifting his keyblade so it doesn't break his arm, and look at the positive. He and Jack Skellington wear the same size jacket and being able to trade clothes with the King of Halloween is pretty cool."
"What are you talking about?"
Roxas steeled himself to be drawn into a serious talk anyway, taking a spot leaning against the doors alongside Sora and putting a hand on his shoulder, dearly hoping someone didn't open the door from the other side and send them sprawling. "Listen, I picked a ridiculous example, but the same principle applies. Take measures to keep each other safe--simple ones that don't stop you from being able to do your job-- talk about what his fears are, and then just try to find silver linings and agree to live your lives. You guys are going to be okay."
"Oh yeah, I know that,"Â Sora dismissed, shaking off his hand. "I was just letting off steam. Riku's actually being really sweet. I just need to make him realize what he's doing before he finds a way to sacrifice himself again to keep me safe. What you said about Axel doesn't make sense though. He's ripped."
"He's a twig," Roxas countered with a scoff. "He's got the muscle mass of the jelly creature from Monstropolis, and looks like it the time it let me suck it into a large straw to make Boo laugh. I love him but he's a scarecrow. My stickman scarecrow, and I love him, but let's be realistic."
The light of dawning realization lit Sora's eyes once more, and Roxas found it a bit unnerving. He was definitely missing something. "...Haven't you visited Axel since he started training with Terra?"
"No, this is my first visit, to see Terra confer the master title on him." Master ceremonies had become a big thing now, a little pomp and circumstance to make it seem more important, Roxas guessed. Riku had missed out. Too bad for him. "He was on a journey of the soul as well as the body...Whatever that means. Terra didn't want me distracting him."
"That's what makes it more fun. When I went to retake my mark of mastery at Yensid's tower...Wait a second, Terra ordered you to do something and you just listened?" Sora's pursed lips and glaring eyes spoke more of tantrum throwing toddler than betrayed friend.
"He's a master," Roxas answered simply, though it wasn't respect for orders of a master that held him back. He could have been a master too, if he wanted, if he felt like he needed the validation of being recognized by the others and wanted to jump through hoops set up by Yensid or Aqua or even worse options. He had been named master of the keyblade by the Organization, that was enough. He and Axel had agreed they would help guard the worlds but they wouldn't play into the ranking game. Axel had changed his mind, and Roxas respected that, but he felt no compulsion to join him.
"You never listen when Riku tells you to do something. He's a master too."
"Master, my ass."
"No, master of my..."
"Why do you have to be like this?" Roxas groaned, sliding to the ground.
"Don't get pissy just because you haven't gotten laid in months."
"I didn't visit because Axel told me not to. We've been doing the long distance thing. We've done it before for stretches, like when he and Isa were working on their first book,"Roxas answered Sora's original question, loudly, to change the subject.
"But you've talked on the gummi phone?"
"Every night."
"With video?"
"Is this going back to a weird place you never leave?"
"I live in the gutter now!" Sora confirmed happily, before going back to neutral. "No, it's a serious question. Have you gotten a good look at Axel recently?"
"Same loveable bozo sleeping in a fuzzy zip up adult onesie that makes him look like a Meow Wow he's always been. "
"You haven't seen him out of the onesie?" At Roxas's exasperated look, Sora defended himself once more. "Legitimate question."
"Some nights I don't even see him take down the hood. He has a voice for Meowaxel."
"And you were griping about the ribbon ceremony. Your sex story is much weirder."
"We don't have phone sex," Roxas's pining despair outweighed his distaste for discussing this kind of thing with Sora who was a dog that never let go of a bone without making a joke about boning. "We have an agreement. He almost crashed a gummi ship once."
"You...while he was driving?" Sora looked impressed and Roxas felt a rare flash of shame.
"New idea?" He pushed through and said the words as if they were a crack of his own.
"Great idea!" Sora's face split into a wide grin and Roxas apologized to Riku internally, the only way he ever did so. Sora grabbed his former Nobody's arm and dragged him to his feet. "Come on. We're going to spy on Axel sparring with Terra. They have a routine. Terra wouldn't deviate from it even knowing people are arriving for the ceremony tonight."
"I am always down to see my baby light someone on fire," Roxas followed Sora down the hill, pliable and, frankly, excited to see Axel as soon as possible.
"Baby? Blech." Sora pulled a face that lasted maybe half a second and rang false while it did, thrilled and supportive as always to see Roxas showing a soft spot, but attempting to play some of Roxas's own attitude back at him.
"Your pet names for Riku are worse...and you should not prove it by listing them." Roxas tacked on the latter part hastily, leaving no room for Sora to start his reign of terror anew.
" There are several riffs on Dream Eater that would make you wish you were as smart as me," Sora huffed, "But that's not what we're here for." He held Roxas back for a second with a thrown out arm, and glanced around the last bend in the hill. Roxas could hear sounds of exertion. Satisfied with what he saw, Sora withdrew the restraining arm in favor of waving his hands like a cheap magician as he ordered Roxas to, "Feast your eyes!"
Roxas ignored Sora's theatrics and stepped around him, only to stop short when he ended up following the other man's order despite himself. His eyes were feasting and there was an entire buffet in the form of Axel, stripped to the waist and hair up in a messy bun with damp loose tendrils stuck to the back of his neck, twisting away to avoid a strike by Terra (in his weird black spandex shirt like always, showing off for who the hell knew or cared) and using the momentum to whirl the rest of the circle and carry out his own blow, the flex and spring back of newly defined muscles Roxas had missed the development of covered by freckled skin that didn't quite make the definition of tan but had been cultivated into a tone more golden than ghost pale translucent on display. The first dish was broad shoulders that had always been there, but no longer existed just to make clothes hang smoothly like they did on a clothes hanger now that they were attached to the freshly carved meat station--arms that bulged and Roxas was going to declare illegal to ever hide under bunched neon fleece or a thick black coat again. He'd call Axel's new abs the salad bar because he wanted to charge like a bull and then start grazing, but they could also be the drink station because there was definitely a six pack there much more appealing than the beer Hayner had developed a fondness for, and Roxas was remarkably thirsty looking at them. Axel's waist was still comparatively small (Dorito. Delicious. More buffets should include snack food on the side. Jokes weren't over. The man was a snack.) but then there was perhaps the most shocking addition of all had popped into existence below it.
"Bite the buns and have a popsicles for dessert," Roxas whispered under his breath, awed, unable to even be embarrassed by half consciously daydreaming out loud because his eyes had continued their journey and found out there was now meat on the stork (too long to be chicken) drumsticks Axel walked around on.
"Think he's safe from the wind now?" Sora taunted.
"Time for you to leave." Roxas shook himself out of his daze to return fully to the present.
"What?"
"Run up to the castle," Roxas gave the same order in new phrasing as he walked on ahead and waved to Terra, yelling, "Time to leave."
The scene that ensued was bordering on comical as Terra froze, caught off guard and was smacked full in the face with head turning force by the flat of Axel's keyblade, an act that was accompanied by an apologetic, "Oh shit!" and widened eyes that spoke to Axel trying to cut his actions short but being unable to stop the blow, just lessen it. Terra stumbled and Axel reached out to steady him, but then appeared to change his mind or become irrevocably distracted halfway through as Roxas's presence sank in fully. His keyblade disappeared in a shower of sparks, Terra fell, and the lovers ran to be reunited.Â
Roxas found himself lifted off the ground like he weighed nothing and his soul left his body, leaving him not responsible for the happily sighed word that he used to greet Axel, "Arms."

i understand where youâre coming from with that soriku post and kairi, but it feels like youâre completely undermining kairiâs bond with the both of them. a friend or lover does not have to spend time with someone frequently to conserve a strong bond. it doesnât mean that she loves them any less. it doesnât mean her relationship isnât as good as sorikuâs. time does not have any bearing on someoneâs relationship. not to mention thereâs YEARS of off screen interaction between the three of them that we never got to see.
also itâs very common that, even in close relationships, people will feel isolated and alone when apart from their loved ones. iâve had a best friend for over ten years and i still end up feeling like that sometimesâitâs just part of life and human nature.
i know you donât mean your words in a negative sense, but⊠it really sounds like you think kairiâs feelings and relationship with them is lesser. and this is coming from someone who ships soriku but doesnt ship kairi with either boys.
(link to the post in question)
this reply is going to seem disjointed bc i replied to specific points as i went:
iâm not undermining their bond. kh is. (thatâs hyperbole, for the record.) itâs a repeated and repeated theme of kh3 that bonds can weaken. sora, and the audience, are meant to understand that regarding sora, this applies to kairi.
i didnât say people had to spend lots of time with each other to maintain a bond. but they do have to spend at least some time together, in some capacity, in a way thatâs meaningful, to do so. this was also a repeated theme in kh3.
âOne day isnât enough time.â
âOh, thereâs always enough time for hearts to say whatâs true.â
Sora himself is being taught this lesson. What I said was that Kairi and Sora specifically have spent virtually no time together since kh1.
Riku and Kairi have. Relatively little time, but meaningful time nonetheless. In kh2, Riku spent time protecting Kairi. After DDD, Riku brought Kairi to come train with them. In 0.2, Kairi and Riku talked about the ways Riku has changed throughout his journey.
Right after kh2, Kairi brings Sora the letter from Mickey. That letter detailed the events of Recoded, where Sora learned about the people trapped in his heart. He even has a scene specifically apologizing to Kairi for leaving to address this very issue, and that leads directly to DDD. After DDD, Kairi is sent to train with Lea under Merlin before Sora returns, and therefore she and Sora spend a majority of kh3 apart as well. This is why Sora goes to the extra length at the end to spend his last day with her, with purpose: to reform a new connection. Merlin literally says it.
I never said Kairi loves/cares about them less. That logically wouldnât make sense for one of the first sentences of the original post. Why would Kairi miss people she didnât care for/love?
I never said her relationship with sora and riku has less value than sora and rikuâs own. It is literally just /weakening/. It is not /inherently weak/, or gone, or nonexistent. There had to be a pre-existing connection there in the first place for it to weaken. Thatâs logic.
I /did/ say that kairi and riku have spent time together throughout the series. The series being what we /do/ see on screen, starting at kh1. I /did/ say in the very same sentence, that sora and kairi havenât spent much time together at all, especially compared to kairi and riku. I didnât specify that the time frame was the timespan within the games, but I assumed it was understood given the context of the words /right before it/.
I never said Kairi was somehow wrong for missing Sora and Riku. I never said her relationship with them was an outlier in regards to its strength or lack of it. I even went as far as to suggest the reason Sora and Riku feel their togetherness at heart so prominently is because their bond is /especially/ strong, making other bonds between other people look less strong by comparison. Not to mention Sora and Riku actively miss each other when theyâre apart, too. But it has been stated by the developers themselves that the bond between Sora and Rikuâs hearts closes the distance between them, even when theyâre physically apart. And we see that in the games. My point was that Kairiâs own bond with them doesnât quite close the distance to the same extent.
Of course, itâs completely fair for someone to feel that my post was negative. But perhaps it feels that way because when you compare the two relationships side by side, one has evidently weakened more than the other. As is showcased by the games themselves. As was directly stated and addressed in Kh3 itself.
I also failed to mention i have posted several other kairi âessaysâ detailing more of my feelings about kairi and her character in more depth. So this standalone post might read as negative in comparison. I also didnât plan out this post or write every little thought i had. This wasnât meant to be taken as a full fledged essay. I was stating the more obvious details. But again, if you felt it was negative, thatâs fair. Itâs hard to convey feeling when youâre making a list. Let me make one more thing clear: I donât view her bond with them as inherently lesser. Though in regards to the story, itâs definitely less focused on. But Iâve even posted about why i think this is the case, too, already, so iâm not gonna repeat myself. I know this answer might seem cold or rude, but I donât want people getting any funny ideas about me somehow hating Kairi, and coming at me because of it. Recently, I was posting more about Kairi than soriku, and I am not gonna start putting disclaimers in all my posts to pacify others. So iâm letting yâall know now that you can go through my kairi tag and read my feelings about her for yourselves. bc arguably, i donât have to defend or prove anything on my own blog.
#ask#reply#this sounded angry rest assured iâm not trying to come off as aggressive lol?#kairi thoughts#kairi#if anyone doesnât wanna see my posts in the tags the block button exists#sora#riku#my ramblings put to paper#again this sounded aggressive but my blog does have a rant warning AND im trying to out this matter to rest#*put#the main reason iâm even explaining myself to any degree is bc posts CAN be taken out of context#again iâm not tryna demonize kairi im literally just describing her role in the story at this point#<- thatâs a reused tag. iâve used that tag before. i wonder where. i wonder why.#fr everytime i post about kairi im like âpls donât assume i hate kairiâ in the tags#even when itâs a whole essay about how great and valuable i think her character is#the whole point of half my kairi essays is that it is easy to dislike kairi but that i think itâs semi on purpose#and yes i read that the anon ships soriku and whatnot but thatâs the thing our feelings towards characters and opinions outside a ship#doesnât dictate my feelings about said outside characters and opinions#for the third time this sounds angry or rude but well iâm cutting straight to the point.#and yes i acknowledge that anon recognizes that i didnât intend my post in a negative way but regardless iâm laying it out straight.#i like kairi#also i am not a fan of the trend lately on twitter and suchâthat any discussion about kairi immediately falls under suspicion#like bruh let us talk about kairi without stigmatizing discussion of her character.#also if someone hates whatever characterâwho gives a fuck? if theyâre being especially toxic trash on their acc? block.#if theyâre hopping onto other peopleâs posts and into other spheres of the fandom to be toxic and horrible? report.#let people hate characters. no ones obligated to interpret the game like you do and it goes both ways.#just donât attack people over it when they didnât ask#these tags arenât AT @ the anon ok i literally specified i was talking about twitter just clarifying#basically i very much encourage discussion but i wonât discuss this more than once.

See You Soon
~2500 words. Post-Melody of Memory. Contains spoilers. Riku POV, Kairi POV. Introspection and reflection. Implied SoKai. Mostly canon compliant.Â
As the wind whistled past Rikuâs ears and his Station of Awakening came into view, one thought tumbled over and over through his mind:Â
Am I doing the right thing?
He wasnât sure where that had come from. Saving Sora was the right thing to do, no doubt about it. Theyâd searched an entire year and finally had a clue. Of course jumping through the portal was the right thing to do. He had to bring Sora back; he owed it to everyone. To Sora himself, of course, but to all their friends as well. Especially Kairiâ
Kairi. Try as he might, he couldnât get her face out of his head. The disappointment in her eyes when heâd told her she should stay behind.Â
He touched down on the platform that had his likeness etched in stained glass. Not as he was now, but as he was when he began his journey. The moment his heart awakened to the true nature of reality and of the Keyblade. Purple glass surrounded him, and next to him were the faces of friends and important people heâd met on his journeys.Â
Had Kairi gotten to have her awakening yet? Or was sheâ
âI did the right thing,â he said as he paused to get a feel for his surroundings. âThis is what Sora would want. Kairi, safe and sound in the Realm of Light. What would he say if I let anything happen to her, after everything heâs sacrificed for her?â He balled his hand into a fist. âHe trusted me to look out for her, after all. And heâd want me to bring him back to her. Right?â
No one answered him; it was dark and silent here in his heart. Not even Ansem Seeker of Darkness lurked around anymore. His image had melted away from the Station after that final battle in the Keyblade Graveyard.
And yet, a small, nagging voice at the back of his mind wouldnât leave him alone. It pointed out that missing from his reasoning was Kairi herself. What did Kairi want?
âSheâs fine with this,â he said as he paced back and forth. âShe needs more training, she doesnât want to be a burdenââ
He stopped. His feet were near the image of Mickeyâs head, and he sighed deeply.
âI know, I know,â he said, speaking as if his friend was actually here. âIt wasnât my call to make.â
Kairi had quickly masked her true feelings with her usual cheerfulness, but she wasnât fooling anyone. Being left behind again was hardly what sheâd wanted. And yet heâd agreed to leaving her behind because he was in such a rush to save Sora.Â
He rubbed the back of his neck. âItâs a little too late to go back now, huh?âÂ
The Power of Waking was not something he could use lightly. Soraâs disappearance had really driven that lesson home. Doubling back halfway through a dive could be risky. Best to continue on to his destination.
He summoned his Keyblade. It appeared with its usual burst of light, and its steady weight in his grip helped him focus.
âKairi, Iâm sorry for leaving you behind again. I promise it wonât happen next time.â He glanced up at the endless sea of black above him. âBesides, something tells me your heart might be the key. You brought Sora and I back from the Realm of Darkness. Depending on how this goes, we might need another miracle.âÂ
While Riku hadnât hesitated to dive in after Sora, he knew there was no guarantee heâd make it back. This portal probably only went one way, knowing his luck. But if anyone could light the way home, it was Kairi.Â
He pointed his Keyblade at his Station of Awakening and unlocked it. As his surroundings faded away and a new path appeared before him, he had one last message for Kairi.
âSee you soon. And the next time I do, I swear, Sora will be with me.â
Despite all the odds, he wanted to give her this reassurance at least. He wanted to make up for all the tears and pain, the year of her life she spent sleeping away in the hope she might find a clue about Sora. A clue they needed because heâd failed to keep her and Sora safe. This was all his fault. If heâd protected Kairi from Xehanortâif heâd offered to go after her instead of letting Sora go it aloneâthen maybe, just maybe, Sora would still be here. Â
This was his penance; his way of making it up to them both. The debt would only be repaid when the two of them were reunited. And this time, heâd make sure he was there too. No slinking off into the darkness alone. If his journeys had taught him anything, it was that there was nothing more important than being with his friends.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kairi rested her chin on her hand and gazed out the window of the Gummi Ship. Sheâd seen this view several times now, but she still found herself staring at the sea of stars twinkling like diamonds in the sky. Wherever Sora was, could he see these stars? Did unreality have stars the way reality did?
âKairi? Whatcha thinkinâ about?â
âMmmm?â She broke out of her reverie and turned to her companion. Goofy was craning his neck to look at her, a concerned expression on his face.
âDo you think there are stars where Sora is?â she asked him.
He scratched his chin. âGawrsh, thatâs a good question. Iâd think so, but who knows what that fiction-place is like.â He turned to Donald, who was currently driving their vessel. âDonald? Whaddya think?â
Donald carefully guided them past a lumpy asteroid before responding. âWho knows. Maybe it has stars, maybe it doesnât. Probably depends on if the unreality has multiple worlds.âÂ
Kairi fiddled with her necklace. âI suppose itâs a silly question. I just⊠I wish I knew he was okay. I donât want him to be somewhere strange and scary that doesnât even have stars.â
She hadnât imagined heâd come to her aid in that dream sheâd had of Xehanort, right? One moment, sheâd been sprawled on the ground, disarmed, as Xehanort prepared to strike her down again, and then the nextâSoraâs Keyblade had appeared in her hand, and sheâd felt his presence. Heâd fought for her, too. But it was just like Xehanort saidâhe couldnât speak. Not a single word to her or to anyone.
Why was he without a voice? Who had taken his voice away? And where was his heart? Why would a vanquished Xehanort who had moved on to the afterlife even care about where his heart was? Unless the person sheâd met in her dream wasnât actually Xehanortâ
âKairi?â Goofy said, breaking her out of her thoughts again.
âSorry, I just⊠I dreamed about Sora, but he couldnât speak to me. I wish I knew what he wanted to tell meâif there was anything he wanted to tell me, that is.â
It was a little presumptuous of her to assume so. Heâd said what heâd needed to say before heâd disappeared. Wanting anything elseâafter everything heâd already doneâwhen so many other people missed him and wanted to talk to him tooâ
Goofy clapped a hand on her shoulder. âGawrsh, Iâm sure heâs got lots heâd like to tell ya.â
âYou really think so?âÂ
Donald cackled as he dodged around a meteor. âOh, we know so. And boy do we have the stories to back it up.âÂ
She tilted her head. âStories?â What did Donald mean? Stories about Sora, orâ
âGawrsh, Donald, maybe we shouldnât tell Kairi everything, I think Sora would be kinda embarrassedââ
âYou shoulda seen his face any time he saw a happy couple! Heâd get all blushy and flustered and giggly because he was thinking of a certain special someone.â
Goofy clasped his hands over his mouth and giggled. His eyes were dancing, and Kairi put two and two together.
âMe? He kept thinking of me?â
Donald and Goofy both nodded, like they were two bobbleheads controlled by the same spring.
She leaned against the window and smiled. âIf itâs not too much to ask⊠Could you tell me more? Stories about Sora, I mean. And your journeys as well. I got to talk to him about his journeys before he disappeared, but Iâd like to hear your thoughts and experiences, too.â
Ever since Sora and Riku had come home from their first adventure, sheâd gathered stories. Losing her memories once was awful, and she never wanted it to happen again. Chronicling her friendâs memories like this reassured her there was some record out there that didnât rely solely on something as malleable as memory, and she now had pages and pages of notes.
âSure thing,â Goofy said, so she dug around in her bag for her notebook and favorite gel pen. Once she was settled in, she took notes as Goofy spoke and Donald chimed in. Hearing stories about Sora helped her feel closer to him. Stories of his (mis)adventures and daring deeds, his moments of vulnerability and happiest memories, his corny jokes and hopeless romantic tendencies. And since she couldnât go after him herself right now, this was the closest she could get to being close to him.Â
Later that evening, as she was poring over her notes and reliving Donald and Goofyâs memories in the privacy of her quarters, she chewed on the end of her pen. Was it wrong to be a little upset at Riku? Upset at herself, too, for caving so easily, for not even fighting for the chance to go with him? For giving up so easily on an opportunity to save Sora? Hearing stories about him just made her want to be with him that much more. Waiting wasnât good enough. Training wasnât good enough. How could she even stay behind, safe and sound, while Riku was risking his life to save Sora? And after Sora had sacrificed himself for her. It wasnât fair. None of this was fair.Â
Sora, forgive me, she thought sadly. I wanted to go after you, but after facing off against Xehanort in my dream⊠Not even being able to handle a dream version of him without your help⊠Iâm scared Iâd just let you down again. Or worse, get you hurt or killed for real. And I canât⊠I canât bear to lose you again. So for now, Iâll train with Aqua, okay? That⊠feels like the right thing to do. I think.
She sighed deeply. No matter how much she tried to convince herself, she was still disappointed she wasnât searching for Sora with Riku right now. She should be with him. Why did she have to train and train and train when Sora and Riku got to learn by experience? It wasnât fair. It wasnât fair, and she was sick of being shunted to the sidelines.Â
âItâs because youâre weak,â she said with a frown as she drew an angry face in the margins of her notes. âYou hold everyone else back. And Sora had to pay the price for your weakness. Itâs your fault heâs gone.âÂ
No.
She gasped and dropped the pen. Scrawled on the page in purple ink next to her angry face was the message. N-o. Short, simple, to the point.Â
The handwriting was not her own.Â
âSora?â she asked, resting a hand over her heart. But she heard nothing; felt nothing. âOh, right. Xehanort, or whoever that really was, said youâre without a voice. I wonder what he meant by that.âÂ
She fumbled around for her pen, then put it to the paper. âSora? I donât know how this is possible, but if thereâs anything you really want to tell me, um, I donât mind if you⊠take over for a little while?â
That was what had happened, right? Heâd taken control of her body to fight for her, and his heart had manifested. Somehow. Was a part of his heart inside her? Or had the paopu fruit really bound them together like the stories said it would?Â
âAny time now, I promise I donât mind,â she said, feeling a little silly for talking out loud like this. But if Sora really could hear her, maybe it wasnât so silly after all. Â
She waited, and waited, and waited. The little cuckoo clock in the corner went off, the little cuckoo bird popping out to announce it was past her bedtime, past her bedtime, past her bedtime. She sighed and started doodling again. Little drawings of Soraâs smile because she missed seeing the real thing. But nothing else happened; if he really was the one whoâd left her that message earlier, he was either gone or unavailable now. Or maybe⊠maybe the connection wasnât strong enough right now. Maybe it went in and out like her Gummiphoneâs reception did when Donald drove through a particularly thick asteroid field.Â
Was there a way to strengthen the connection so Sora could communicate with her more easily? She combed her brain for answers. Heâd manifested the first time to protect her because she was in danger. Then that message had shown up on her notes when sheâd been down on herself.Â
She tapped her pen on the paper. âThe common connection⊠The common connection⊠The first time, I needed help, and the second time, I was being down on myself. Maybe itâs linked to my feelings somehow? My heart?â
She flipped to a new page and jotted her thoughts down. Maybe Aqua could help her sort all of this out. Sure, a part of her still wanted to search for Sora with Riku right now, but maybe Sora wasnât as far away as theyâd thought.Â
Maybe the key to finding him rested in her heart. Or at least one of the keys. That was what she and Riku and the star-girl theyâd met in the Final World were, right? The girlâs key led to the unreality, Quadratum. Riku was following that clue because his key had been those dreams about Quadratum. But the other keyâŠÂ
She rested her hand over her heart and smiled. For the first time since suggesting she train with Aqua, she had a clear sense of what to do next. She would train with Aqua all right, but not just in fighting and wielding a Keyblade. Aqua was a skilled mage, and if anyone could help Kairi figure this all out, she could.Â
Closing the notebook, Kairi lay back on the bed and smiled. âHang in there, Sora. Rikuâs coming for you, and Iâll make my connection to you stronger, I swear.âÂ
The Gummi Ship would be arriving on the Land of Departure tomorrow, and then her training would begin in earnest. Someday soon Sora would come home to them, of that she was certain. Then they could finally be together like theyâd promised.Â
She rolled over and stared up at the stars. Whether the unreality had stars or not, she knew all worlds, all realities, shared the same sky.
âSee you soon.â

A/N: I finished Melody of Memory yesterday, and the plot bunnies soon took hold đI wanted to explore Riku and Kairiâs mental states after the events of the game, plus a few plot speculation/headcanon things that popped into my mind, and this was the result. I have some general thoughts on the game overall that I might put together in a separate post, but for now, this is my initial reaction. Thank you for reading!Â

001 - Kingdom Hearts
Favorite character: On the villain side: VEXEN IS BEST ORGANIZATION XIII MEMBER. Shoulda stayed evil, though. I like it when he complains and screams about everything and hates everyone. He's one of my favorite villains, just, like...in general. So fun to write. Also attached to Demyx, but I actually liked him more in III than II because it reminded me of my rawr lolspeek weeb days when I f/o'd him without knowing what f/o'ing was and then transitioned this to shipping VexDem like heck. On the hero side: MY GIRL KAIRI! But honorable mentions go to Sora, Riku, Aqua, Ven, Terra, Xion, Roxas, Lea, Ienzo, any Disney character I loved beforehand (this is way too fuckin many to list), Merlin (OKAY I WILL SINGLE HIM OUT), Yen Sid (I'LL SINGLE HIM OUT TOO), you know what let's also single out the Mickey+Donald+Goofy power trio...just...any KH hero who isn't part of the Yozora stuff or the KHUX stuff. ...Except I also LOVE Strelitzia, and she is the only KHUX-exclusive kiddo I care about but I care about her MANY. (Oh, and there's a least fave I have who's a "hero" but that's a debatable label). I would go on about why I love all of them but...that's too many characters to elaborate on
Least Favorite character: See, I think the real answer is Yozora, but the thing is I just tend to forget about him or not care (unless I'm doing a weird AU where he's Noctis' bratty Nobody, don't ask). He kinda represents the Shark Jump and I don't like watching that scene where he literally petrifies Sora for not being strong enough. But again, I can just kinda forget about him if he's not fed to me through a social-media unit. The one I LOVE TO HATE is Master Eraqus. The man actually triggered me back in the day. He is purity culture. He is the overbearing parent who will not accept you unless you are perfect. He is by and large the reason VAT didn't communicate with each other properly. He was the one who taught Aqua to think in absolutes. He lied to Ventus for years and then insisted to kill him was the only option, and then, when Terra tried to defend his brother figure/friend without knowing WHY Eraqus was doing such a thing, Eraqus didn't offer an explanation and instead switched targets to Terra citing that the problem was Terra's lack of OBEDIENCE. Eraqus is just very "my way or the highway" and uses his moral high horse to justify doing things that utterly lack compassion in any regard, which is something that GETS to me on a deep level, and let me tell you, I hated him for so long until I realized he was actually a super fuckin fun guy to imagine as a Bigger Bad in AUs that either have the KH protags teaming up or have villain protags needing a "greater good lawful evil" figure. And I just have found too many good memes about him cheating at chess and killing children. I have to laugh. Making fun of him is fun. He's a ridiculous character. That said, this recent trend of "erase everything bad he ever did and paint him as the ultimate hero of the saga" makes me raise eyebrows for SEVERAL reasons
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): VexDem, SoRiku, Kairi x Jaune Arc (RWBY), Aqua x Rosalina (Super Mario Galaxy) x Bayonetta, IsaLea, Ventus x Papyrus (Undertale), that was six but they all needed to be mentioned
Character I find most attractive: Ienzo. HOO BABY he is adorable. I saw someone make a Valentine's Day gifset of KH and FF characters shortly after III dropped and seeing his smiling face paired with a romance quote made my heart FLUTTER
Character I would marry: Probably Ienzo, see above. He's also a very kind guy. Favorite redemption in the modern era.
Character I would be best friends with: I hope the Destiny Trio would adopt me into their friend circle the way they've tended to do with every other inter-world denizen they've come across. I would love to have them as my positivity squad. Or, y'know, two positivities and one "it's okay to screw up" guy. Just. I would love to hang out with them. I often worry that I'm unlikable to my faves, but even though I would usually prefer to hang with the villains, I can pretty much guarantee these three would be open-minded about me. (Do I kiiiiinda wanna be friends with Vexen though? Of course I do. He'd hate me but maaaayyyyybe he would see me as one of his pet idiots who makes him look smarter, and we could bond over our fragile egos?)
a random thought: You ever think about that one NPC lady in Traverse Town who refused to tell you where she was from because it was none of her business? You ever wonder where she WAS from? What her world was like? How she ended up being the survivor of the Ansem Apocalypse when it hit her? All I know is that when I read her lines out loud (I used to read KH speech balloons out loud all the time), I gave her a Southern accent for no discernible reason and I stand by it. That woman has a twang.
An unpopular opinion: I don't want KHUX to be canon because I feel it's smaller-scale and takes a lot of mystery out of the worldbuilding. I always assume that the KHverse just includes ALL worlds in fiction, and that includes their thousand-year histories, meaning the Age of Fairy Tales should've happened long long long LONG LONG LONG ago and not five generations. And whatever screwed up the world should've been more than just five people having a fight, and whatever saved it should've been more than just five people getting along, and Daybreak Town really suffers from having to stick to mobile-friendly graphics and therefore is the least aesthetically attractive KH town ever, and I don't like that Lauriam and Elrena used to be such selfless people. I do still love Strelitzia because she's shy and relatable and quirky (sitting on the roof) and she questions authority and if you go with shipping subtext she's probably bi (or pan?), but I don't like the "Lauriam's dead sister for his arc's drama" bit. I liked when Marluxia was angry because he wanted to run Organization XIII but it was in the hands of an idiot who wasn't him. And more than anything I just like imagining that the Age of Fairy Tales was something bigger, further in the past, and more mysterious than something designed for a mobile game. Scala ad Caelum, however, I like a lot better because there IS a lot of mystery there and also it's a very pretty town with an amazing design.
my canon OTP: I really only count the Disney couples as the "canon" ones, so this is a question of picking my favorite Disney couple that shows up onscreen. I hope I'm not forgetting an important one, but I think the title has to go to Aladdin/Jasmine, which is always perfect in everything. (This would be an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT STORY if KH had ever adapted Treasure Planet, and if it ever gets the mind to adapt Treasure Planet then even if I don't care about that game I will immediately declare that Amelia/Doppler takes the KH canon OTP crown. *taps watch* Get on it Squenix)
Non-canon OTP: SoRiku, which I counted as "basically canon" after DDD until III decided it wasn't sure. But I'm just a sucker for how DDD is the two of them all "HE'S GOT MY BACK AND I'VE GOT HIS AND I'D DO ANYTHING FOR HIM SO LONG AS HE'S HAPPY." It's just the best kind of Friends-to-Lovers, except when you take all canon into account it's Friends-to-Rivals-to-Enemies-to-Friends-to-Lovers and that's a very juicy dynamic. BUT ALSO: VexDem, which is a nostalgia ship SO STRONG I had to accept that it eclipsed my former Vexen ships by a mile and I wanted to go back to my roots. That one, I have a much longer essay about that I'll just have you refer to so I don't repeat myself for pages. To make a long story short, their scene in III was JUST DELICIOUS.
most badass character: OOF THEY'RE ALL BADASS but in the end it's between Sora and Aqua, because Sora gets the widest RANGE of abilities across the series that he masters while Aqua gets the most POWERFUL abilities due to her Mastery (Command Styles seem like they'd be the most OP things ever in-universe and I'm here for it because flashy battle moves make brain go brr).
pairing I am not a fan of: SOKAI, Xehaqus, RikuNami, Vanitas/anyone not evil
character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): OH BOY. KAIRI THE MOST. YOU ALL KNOW WHY: lack of screen time, Fridging for drama, forced romance to invite death flags (they really wanted to milk that death to get people talking didn't they?), giving Alyson Stoner ZERO direction to actually follow up on Hayden Panettiere's performance. But then I remember that they made Vexen redeem and lose his entire personality and I just...uuugghhhh. I can't believe he died twice in this series. And then Demyx is FUN but also I know he's flipped sides as well, which means he won't be fun much longer! Xehanort seems to switch motivations to whatever makes him the biggest threat (and several of Eraqus' old flaws seem to be mysteriously glued onto him), Sora isn't a motormouth anymore, Riku just doesn't get anyone who cares about him anymore because everyone's distracted by Sora and Kairi, IS ANYBODY GOING TO ADDRESS THE ACTUAL ISSUES THAT DROVE THE WAYFINDER TRIO APART, oh God Marluxia and Larxene you're good guys now what have they done to you
favourite friendship: I really like each of the trios. But you know what's even BETTER than the trios? If you put...all of the trios together...meaning Sora, Riku, Kairi, Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Aqua, Terra, Ven, Roxas, Xion, Lea, Hayner, Pence, Olette...and then you added Isa back in there...and you gave them Ienzo...and you brought back Naminé...and you say that Subject X is Strelitzia and you have her turn back up so she can have justice done...AND YOU HAVE AN ULTRA KEYBLADE GROUP OF FRIENDS. As for Vexen, any purely platonic relationship I have for him is a crossover but trust me I have many crossover pals for he
character I want to adopt or be adopted by: See everyone I listed above in the friendship question. They can either mentor me or let me be their big sis/mom. But also, I will GLADLY be Merlin or Yen Sid's daughter. (But also would I kiiiiinda wanna be a VexDem daughter? This is the worst idea. Still wanna try)

surprise~ I wrote sokai. actually not a surprise I mentioned writing it after I beat melody of memory, Iâve just been working on it forever since my writing process has been a STRUGGLE lately. my AO3 and fanfiction accounts are linked on my profile if youâd prefer to read there [or just look up thedeliverygod]
Always
Sora blinked his eyes open to see his bedroom, a bright ray of sunlight running through the middle of the floor from where the curtains met. Grunting, he turned over and closed his eyes as he sunk his head down into the pillow again to go back to sleep.
âWait⊠my room?â
The realization clicked and his eyes shot open. As he gazed upon the ship hanging from the ceiling and other odds and ends collected around the room, he knew it had to be his.
âWhen did I get home?â He sat up and held his head, trying to remember what had happened last.
He had been in Quadratum for some time, but he had eventually met up with Riku and later the rest of their friends. Sora wasnât used to being the one who had to be saved, but it took everyoneâs strength and willpower to bring him back to their reality and the realm of light.
Kairi.
He remembered Kairi comforting him, talking to him softly but he couldnât remember what she said.
He also remembered being at Yen Sidâs tower and something being mentioned about him needing rest. After that, nothing. Except for waking up here.
He shot upward and immediately felt the muscle aches all over his body as well as a multitude of bruises forming under his skin. Curative spells were amazing, but there was only so much they could do. He sucked in a breath before putting his feet to the floor and forcing himself to stand up despite the pain.
He clung to the banister of the stairs as he made his way down the stairs, but he wasnât even halfway down before his mom appeared at the foot of them.
âSora! Iâm really glad youâre awake, but do you really think you should be out of bed?â She reached out a hand and took a few steps upward.
âIâm just a little sore, itâs fine.â He waved her off before giving a wide grin, âItâs good to see you, Mom.â
She shook her head but just stared at him with watering eyes as he continued to make his way down the stairs. Once he had reached her, she enveloped him in a tight hug, âI canât believe how grown up you are.â
âYeah, me neither.â He answered in a laugh.
âIâve missed you so much.â
He hugged her tighter, âMe too.â
Hesitantly letting him go, she waved towards the living room, âLetâs go sit down.â
Sora nodded and followed after her, âOkay.â While she took the couch, he took the worn-out arm chair as he always had.
âKairi filled me on somewhat of all youâve been through over the past few years. I canât even begin to imagineâŠâ
âSpeaking of Kairi, is she still here?â He asked automatically. After a beat and his cheeks starting to warm, he added, âOr Riku, or anyone else?â
Giving a confused look to his question at first, she realized what he meant and answered, âOh, you mean on the islands. Yes, Kairi is still here. I believe Riku is still with the others that Kairi mentioned, though Iâm not sure where they are.â
He let out a breath and nodded, âAh, okay.â
His mom looked at him knowingly and smirked, commenting, âStill got it bad for Kairi after all these years, huh?â
Though he made a yelping noise in response to her blunt questioning, he looked away and answered, âIs that surprising?â
âNot at all. And the way she talked about you seemed to be quite different too, so I figured something must have happened. Are you finally dating?â She raised an eyebrow.
âWell, no, not reallyâŠâ He answered honestly, âItâs hard to really âdateâ with the life weâve had.â
âOh,â She parted her lips and let out a disappointed sigh, âYeah, I suppose youâre right.â
âBut,â He started again and she looked back up, intrigued, âDo you remember when we came back to the islands before a big fight before?â
She nodded, âOf course. I was so happy to see you then, too.â
âWell, we shared a paopu fruit when we went out to the play island to watch the sunset like we did as kids. Kairiâs idea, of course.â He flushed again, quickly adding, âN-not that I didnât want to!â
His mom laughed loudly, âOf course.â
âBut it was perfect. I think the paopu helped bring us together again despite the almost impossible odds, just like the legend says.â He gave another soft grin.
âMaybe it did help, but I think a lot of it was just⊠you two just being who you are, you know?â She gave her own smile in return. Sora didnât really have the chance to respond before she changed the subject, âSo, I suppose you asked about Kairi because you want to go see her, right?â
His face quickly reddening again, he admitted, âWell, yeah. Butââ
âYou can go.â His mom waved towards the front door, âJust be back before dinner.â
He stared breathlessly for a moment before smiling, âThanks, Mom.â
âYouâre welcome.â She answered as he got up from the chair and slowly made his way to the door.
Once he was outside and off the porch steps, he reached into his pocket for his gummi phone. Unsurprisingly, he had several messages from various people asking for him to call once he had woken up and was feeling better. âWell, I still kinda feel awful, honestly.â He thought to himself, both as a truth and as an excuse to wait to call them later.
He moved to Kairiâs name and hit dial. After a few chirps, he heard her voice ring out through the speaker, âSora?â
âKairi!â He answered, grinning widely.
She gave a small laugh, âSo youâre finally awake, lazy bum.â
âYeah. Canât say the same about my arms and legs, though. They kinda feel like jelly.â He tried to stretch his free arm again and found much of the same feeling as he had when he woken up earlier.
âIâm not surprised, Iâm pretty sore too.â
âSo⊠where are you? Youâre still on the islands, right?â He bit his lip, hoping he hadnât missed her.
âOf course. Riku wanted to stay too, but I guess there were some last-minute things King Mickey wanted his help with. Oh, and Iâm at my house but Iâll come to yours. You really shouldnât be pushing yourself so soon.â
He rolled his eyes, âIâm not that out of it. How about we meet halfway? Like around the park, I guess.â
Kairi hummed, âOkay, if you say so.â
âGreat. See you soon.â He tapped the red button to end the call and set out on his way.
Pushing himself beyond his limits was nothing new with all of the things he had done on his adventures in the past few years, but he was still bent over in pain by the time he made it to the park.
âI would laugh because I knew you would do this, but you look awful.â Kairi commented as she approached him.
Straightening out and standing up straight, he smiled apologetically, âYeah, you were right.â
âWhat a surprise.â She lightly grabbed his hand and tugged him towards a picnic table, âLetâs sit down.â
âThank you.â He let out, unable to hold it in any longer as he sat down and faced her.
She blinked, âFor what?â
âFor everything.â He answered automatically. After a moment, he clarified, âFor saving me.â
Kairi smiled and shook her head, âItâs like I told you years ago. I couldnât just let you stay that way and forget about you. Thatâs the same reason you came after me, right?â
âTo be honest, I didnât really think about it. I just acted. But yeah, I guess thatâs the best way to put it.â He admitted with a small laugh.
âThatâs such a Sora thing to say.â She reached over to intertwine her hand with his.
He quirked an eyebrow, âI hope thatâs a compliment.â
âOf course.â She smiled brightly as she nodded.
âSo whatâs going on with everyone else?â Sora shifted the topic of conversation, curious, âI know you said Riku stayed behind to do a few last-minute things but honestly my memory is kinda fuzzy about what all happened right before coming home.â
Kairiâs expression dampened somewhat, but she still kept a smile, âJust making sure everything is the way itâs supposed to be. And then weâre supposed to be able to take a break for a little while. Just hang out here on the islands; you, me, and Riku.â
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, âThat sounds nice.â
âIâm sure. Youâve been through a lot.â
He opened his eyes and looked at her seriously, answering, âSo have you, you know.â
Quietly, she nodded and held his hand a little tighter.
And suddenly, he knew what he had to do.
âKairi.â He called her name and she looked up curiously.
âYes?â
âThis isnât really how I ever imagined doing it, but I think this feels right.â He slipped down from the bench and knelt on one knee, with Kairi quickly clasping her hands over her mouth in surprise. âI donât even know how old I was when I started dreaming about wanting to spend my life with you. And for a long time, it always seemed out of reach; both because I didnât know how you feel and because of all of the things weâve been through. But I want to make it real now. No matter what happens next, I want to be by your side, always.â
Kairi nodded vigorously, tears starting to overflow from the corners of her eyes, âThatâs what I want too.â
Sora reached out and motioned for her hand, only to pull it towards him and kiss her knuckles. âIâm sorry I donât have a ring yet. But like I said before, this wasnât exactly planned soâŠâ They both shared a quick laugh before he smiled widely and asked, âKairi, will you marry me?â
âYes.â She slid closer to him and pressed a kiss against him eagerly, âYes, yes, yes.â
He cupped both sides of her face and grinned against her, âSo⊠when do we let everyone else know?â
âMaybe keep it a secret for a few days or else everyoneâs hugs may crush what little solid bones you have left in your body right now.â She gave a gentle squeeze of his arm which he had to admit hurt much more than he expected.
âOw.â He rubbed the spot she had squeezed, âBut thatâs a very solid point.â
âDo you need me to carry you back to your house?â Kairi teased with a tilt of her head.
He shook his head, âI dunno, I think itâs poor form to have your new fiancĂ©e carry you.â
âFiancĂ©e, huh.â She beamed, humming, âI think I like the sound of that.â
âSo do I.â He kissed her again.

Kingdom Hearts 3 broke my heart.
I am a fan of Kingdom Hearts. i've been here through the first game and even though I grew up without the money to play every game I stuck with the series as best I could. In fact I've bought multiple copies of games on multiple systems and beat a couple of the games not just once but 3 or more times. Here is a list of the things I've done involving this series.
1: I bought KH1/2/COM on more than one system such as ps2,3, and 4. 2: I've played and beaten on the hardest difficulty on each main installment (except critical mode of 3) 3: I have 100% KH1 which might not seem like a big deal but it is the only game I have 100% ever. Got all the trophies and so on. 4: I stuck with the story and even recently before 3 came out played and beat most of the games. (except DDD since it wasn't my kind of deal since I don't like the flowmotion part of the combat.)
You could say I'm a fan of the games and have done what I can to in general keep up with the series as well as have enjoyed the series.
But then 3 came out and I was just not happy with it. After waiting for so long and playing the game and screaming and ranting about certain plot points that just don't make sense to me (KH is notoriously hard to keep up with plot wise and I am just not the brightest person in the world when it comes to shit. Like I really need some things explained outright for me and to some degree do not mind spoilers for some things) I swore off KH the entirety from now on cause it was just that bad of a game for me. It wasn't a horrible game but the direction they started taking it in was just so far removed from what the original 2 games in the numerical series were that this was just NOT Kingdom Hearts at all. Sure you can say it is a love letter to the biggest of fans but I can say that a letter to regular fans was something it needed to do more than cater to such a rabid fanbase compared to a regular fanbase. I thought this was unfair and then bought Memory of Melody. That is now the worst game in the series to me. So I dived into what people thought and looked at a ton of youtubers who played the game and saw what they thought. I looked at reviews of non youtubers and read what they thought and the game has made the fanbase more divided than anything I'd ever seen from a fanbase. So I replayed the game with the intent to write down all I felt on the game to give it a fair review. Like I said I'm a filthy casual and I can give stuff a large break when it comes to media and have a large understanding of what that thing is meant to be. Sometimes a product is meant to be a certain way and we have to enjoy it for what it is and I can try and do that. I mean I love the WWE and Yugioh and anyone who is a part of those fanbases knows in their hearts (kek hearts) how bad those things can be at times. So I played the game and wrote down all the thoughts I had on it and Some might be easy to explain while others are in general probably at least fair on how I feel about it.
Kingdom Hearts is a series not meant for the new comer. It knows what it wants to be and does that thing. It isn't here to make everyone happy and that is just absolutely fine in general. I've been a fan and it makes me happy that the game is one long story that I can appreciate and make call backs to in stuff. I remember being so rewarded when I looked at my then best friend who skipped over chain of memories (I had to emulate it but I think it was fair of me to do so since I bought the game 3 times since now that I have the money to do so) and said he knew what happened because he saw the cutscene of Sora reaching the top and Namine betraying him by putting him into a pod. I laughed at him cause he was a fool who knew nothing of how the story went cause he foolishly just thought he didn't NEED to play the game. This made me more invested into the series than he was. I stuck with the series reading up articles and even watching videos on the series for stuff I missed out on since again i couldn't afford everything. They were building a story over a decade long and at the end it just didn't do it for me. It's not that the story wasn't the end of the series in general. Heck gotta make dat' money Y'all but in general this was the end of a saga for Xehanort and it just didn't cut it. But maybe I'm not starting at the right spot to give my feelings on it. Maybe I'm coming fresh off a game play and feeling a rant building for multiple reasons. So let me start with the positives before I bury the list under a pile of problems for me.
So I'll be putting things in order of good, mixed, bad. They will be somewhat fair and if they have an answer you have my sincerest apologies but remember I'm slightly the "dumb" and would in general like to just get simple straight answers. Something simple and clean if you would. On that note
1: The starting song is a god damned banger - Face my fears is up there with sanctuary which is better than Simple and clean. To be fair though simple and clean was made in like a flight and pretty much is nonsensical to the game in general. However it is a good song. How could it not be with one of japans best pop artists? Have you heard sakura drops? Colors? Traveling? Apples and cinnamon? Fuck man this song is just really good. 2: The game looks great - Sure the game might not look like ps2 graphics anymore but this isn't a bad thing it just is a different thing. The only time I thought it looked bad was during the pirates area where they had to make real people. Sometimes it is better to have a different art theme and even if something is just ok at best during it it can still be over all great. Everyone looked good during it. It just in general looked like a new version of KH entirely. 3: You can power up keyblades - One of the best parts of the game is powering up keyblades. Now sure mickey saying "we should have powered up our keyblades" is a stupid line in general when they are magic items and not fully meant to break form normal stuff but i think the ability to latch onto a key and make that sucker your main key is a great idea. Finally I can power up keys like sweet memories or the kingdom key and go through the cutscenes with the keyblade never changing and it look like it's meant to be there. 4: The whole getting treasure for sinking ships - Even if in general people might not like the ship combat the idea of being a pirate and stealing treasure from a ship when you sink one of the large ones is one of the best thematical ideas in the game. You can just sail the ocean and just pirate ship for loot if you wanted to and since you get xp during it and get your ship to be better it just is a great idea in its entirety. 5: Rikus keyblade - That is one of the better keyblades. I'm not gonna lie but the final fantasy cloud based keyblades where they are more realistic have been one of my favorite designs and I am sad i can't throw it on sora. I like the idea of an actual blade instead of a blunt weapon in the game since it just feels cooler sometimes. Riku getting a keyblade that not only looks more like a sword but is also still a key for a more modern car is one of the cooler things they have ever put in. 6: The call back to union cross players - This was a little lover note to people who played the game. They grabbed a ton of names and threw them in as you threw hundreds of keyblades at the giant heartless storm mob thing. I think it is great and even if I didn't play one of the names that pops up is my actual name so I find that pretty cool whenever I see it.
And that is it. Those are the best parts of KH3 to me. Everything else is either a mixed bag or just not good. I'm sure you can tell which one has more in it. As for the stuff that is in the middle of both good and bad let me make it clear that some stuff that is bad will probably be talked about in the bad section because it needs its own commentary.
1: All the party members - I always was a little sad having to remove one of the characters in my party to add the one new person they wanted to add in and was always sad at that limitation but with 3 you can now have ALL THE MEMBERS. This is great because now I have access to all of my forms with donal...... Oh right, they're not in the game anymore. 2: Nice to one and done an area - Back in the day when I first played the original first game I never went back cause I beat the level and thought it was extra stuff. When I got older and playued through 2 I was a little impatient and just didn't want to keep going back. Now as I am older and wiser and more patient I just do the thing cause it's a part of the game and deal. Thankfully it is all in one trip which is good CAUSE I DON'T WANNA FUCKING PLAY THESE LEVELS EVER AGAIN. 3: I'm gonna say it and people are gonna question me (probably not I'm not a large content creator thus people probably don't care about my opinion so strange of you to be here reading this) but I fucking hate winnie the pooh. I don't like him as a person and I'm just not a fan of his entire world. I only like Eeyore and not cause "gosh that's how I feel" Eeyore is the fucking man. He never lets his bad mood get him down and he powers through even when life is shit. Good for him man. Love that guy. Such a trooper. I just don't like pooh but the levels. God Kingdom Hearts mini games are just mostly not fun in general so not having to play so many mini games in poohs level is fantastic. EXCEPT EVERY WORLD HAS A DAMNED MINI GAME IN IT. 4: Speaking of mini games the ship combat is fine. - It's just, fine. 5: I had so much money - I don't remember playing any other game having so much money. I remember caring and investing and even trying to get money to spend on stuff in some points and in here it just.... I never spent it until i got bored and started using food. I didn't use food until the last world and beyond cause I wanted to finish the game faster. I mean the change of pace having money is nice but there was nothing really to do with it. Maybe I should have bought Hayner, Pence and Olette a ton of pretzels with it. 6: Playing as any other keyblade wielder - Man this was one of those great moments that I was excited to do. Having played as many other characters during other games was always nice and refreshing and being able to do so here was great. It got me excited to play as Mickey again since I got to use him a few times in KH2 or to be able to use Ventus or Aqua again cause they were gonna be saved and be able to fight in the upcoming battle. That is you know. If they are used in the game more than one time each. 7: Giant heartless battle - One of the best moments in the game was the "goofy just died" moment. Not because The goof man "died" but because you got to solo fight a crowd of enemies and in this game it was so cool to have that call back. The shit icing on that beautiful cake was having to use the train to win. Like it just felt like I was making no progress and I can't on my own fight the enemies and no matter how hard you try you can never stop the enemies ever. 8: The what if scenario - The group dying was pretty cool and was a great what if but would have been better if they didn't come back to the past and have Ventus run up and think it was Terra again. It was cool for the lingering will to step in and help but even then the whole situation was so stupid that it could have been written better. What if instead of doing the whole scenario it was a mind fuckery to sora to put him down mentally like they had been trying to entire game. What if it showed him losing and that it was possible? Instead we got this long winded scenario where people didn't learn from their first mistake and tried to go run up to Terra when in that moment Aqua when Ven tried going should have grabbed his shoulder and said "you know it's not him so let's just get ready to fight"
Those are the mixed bag moments I was commenting on. Some things are fine and aren't really an issue except the are a part of a bigger problem in itself which makes them a mixed bag. The last part's I'll be writing about are pretty much a giant rant or asking questions to things. There are problematic points I'll be making as well. So now let's look at the bad stuff in KH3. However, before I get into it, I want to also write down the not as bad stuff as well as some of the really big stuff so I'll make sure to point out when it is a gripe that isn't the worst thing in the world compared to it actually being not good.
1: Nitpick/The social media is dumb - Look I'm not much of a social media person and I know todays kids and teens are all about that jazz and such but man this part of the game is pretty dumb. I am in no way too old to "get hip with it grandpa" and think social media is a bad thing. Times and things change but WHY IS THIS A THING? Sora and friends are out saving the world and probably do not know about current phones since they are so busy. They would be like really old people trying to catch up with todays world and just in general should not have time enough to do it. Sure giving a phone is fine which whatever they can just add in ways to contact which again makes the phone fine but social media is dumb. What platform are they on? Who is following them? What world is this being sent to in general? Does anyone really care?
2: Nitpick/Why 7 VS 13? - I think the number is just really off. Ok look the original organization 13 was fine. Having 14 members in it wasn't a big deal and sure fighting them seperately and not all in one game made me a little sad until final mix came out but at least i got to fight Marluxia in all his pretty boy glory. The point I make is they just seem to have stuck with the 13 which is fine I guess? It just seemed like it was more or less there for no real reason. Sure we would have to fight every single Xehanort around such as Ansem, Xemnas, Terranort, Xigbar who works with old man Xehanort, Young Xehanort, Old man Xehanort. If you also in general wanted him to have each good guy fight a bad guy we would need one for each single keyblade wielder to come out. So let's say Kairi and Axel were just gonna join in so we can have for whatever reason Xion and Roxas just pop out to fight people. We would have need for a total of 7 enemies to fight. Let's just use these guys here as people for people to fight. We can have terranort fight someone before he comes back as lingering will to fight and get his body back. We can have Kairi fight Xion until she defects in general and fights another person with her. We can have axel fight Xemnas so he can get revenge and then have him lose and Roxas can come out. So on and so forth until we have just enough for each person to be matched with another person. You wouldn't need to stretch and find whatever you can and just fill the numbers. You could have at that point just filled it with villains you knew you wanted on your team. Not just bring back generic dudes who don't even need to be here. I'll get more into that in a moment but the numbers just seem off and could have been anything not 7 v 13 but like I said. Nitpick.
3: The plot of Sora flying around this time is a little weak. - So Sora lost his powers and needs to get them back. So he fucks off for a bit until he can regain the powers. Wouldn't it be better if he also trained with Kairi and Axel? What about just going into the realm of darkness to help the others get Aqua? What if instead of just going back and forth to each Disney world like he normally did he in general just.....trained. See the point of the other games was "close the keyholes of the world so heartless stop getting in. Stop those nobodies from opening Kindom Hearts." Kind like saving the world is a great motivation to have compared to "fuck off until you are good or something". It's one of the biggest issues in general. Now if he was told something more substantial than "you need the power of waking" than it would have made the grind through much better. Add in a new plot element for him to need to travel to lands in general so he can earn the power of waking. Send him to places to get that shit instead of "get stronger". You think I can't just do that shit with story? Shit's boring man lemme do stuff.
4: You cannot turn off attractions - That is without playing critical mode. Man Attractions are in general one of the worst parts of the game. Sure I find it hilarious when I'm fighting an important boss (such as Xemnas) and I last hit him with a merry go round but in general they just suck. They aren't fun and they slow the games combat down with a cinematic. Sure they can be "avoided" and I "don't have to use them" but they exist in the game. They are the creators vision and he wants you to use them. If they didn't want it to be a huge part of the games combat system they wouldn't add it in and the fact that it shows up so often just kinda proves they want you to use the thing. Combat in here is very floaty if you haven't noticed and a more grounded approach is sometimes best. This is what the attractions do since they still try and attack you thus getting closer to the attraction in the first place. It's really a jarring object. Telling me not to use it while having the chance to actually accidentally press the button is frustrating. It's the smaller version of telling someone don't be mad when they are mad or try not to be depressed. It's hard to avoid and the answer isn't just "don't do it." Especially when the game puts in abilities to make them more prominent such as extending the time on them. Another point on this is that if the developer wanted them to be optional they wouldn't sometimes be mandatory or even show up during boss fights. Either this was an added on horse shit thing where Disney was like "add attractions or we're done" or Nomura just was like "i recently went to disney land and you gotta put this in it's dope". Joke aside it is one of the worst parts of the game since I can't turn them off and it is hard to get around them. Let me turn them off fully or let them be used as an ability where you can add them in if you want it. Customization should be more of a thing than a gimmick you keep getting. Also they show up so often and I believe in every enemy spawn group. Multiple times even if you miss it the first time. Having so much prominence placed onto this one mechanic just shows they went in hard on it and sure if it was just the rock titan or just the horde of heartless at the end or maybe even rare I wouldn't find it much of a problem but it is EVERY FREAKING COMBAT. I hit that button on accident more times than I wanted to that in general I was trying to use a spell but I missed it by seconds or something and the carnival ride started up and I just said "god dammit" and had to end it dealing a burst of damage since you can't just stop it, it has to go full swing. Also only in critical mode is kind of bullshit. Add it to every mode in the game and it'll be less of an issue.
5: Nitpick/Sora is an idiot - Look I don't mean the whole "he's so stupid now he just is always happy or has dumb dialogue" I mean the idiot tried to touch fire and instead of water magic which he now has and I spammed on the fire balls he walked up to a freaking inferno of flames and just tried to see if it was hot by touching it with his bare hands. Shit Sora you dumb fuck Goofy had a better idea than the mage and the main character and he's not always the brightest. Fuck you.
6: There is too much stuff in this game - Way too many mechanics and most of them are on forever. You have so much you can do such as the shotlock, Flowmotion, Carnival rides, Extra forms, Summoning the fat cat dream pokemon, so many mini games, Â just so much shit and I'm sure I forgot something. Now look I can let go of the whole "cat" thing because it is a summon and those are normal but in general it just feels like the entire game was overloaded with everything from every other game EXCEPT for cards and if we don't have cards for character upgrades or something it feels like a waste. (that's a joke) The point is that there is too much stuff and it's all filler and fluff and we can just have a nice game without 10,000 things to learn in the first section of the game.
7: Nitpick/ I think the selfies are just dumb - I've taken a total of maybe 5 selfies. All of which are to show a single person in that specific moment. Selfies don't really do much in the world we play in for KH3 and I just think it is in general a dumb game mechanic. However it is not required to do so it's not a big deal to have in. Just another nitpick.
8: Food and cooking - Look, this is not monster hunter. This is not another game where food is an important detail and sure I don't mind the addition of it if you really wanna put it in but it does make the game easier when used. In that direction fine making a game easier isn't a bad thing, however, constantly telling me now is a good time to find ingredients for little chef is annoying every time. I could figure it out if I really wanted it but in general since it is an optional mechanic to which I can just buy the parts for it and even the food at a kupo shop than what is the point in adding in the game play mechanics for it? The mini games are dumb and take too long to do for such a small mini game. Crack and egg get soup. Nothing else but crack an egg. So than the game is too short for a mechanic I'm supposed to do often? Why not add in a larger game so that I can help him create the object one time to see if he likes it and then when he adds it on I can order the object from him. Don't add it into the kupo store if I you want me to make it and don't make me make it be so tedious if you want me to make it. Also why is sora cooking at all? It's Remys passion not mine. He's even shown to run a packed restaurant all on his own at the end of the game in the credits scene.
9: More customization please - Here's a major issue I have with the game. There is less customization compared to other games. This is strange as in general it seems to be the same. The problem is this. I have to use flowmotion in the game. It is not an option because in certain levels it is a legitimate requirement to use for moving elsas castle. It is required in a couple other places as well but the point still stands. I need to have them equipped in order to make progress. The fact that in KH2 I could turn off big moves from team members but cannot now takes the agency away from me from making my fighting style more what I want to do. This means in order for me to really enjoy the game I have to really accept mechanics I was not a fan of in DDD. Maybe having an option for character customization such as turning off forms, and what special attacks you wanna do would be nice instead of giving everything under the sun. Do I want to be a fast mobile fighter? Than make that a character level abiliy choice instead of just making me have it from the start and also making it mandatory for levels. Allow me to remove the big moves with my team and stop making them always on since I never liked them. Sure I can ignore them but it comes down to the same thing as the attractions. Sometimes you cannot avoid hitting the wrong thing. This also goes into the whole magic sucking ass in this game. Every spell is offensive and thus it just feels like it is the same. Wanna do a little small thing with some damage? Wanna do massive damage comparatively? It just feels like they wanted to simplify the whole having a summon, having a spell, having 2 items on or something along those lines. This stops you from having more options on your character and just stream lines you in to a generic build. I didn't use ice once past the first time finding out its pretty much a fire ball. I used cure, fire, water, thunder. Thunder for crowds, fire for damage, water for crowds also because I just stopped caring and cura cause I heal all my damage cause DONALD NEVER HEALS YOU. WE'RE 4000 GAMES IN MAKE DONALD HEAL BETTER. This again comes back to the limits. Let me turn them off since I do not like them. If they worked as magic they would be better cause the magic sucks ass in the game. I mostly after a while stopped doing any real care in magic and just used healing. This also comes back to the original abilities in second form that you can unlock via smacking them with your keyblade. They would be nice since the magic in the game again sucks ass so having something to use magic bar that is not cure would be a nice touch.
10: For a guy who lost his powers I sure have a ton of abilities right away - Remember when in the beginning of each game you lost all your powers and had to slowly unlock everything and it would come to you not just willy nilly? Man those were the days. Could earn powers for reasons. I'm not helpless in the game if I can run up mountains or sky scrapers. If I can glide with the shotlock from one spot to another. I'm too strong if anything at the start and it just makes you feel like the game is padding time before the small amount of story at the end that matters. This could have literally been with the final chapter prologue and it would have worked fine. But no, we didn't get that. That leads into us just spending time until something happens. The story has its own issues (which I will touch up on near the end) and it has some really bad pacing issues. There is bad pacing, and then there is bad writing because of bad pacing. Why not put some shit in the middle. Show I'm getting better instead of just having me just do everything all at once. Â That's not really an issue if they space parts of it in or let me play as the other characters while sora is fucking off for power. Imagine if they added in more parts with Riku while Sora quests for strength. Imagine us going through the land of darkness instead of just Disney world after Disney world. Imagine what we could have had had it not just been all the Disney stuff then the finale all at once. It wasn't bad pacing for the end to pick up, it was bad pacing for there to be nothing in the middle. This is where the final fantasy characters could have been nice. Adding in the end of the Cloud and Sephiroth stuff so we can fight for more power there. Having us talk with Leon and the gang while they battle with some heartless just in the area and needing help. This would have made better pacing since it would have cut the monotony of the Disney grind. There are times when you just sit there waiting for stuff to happen as you run through world after world waiting for plot in general to just move forward. This does not mean it is bad pacing, this just means there is nothing important going on and leads to the story just falling short of being gripping and engaging. I again bring up the final fantasy characters because let's face it, if they did exist it would give something in general more time to flesh out. There is nothing to do but repeated disney movies that either play out like normal or that you play no real part in since it is after the story in the whole movie. Sure it was great to see what happened with boo and the monsters but Randall just is there and I'm sure he was gone at the end of the first movie. In fact after using my Disney plus account (#notsponsored) to just hit the end of the movie it shows him in a trailer getting beat with a shovel. He probably got back but still.
11: The combat is too "floaty" - I'm in the sky like fucking constantly man. Like all the time. Which is a bad thing since the fucking god damned level creation is now just a tall hallway. See I say tallway (patent pending) beause the level of the game is still pretty small but now it just also goes up a long way. I know this because there are so many flashing walls that there should be seizure warnings in the beginning of the game. It doesn't stop either since in general you have to climb high and doing so brings you ledges and if you have to hit people flying then you are gonna fall. Sure we can use magic but magic runs out and is complete ass. Now look this isn't just me saying it can happen since it does right in the hercules area. The first area where they could have been testing thing and probably did which means someone dealt with this shit and said it was fine enough to pass. That's just bad game mechanics right there. If you want me to be floaty in combat that do not put ledges I can fall down in your game. I do not want to climb all the way back to the top just to get into more fights I might fall down because of. Maybe make the parts I'm on bigger platforms. It just seems they want us to use the attractions because you can't fall off the safe attractions. Another thing is that it isn't just combat that is "floaty" but your movement is also a little too fast. Making larger areas and then making us speed up into a sprint is fine but having me stop right next to a save spot inches too short of touching it only for me to Vroom Vroom right over it because of how fast and far I move is god damned infuriating. It also continues combat wise as an issue in that once you get the ability to knock people up you start going into air combat and smacking them away and you can do that so much since in general the areas you fight in are so large that you can knock a single heartless out of the spawning area enough that you have to run back to fight it.
12: Proud mode is a fucking joke - I think I died a total of one time in proud mode which is probably more than others. See the difficulty has been said to be really easy on this games play through and I'm inclined to believe them. Here is the thing. I know critical mode now exists. I just don't like it. See critical mode was doable in 2 since it was just again harder stuff but in this it is no longer you playing KH3. It is you playing Dark Souls which if I wanted to play that kind of game I'd pop in my copy of bloodborne or turn on my copy of dakr souls 2 which in general I'm not a huge fan of so I stopped playing those games. Difficulty in a game is fine but there is going from hard to fuck why am I playing dark souls? No I'm not the kind of guy who says anything hard is dark souls because I grew up in the era of gaming where games had one difficulty and you had to learn to "get gud" or deal with never winning. Even if I was never good at games I didn't shy away from things being difficult. There is however an exception that the game changes so drastically that there is no happy medium between pants shittingly hard or baby mode. The other thing is that in general DLC should not dictate if a game is good on its own. DLC is meant to enhance the fucking experience and should not make me want to have to buy something (this was free) to get a god damned happy experience out of something that cost me top dollar to begin with. If I need your DLC to have fun or enjoy the story than you clearly missed the damned mark. DLC is extra boss battles. It is final mix of the game when it comes out. It turns your vanilla play through into more than what it once was. It adds aesthetics to the game not makes the game difficult and if it does it doesn't make the game different to such a degree that I'd rather fucking play a game that was created to be that difficult because their combat system is hand crafted for said difficulty. Secondly on that list of being too easy who the fuck thought kupo coins was a good idea. I literally just stopped giving a shit since I could use my now always full magic bar since magic is ass to heal when I needed it and to just run away with my big fucking area during battles and not take damage until I could go in and do slappies for a while before running away and gauging if I need to heal and then if I died come back to life. With all the power moves and free attractions each combat I could have beaten proud mode without gimping myself by trying to not use attractions. The forms didn't help with that either because I would just second form and have a brand new powerful thing to do since it was right there. Not only that but rage form is a full heal and why am I heartless sora again? Either way rage form into run away fast because I run like I'm form kenya with all the movement abilities and then with kupo coin and magic makes the difficulty in here easier than "just don't use it". Mostly because it is implemented in the game and they want you to use it. Telling someone not to use the thing is again stupid because if they didn't want me to use it they would remove the feature. This is no longer a kids game. I'm over 10 years older than I once was and I'm a big boy and want to not be treated like a child. Sure they could be putting it in for kids but why not just have it in easy mode since kids will either do easy mode or know they want that extra challenge.
13: Many of the fights and heartless are just not that good compared to earlier games - So firstly the giant horde of heartless was cool one time. Each time you fight it it gets more and more boring and feels like a cop out on trying to make a good battle and a "oh man this is such a cool idea lets use it alot more than we need to". For a game that was in development for 6 years you think they would have more varied enemies and fights and by that I mean more better heartless. Also some of the heartless are just kinda eh in general. Not only that but the places we visit feel like the heartless are kinda thrown in there and they just made way less enemies than normal. Maybe that is me forgetting if other games did the same thing but I can remember many places having more unique enemies that made more sense. Like why is the monkey heartless here? This is not the time to return to monke or some shit like that and it makes 0 sense when I have to fight it in more than one area. How about the lady heartless with the umbrella. Doesn't fit in every single place it shows up and just feels like it is there. Sometimes they do a nice job putting in certain heartless such as the reindeer which I thought was a nice touch but i don't remember them interacting at all with the reindeer from frozen. I also in general remember each heartless having a newer form such as the fat heartless eventually turned into fire breathers and then eventually into shield dudes. They do not make a reappearance but the fat ones show up all over the place and it would be nice to fight things that are great for the area. Some just also have eh designs and the game just feels poorly made because of it. Some bosses are just boring as well. In fact off the top of my head I can't really remember one I like but I sure as shit can remember the one I hated most which happens to be the airship section where you board a machine gun heartless to fight that sky bird thing in the pirates section. I even found the robots in general tedious because they were hard to beat without the use of the robot suits and felt like another tacked on gimmick to use to make combat more easy. Had they been a single section and not everywhere in the store it would have been cooler but instead we had many fights to do with robots who almost always wrecked my shit. In fact it ruined combat a little for me in general and made the section of toy story a little less good. See most of these issues I have with the places are the grand scale of things and having to go back and forth with them with having really unmemorable heartless for the most part and just not finding the game to be that great with some of the more important parts. Enemies help to flesh the game out to be cooler and as much as I love the generic heartless the worlds make the heartless cooler by making them change to be better suited for the world they are in. Having extra enemies like nobodies and unversed without having much of a reason to have them there other than "you remember this right?" seems like a waste of design chances. Some just either were frustrating tank sponges and the others were just not good. The other issue is some bosses appeared numerous times and just didn't feel impressive when fighting them since they just keep coming back. The giant heartless who I saw in hercules mode coming back on the bridge where you first meet Baymax makes the scene not great since it is a simple color swap at most and it is the same thing again. A lot of the bosses in general just feel ok at best too design wise. I can look back at many of the designs and just name really enjoyable ones who are better than the ones we got here. Honestly the designs are just so much of a let down I don't even wanna revisit the stages which is good because the game just isnt that much fun. One of the more unfun parts of enemies is also the shield stuff they have sometimes which is just more ways to give them extra health. Why not just in general just give them more health since it is just a way to beef them up? Not only are they now mostly damage sponges but the fact that some turn into shielded damage sponges just makes me less happy to fight things. The worst version of unfun boss happens to be the lich at the end when you need to rescue everyone from it. The thing is that it not only takes forever and makes you have to fight it numerous times but it also has the ability to make you unlock from it and in such large areas that becomes tedious to deal with lengthening the entire fight from the already long fight it is.
14: Quick speed round of things I don't like that are just not as good as earlier games - Magic sucks in this game. It's all relatively the same since it is all offensive. Aero was in general the same as thunder since it is aoe with a secondary effect. Water, Fire, Ice are all the same as they shoot a ball of the element that homing devices onto an enemy and when not in general locked on fucks off wherever. I miss the older spells and how they worked and felt more unique in 2 while also having more than just offense. Maybe introduce more spells to the next main entry based on the spells of every other game? I'm just not a fan of some of these worlds as they are all new. I haven't had a chance to catch most of the new movies (even thought I have disney plus which is great you should totally buy it #stillnotsponsored) I just don't like some of the places and the mini games in the don't help. Slight inconvenience but making me have to press x as I load new levels is kinda dumb. Maximus should be a party member. Give me him instead of eugene. Why do I need the flowmotion to progress? Hooray WATER LEVELS MY FAVORITE. Crabs. Watch me beat davy jones in a 4 on 1 battle.Darkubes are dumb. Jesus christ Jiminy shut up I'm trying to grind in the best place for the end game. Oh look it's an organization member maybe I can figh....nah they gone now. THERE ARE SO MANY CUTSCENES.
15: 2 final things before the story issues - Playing as other characters, keyblade forms. One of the biggest gripes I had in this was each time I used a new keyblade i wanted to fight with it and not transform into a new form because I do not like the new forms. They do nothing for me and since they kind of all are ok at best that it just kinda feels meh to me to use them. I pretty much used the kingdom key because second form was fine and stayed a keyblade. If anything I would rather have a new style of fighting like second form in general like the original forms are in KH2. I like valor and wisdom form and as cool of a call back as it was for the 2 first keyblades to be given to you I don't like the final ability to be used which makes me less inclined to find a weapon I do like. Which leads into my second final gripe. I was really excited to play as multiple keyblade wielders. Playing as mickey in 2 was super fucking cool and I miss that. Playing as Aqua and Riku in this made me hope for eventual fights at the end where it was each person fought someone else and you would get an ability to play through a final area for extra boss fights as any character for extra gameplay. I was excited to see what Axel and Kairi could do since in general they finally had moments to shine. You could make them fight and even if they did win just have them lose via cutscene and bring back Roxas and have Xion turn to your side. So many issues I have with that because it goes into another issue of.......
16: Everyone but Sora is fucking worthless - I have seen Dragonball GT and the main main main main main issue I have with that show is no one matters except Goku. See in other series characters could fight and kill or do something against the not main villain and be worth a damn but when GT happened everyone kinda just. Became worthless. No one could win a fight except Goku especially near the end when they had him fight 7 dragons. Sora does the same here when he has to be involved the final boss rush in the game. I'd have liked to see other characters stand out but even then he is the only one who can fight Xehanort when Mickey failed to do anything. It was all sora. Even waking Aqua was all sora. The only time someone did something was when Aqua fought Vanitas and still got her shit kicked in at the end during the cinematic and at that point he just didn't wanna fight 3 people. This is a shame because as I already said it would have been cooler to have those characters fight people and it matter. Let's break down the people who would be on our side Riku Kairi Axel Roxas Terra Ven Aqua Xion Sora Mickey Thats a total of 10 different people to play as. That would have made the final boss fights unique and super cool. You say that would have taken so much time and I say "Cool" but it would have been cooler to fight as these different characters. If they put in 2 extra just do them all. It is the most let down of let downs in gameplay mechanics. Who could they have fought in the game? Let's look at the villains Xigbar Marluxia Terranort Young Xehanort Xemnas Ansem Larxene Luxord Older Xehanort Evil Clone Riku Vanitas Saix Xion There are 12 total people to fight that are not the original Xehanort and each one could be fought with someone totally different. If Xion fights twice but wasn't really trying the first time she can be fine for the second battle. Let's give everyone a person to fight. Let's get the easy ones out of the way. Remember the ones who we fight first don't matter as much because each person not Older Xehanort do not matter even if they are him in other forms. Terra as the lingering will is gonna fight Terranort and get his body back. Riku can fight Ansem who tries to use his darkness and their past against him. Kairi can fight Xion who is noticed to not even be trying and then kairi can be captured to still do the ending they planned for. Xion who now defects can join and fight Larxene Axel can fight Xemnas and lose leaving him almost die while Roxas can jump out and fight him instead Ventus can finally defeat Vanitas Aqua can fight and defeat Xigbar who she has some history with Sora can fight and defeat Luxord so he can give him the card he was going to give. This fight can be more simple than the others and Sora can have to fight against the other Riku Mickey can fight Marluxia Before losing his fight with Xemnas Axel can fight and beat Saix We get to the final battle and while Sora who ran off to find Kairi he has to get through Younger Xehanort to get to the older one.
Look at that clean battle line up. Throw them in the correct order and you can have fights with so many people and even do the stuff needed for it to make the story go smoothly. Everyone gets to be unique and have their day in the sun. The final fight would be sora and gang fighting Xehanort and since the end game would be choose who fights who you can literally have over 120 different fights total if you leave out Donald and Goofy from the sora versions of fights. Heck allow us to fight the final boss final main form and we can in general have even more as we fight him with each character.
17: What is the difference between a heart and a soul? - This is a simple question because they keep saying we don't need the bodies cause we still have their hearts and I'm just having troubles figuring out if the story writers know the damn difference between a heart which is a physical thing or a concept of the soul which is the metaphysical thing. You know like what makes you you.
18: Why doesn't Axel have 2 keyblades? - Like I like that he holds it the way he does, it's very him very unique and all that but if Roxas can have 2 and he gets one from Xion who is no longer a part of him because she is right there than why can't Axel who is specifically a dual wielder of weapons get 2 of them? I mean give the main a sword that is like a Chinese Dao sword combo. It literally is a blade that turns into 2 blades. Like don't even tell me that shit is unable to happen cause Ventus fucking gets that strange keyblade because it is unique to his style so if that is how it works and they all have based on their personality he should have two. Especially since it would be a great call back to my favorite Axel line in the entire series. "Two!?"
19: Clone Riku should not be a boss - Remember when we beat the shit out of Riku as Sora and then Riku clone and then Riku beat Riku clones ass? He's not a challenge. "He was given more darkness powers" Nice, cool cop out there. Fuck you.
20: Why kill everyone just to set up a story line when you could just do it better - So this one is a little subjective. Need sora to meet Chirithy or whatever its name is and maybe set up remind dlc or whatever but in the end you could have just broke his spirit from his body and put him in the other world by making Xehanort who tried taking him over show him everyone dying and it causing Sora to blank out and travel there as a spirit or some shit. It could have worked just as fine allowing the rest of everyone else to go fight the enemies at the end giving sora time to eventually wake up and join in while Donald and Goofy protect him. Then when he wakes up Luxord who could have said "I'll handle the boy when he wakes up could have just did what he wanted to do with the card then. It's just a dumb moment and we could have instead of dumb gameplay where we have to put ourselves back together and have to save everyone and re watch a stupid ass cutscene just watched a cutscene and went back while everyone handled what they needed to.
So before I get into the final 4 parts to get into I hope that you know I was trying to be really fair with a bunch of these and not just looking for things to gripe about. When I didn't understand things I made myself look up to make sure I understood and didn't just bitch about it for the sake of bitching. These last 4 things are kind of in general I beleive super fair.
1: The battles stop as you talk with each person - Nothing kills a fight sequence like starting it, defeating a single enemy in it, talking with a full blown conversation to them, then as they die restart with another fight scene to do it with every single person in the fight. WHY WOULD MARLUXIA AND LARXENE ALLOW LUXORD TO GIVE HIM A CARD? Why would they stop fighting? Why would Ansem, Xemnas, and Young Xehanort watch as one of the others fell and talked? Why would any sane fucking person do that? It makes 0 sense and ruins that boss rush.
2: I know you need to set up another game but fuck you - You literally made the happiest of endings where everything is the best for everyone ever and I MEAN EVERYONE except for Sora and Kairi. Fucking fuck you man. I'm not even mad that that was the ending but when everyone comes up fucking peaches and cream I tend to question the product even if they need to set up story. They can do it better, do what you did at the end of 2 and send a message in a bottle and say "there are still other worlds out there that need us, just not in this universe" or some shit like that. Shit if in general they can have emotions in games than have sora have to jump into the game. You already said my microwave can feel love so than if he can be in that rex universe than he can just go in after he has a nice break with all of his friends.
3: No - Xehanort was not a good guy the entire time. He literally murdered people and stole a childs body and ripped the emotions out of another child and made them not whole. He got a child so angry he murdered his new sorta dad. He pretty much was the whole reason anything bad happened and he was "misguided and wanted to good but did bad to do so". Then in the end he's forgiven and everything is fucking fine? Then he turns into a good guy and goes into the big heart in the sky. This is the kind of writing that literally kills off stories for at least me. Not everyone needs a second chance and sometimes people are just evil. We need stories that have people die at the end sometimes. I know it is fantasy and it can be all rainbows and butterflies but dear god Steven Universe was literally "no you" and that was the end of the entire fucking series. This is the same thing. It might not be "no you" but fuck this ending. This was a story that was supposed to end a 17 year long story and the end of this single part literally spits in the face of people who played it by saying "hey guys, he wasn't bad, he is sorry now". That is complete and utter horse shit. I don't mind that this is not the end of the series. I don't care because if I stuck around this long I would do the same if the story had a satisfying ending. Fuck man in the new game he's even evil then unless that is just how Kairi remembers him but let's face it. The gang would have told her what happened and this is just horse shit in general. This is a fucking stupid story and I literally am fine with alternate realities since time travel and other dumb stuff has been the main name of the game the entire fucking time but let's face it. This is one of the worst ideas for an ending for a villain. The buold up is fucking massive and the payout is just sad.
4: NO - Fucking xigbar. I don't even know how to put this into words how much of a let down it is for Xigbar, Fucking XIGBAR to be the next main enemy. (or at least it looks that way). Fucking we could have had Luxord. We could have had Marluxia. We could have had Demyx. We could have had fucking I don't know Vexen. We could have had fucking anyone but we get Xigbar. You could have slapped any other character onto his scenes and gotten the same amount of out of nowhere shit to explain him being next but it is fucking xigbar. Fucking unreal.
So yeah. That's my massive wrap up on KH3 and I personally do not know where I stand from here. Maybe if the next game doesn't play like shit in 400 years when Nomura gets off his ass and lets us have kingdom hearts 3.76 tie in to 4 which is oddly enough a main title and not a second part of 3 I'll see how it plays. Until then I think I'm gonna sit hereand never touch 3 again and never finish Melody of Memory.

Terraqua Week Day 1 (Weak Spot)
Summary: We all have to make peace with the past. (In which Terra returns in Xemnasâs body and I scream SIZE DIFFERENCE.) || Word Count: 8,319
Read on AO3
A/N: AAAAAHHHH Iâm so excited that weâre doing a whole other @terraquaweek !! I have to apologize ahead of time, my fics this year are super long and super packed, but Iâm pretty proud of this collection and I canât wait for yâall to read! I canât wait to hear what you think! <3
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
When Time Takes You For Granted
Terra looks so different.Â
No matterâAqua has to fight. She canât hold back when he summons red sabers of light from his palms, canât falter when he hammers them against the staff of her Keyblade, canât blink when canyon dust is kicked into her eyes, canât be fooled by his face because this man is not Terra and couldnât ever pretend to be.
He opens his arms to conjure a fatal blowâbut he underestimates her speed. Sheâs grown up fighting large men. He is no big deal.Â
The man with Terraâs face withers when she strikes his midsection. One arm grips his stomach to hold himself together and he brings his other hand up. Dark tendrils evaporate from the leather of his gloves.Â
âAs you wish,â he says to her, richly voiced, smooth as a river stone. âFriend.â He staggers to his knees, groaning as he flickers away.
âTerra!â Ven calls, too fast for Aqua to hold back. The man still wears that same black cloak that marks him as a member of the Organization.
The man shivers when Ven shakes him awake, a quiet âAqua? Ven?â escaping his lips. He huffs out a hoarse chuckle that clutches out of pain, with a voice that sounds like a morning at the summit of a mountain. âVen, youâre so short.âÂ
There he is.
âTerra.â Aqua rushes over. âCan you hear me? How do you feel?â she asks, checking for signs of physical injury, a refusal to use a limb, the inability to breathe.Â
His breath stutters. âAqua?â There he is.
âIâm here.â
He pants, opening his eyesânow blue again, his hair dark again, there he is. He jerks forward as if desperate to find her, but itâs like he canât see her. In a drunk and feverish whimper, barely with the strength to sit himself up, he stumbles back. âAqua. Aqua, I have to tell you something.â
âDonât worry about that,â she says, checking his temperature with the back of her hand, âjust rest.â
âNo, I have to say it,â he mumbles. âI have to. I didnât last time, I didnât and look what happenedââ
âOkay,â she whispers. âGo ahead.âÂ
He pauses, moaning, âIâm sorry. I love you.â
âWhat?â
Ven bursts into a fit of hysteria. âPerfect timing, Terra. Ten out of ten.â
But Terra seems unaware, straddling between the drift to sleep and the fight to stay awake. He nods as if to confirm, mumbling to himself like a baby.
Aqua stares at him, her heart itching to hear it again in case she misunderstood. She has daydreamed of this momentânot like this, anything sweeter than this but genuine all the sameâand yet it comes to her like a splash of ice on the face. Terra is older. He has more pronounced cheekbones with less elasticity in the skin, folds of dimples and knowledge when his lips twitch, a thicker jawline, a stronger nose. A glimpse of the future, his long brown hair stretching past the shoulders, oily and excessively gelled up for ridiculous bangs. Aqua brushes his cheek with her fingers.
She should have said something years ago, too.Â
âWhatâs going on?â a voice calls out. Rikuâs. He skids to a stop when he sees them. âIs that Xemnas?â
The man Aqua fought never introduced himself, but he sure liked to talk a lot. Whoever he was, heâs not relevant anymore. âHeâs delirious. We need help picking him up.â
âWait a minute,â Riku says, approaching them with a smidge too much caution for Aqua to appreciate. âIâve been fighting Terra all these years?âÂ
âXehanort,â Aqua says quietly, wrapping Terraâs arm over her shoulders. She shuffles her knees. Heâs too heavy. âYouâve been fighting Xehanort.â
Riku nods. Itâs his way of apologizing. âWell. That sucks.â He offers to take the other arm. âXemnas was the leader of the first Organization. A self-inflated piece of work⊠I didnât know who he really was. I didnât recognize him.â He pulls a smile to his face and nudges Ven with his elbow. âSora and I made sure to give him a hard time.â
Aqua wants him to stop talking.Â
Footsteps approach them, crunchy with the sound of sand and dirt, and Aqua braces herself for whatâs to come. Riku whips around to prepare an explanation, but itâs none other than Kairi.Â
She sees them with wide and round eyes. Brings her hand to her mouth. âRiku?â Kairi says specifically, asking him questions with her eyes in a private language Aqua canât understand.Â
He shrugs. âWhat do you want me to say?â
Kairi sits on her knees, her skirt too short to cover them from the dirt. âThis poor boy. Itâs not fair.â
Aqua purses her lips. Ven stares past everyone else.Â
âWeâre all getting punished,â Kairi continues like the sting of knowing that after all is said and done, Sora is gone somewhere and here are Aqua and Ven picking up their own brittle, little pieces. âLook at him.âÂ
Riku sighs. âI have space in my Gummi ship for him. But we need to be quick about it.â
Kairi gasps, wide-eyed. âThatâs right.â
Aqua doesnât want to ask why. Ven does it for her. âWhatâs up?â
âWe canât let the others see him,â Riku says.
Too late. Roxas appears on the other side of the clearing, heavy in breath. Heâs sweet and gentle even when it seems like his mind is a distance away. He looks exactly like Ven but nothing like Ven, a grimness to his smile and a thoughtfulness to his speech like heâs seen and knows too much.Â
Roxas frowns. âWhat are you doing?âÂ
âWeâre helping him,â Aqua says as a matter of fact, flexing her ankles to stand up with Riku, shouldering half the weight. Terra stumbles on his feet, mumbling something about not wanting to step on any mice. âThis is Terra, by the way.â
Roxas stares. âWhy?â he asks accusingly.Â
Aqua stammers. How this boy who has been ripped away from his own friends could ask such a thingâÂ
âCome on, heâs our friend,â Ven says.Â
âYou call him a friend?â Roxas points at Terra. âDo you even know what heâs done?â
Xehanort. What Xehanort has done, but Aqua stops herself from snapping. She says softly, âTerra would neverââÂ
âWhat if Terra saw what happened? What if he knew? Is he the type to be okay with that?â
She glares at him. No answer comes to her, except when Xemnas called her a Friend.
Kairi steps forward, arms out like a barrier. âHe needs medical attention. We donât have to talk about this right now.â
And they wonât have the chance. Xion slowly comes up behind Roxas. Theyâre both dressed in the same black cloak that Terra wears like itâs a mark, a forced tattoo. She has her hands cupped into each other, bringing them to her chest like theyâre a shield.Â
âRoxas?â Xion asks. She looks terrified.
âForget it,â Roxas says, turning over and tugging her by the elbow. âThis is dumb. We donât need to care or be here.âÂ
Aqua refuses to fight this battle, not when Terra is wheezing and flinching as if heâs being crushed under mineral and earth.Â
âKairi,â Riku says solemnly, âjust guide us back to the ship.â He says to Aqua, âIf itâs any consolation, I think he wouldâve done something if he knew.âÂ
Aqua nods, choosing to create solace out of his delicate comfort, if only to find the strength to drag Terra across the desert.
Itâs a laborious but peaceful walk, what with Kairi talking about healing potions (Iâve learned some during training, maybe I can make Terra one?), and Ven excited about the first meal theyâll have together as a trio again (Pancakes, Aqua. Pancakes.), until they find Lea standing in front of the Gummi ship. He has his hands in the pockets of his cloak, and Aqua wonders if heâs concealing weapons.Â
Lea is a double-sided coin. One side a mask with a running end of jokes and playful jabs designed to hide the other, steely and scrutinizing.Â
âI promised myself I would never see Roxas that upset again,â Lea says, as if to blame them for breaking it. âIâve never seen Xion that upset.â That brand of Lea-lilt in his voice, the one he uses every time he spits out Got it memorized?, is gone, and Aqua admits she respects him more for it. Lea nods over to Terra. âShouldnât we leave the trash where it belongs?â
âYouâre really going to ask that when youâve been pining all this time for SaĂŻx?â Riku snaps.Â
Lea laughs. âYou might as well shave my entire head and tell people Iâm ugly.â He chills over. âIâm no saint either, but donât compare us toââhe points at Terra, not Xehanort or Xemnas or whoeverââhim. You want to know what I think of Xemnas? He doesnât deserve an ounce of the worst. The core of rotten fruit. The smell of ass after a trip to the bathroom. The pits of the ocean where all the fish shit clump together and the bloat of dead flesh float around.â
âDonât mind him,â Riku tells Aqua and Ven. âHe likes to exaggerate.â
âI like to make a point.â Lea steadies his breath, hot petrol on the verge of exploding, letting the steam lose pressure. âI like to tell the truth when it matters.â
Aqua glares at him. She doesnât know Lea that well, and doesnât know what matters of truth are supposed to mean. But she holds her head high. Her truth screams from the inside of her head.Â
âTerra would never,â she announces.Â
Lea scoffs.Â
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Ven trips on dragging fabric. Theyâre taking some of the Masterâs old robes to Terra, who canât fit into any of his own clothes anymore. The castle at the Land of Departure is stiff and quiet, like a long-lost stranger. Home isnât home but a dream, a memory, a trip through aged photos.
âI donât think this is going to work,â Ven says in a sing-song voice.
âThe Master was a large man,â Aqua insists.Â
âYeah, but Terraâs bicep is bigger than your head now.â
Thatâs true and⊠not something Aqua wants to think aboutâhis body though, itâs impressiveânot if she wants to hide the blush in her cheeks. Terra is huge now, the crown of her head reaching the base of his diaphragm. Heâs so broad that if he hugs her, sheâd disappear into the flesh.Â
Aqua and Ven turn the corner and enter Terraâs room, who has a towel wrapped around his hips. Heâs fussing with the wet roots of his hair.
âSo much grease,â Terra complains, scratching his scalp with the pads of his fingers. âWhat the stars was this guy thinking with all this hair gel?â
Aqua stares at the wood of his dresserânot at how sculpted his muscles are (more than ever, actually). Not at the chisels and grooves on his back as he breathes and moves to grab a robe from the rumpled stack is Venâs arms.
âThat one will look nice,â Aqua says, eyeing the ivory color of the robe Terra chose.
âMight,â Ven corrects. âMight look nice.â
Terra snorts. âWhatâs that supposed to mean?â
âYouâre bigger than a rhino.â
He laughs. He sounds the same. âAll the more to terrorize people with,â Terra says and it wretches at her chest.Â
âGlad to know youâre still an idiot.â
Terra slips his arms through the sleeves, pulling the robe over his shoulders and across his chest. Itâs not flattering. The seams are stretched, the threads exposed, and it wears on his shoulders so tightly that the muscles form hills under the fabric.Â
Ven points and laughs. âI told you. No one listens to me.â
Aqua pulls the robe off Terraâs shoulders when he slouches into his chair. She tosses it with the rest of the Masterâs unfittable artifacts onto Venâs arms. âCan you take care of these? Iâll stay and help Terra.â
Ven eyes her. With a knowing grin. Like an imp that should be slapped. âDo what? Put his pants on?â
Terra gapes. âWhat?â
âYouâre obnoxious,â Aqua says to Ven.
âYouâd miss me if I wasnât,â Ven says with his nose high to the ceiling. He leans forward, the imp smile stretching to reach ear to ear, curled upwards. âBut Terra would like it, wouldnât he?â
Terra coughs and clears his throat. âVen, get out.â He waves his armâand a crash explodes before Aqua can understand what happened. Everything in his roomâhis shoes, the coat rack, the lamp by his bed, his pillows, books from the shelf, dirty laundry that hasnât been washed in a decade, dust collected from the same amount of timeâfly at Ven. The comforter in particular is what knocks him over.
âWhat was that?â Ven squeals, sitting up from the rubble. âWhat was that?â
Terraâs lip quivers. He stares at his hands. âI donât know.â
âItâs okay,â Aqua says, bending over to stack books in her arms. âVen, get a broom and some rags. Weâve got some cleaning to do.âÂ
Ven trips before heading off, like he couldnât wait to get out. Aqua has a feeling heâs going to bug her for details later.Â
âIâm so sorry,â Terra whispers, balling his hands into fists and shoving them into his lap as a preemptive measure.Â
The Organizationâs cloak sits thrown on the floor, still dusty. Aqua pads the excess off.Â
âDonât worry,â she says, pulling cheer from somewhere inside to lighten the mood. âIâll sew you a new robe.â
Terra wonât look at her. He mumbles her a word of thanks when she hands his dirty cloak over.
âLeather canât be scrubbed like everything else,â she explains. âIâll clean it later.â
âItâs fine,â Terra says, holding it in his giant hands. He doesnât move to put it on, and instead stares at the large mirror hanging over his desk in front of him. Aqua stands by his side. Sheâs tall, but she never once considered herself as thin, her frame skeletal by comparison.Â
By comparison, she hasnât changed.
Well, she has. Her smiles are not the same.Â
Terraâs hair is messy, now with much more for her to brush her fingers through. She doesnât try. âI donât remember any of these,â he whispers.Â
The scars. Knicks in crossed-over patterns across his chest and biceps. A rippled scorch mark by his elbow like a crater, a gouge on one side by the stomach, a deep ravine on the other, near the ribs. More on his back, a textured map for nowhere to go.Â
âNot a single one.â His voice cracks.Â
Aqua caresses his shoulder. Those scars are not stories he needs to hear. âWhat do you remember?â She actually doesnât want to know, in case Roxas was right.Â
âNothing.âÂ
She wants to be relieved, but she isnât. âNothing at all?â In twelve years?
âNo.âÂ
Aqua wraps her arms around his shoulders from behind him, aware of how he tenses at first and relaxes after, a puzzle piece fitting in exactly the right spot. âWhere were you?â
âI donât know.â He sighs, leaning his head onto hers. âI wasnât anywhere, I⊠I donât want to talk about it.â
âThatâs fine.â Twelve years of nothing and twelve years living with nightmares; thereâs not much to talk about. She traces a divot on his shoulder. âI know this one.â
âYours,â Terra says. When he smirks that way, he looks the same as he always had.
âI stabbed you with a wooden sword.â
âMy wooden sword.â He brushes his fingers on the scar. As if heâs reminded of something, Terra frowns. âI was just a kid.â He studies his skin on the reflection, pulling on his face with his fingers, watching the way the skin ripples, the sharpness of cheekbones, the dips and dimples that didnât used to be there. There are thick streaks of silver underneath the outer layers when he brushes his hair back. He never asked for this. âCan we get rid of every mirror in the castle?â he whispers.
Aqua lets him go. The way he asks makes her want to try memory alteration, to slowly erase what haunts him so he doesnât have to deal with harsh reminders or sudden blows to the mind. She forces herself to smileâif she shows distress, it would only upset him more. There is nothing they can do about the past and there wonât be a mention of what itâs robbed from them.
âMaybe just the one in here. Iâll help.âÂ
Terra stands up and takes one of his old, simple cotton shirts that he prefers when he goes to bed while Aqua tests the bottom part of the ornate frame. It wonât budge, heavy as lifting a boulder.Â
âI look ridiculous,â she hears Terra say. The shirt is as tight as second skin, what used to sit on him loosely now gripping for dear life across his upper stomach, his belly button exposed.Â
Aqua purses her lips, heat to her cheeks. âDo you remember waking up?â
âWhere?â Heâs layering the cloak over the scandal.Â
âAt the Keyblade Graveyard.â
âNo,â he says. Sheâs known him for years. She can tell heâs sincere. âWhy?â
âJust wondering how far your memory goes,â she says, playing serious. Sheâll have to figure out a different way to bring up that conversation. âI canât lift this alone.â
âNot a problem.â Terra grabs his side of the mirror and lifts it off its hook like itâs a single piece of paper. He clears his throat. âUmâwow.â
âThatâs impressive,â Aqua says, and Terra blushes purple.Â
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Aqua makes it back home in time for lunch, and finds Terra sitting on the bar that splits the kitchen from the dining room, wearing his cloak with the zipper open, no shirt and leather pants. It must be blistering hot in those considering the sunny weather. Heâs complained about having to sleep naked.Â
She presents him with several bags on the counter. Rolls of fresh cotton shirts and pants for lounging, nylon for sparring and wool for the winter. He splits a warm grin when he feels how soft they are. It almost brightens his deep dark circles.Â
âI also found these gorgeous fabrics,â Aqua says, showing him the silk she means to make him a new robe in that same ivory color, with embroidered, rust-colored strips that sheâll use for the borders and trims. âThis will look good with your armor.âÂ
âLet me show you what Iâve been working on.â On his lap are a set of the Masterâs old hakama. Terra is attempting to tailor itâŠall through hand sewing, the needle swallowed by his thick fingers. The threads are bunched up and knotted over, if they donât skip some parts. âWhat?â he asks. She must be making a face. âItâs ugly isnât it.â
âNothing that skill canât help,â Aqua says, taking the pants from him and not apologizing for anything.
He taps the counter with his fingers. âRiku told me about Xemnas.â
Aqua stops the urge to groan, folding over the fabric carefully and pretending that name doesnât boil her blood. âWhat did he say?â
âXemnas was a telekinetic.âÂ
That explains some things. âOkay.â
âApparently he could lift entire buildings.â
Aqua snorts.
Terra leans forward. âHey, you canât blame me for the back door.â
âBut it makes sense.â
Terra has blown open said door. He has also destroyed historical statues and windows that are difficult to replace. He has even ripped a tree from its roots when he practiced his powers outside. The more he gets scared of these abilities, the more destructive he becomes. Terraâs body is not entirely sane on its own eitherâheâll step on pebbles, on glass barefoot, and he canât feel a thing.Â
âCan you answer Riku for me?â He pulls the Gummiphone from his pocket, the device smaller than his palm. âThe buttons are too small. Iâm thinking of asking Chip and Dale to build me a custom-sized one.âÂ
She takes his phone, the screen smudged with his round fingertips, larger than her nails. âAre you going to stop training your new powers?â
He flinches. âTheyâre not mine.â
âWell...â she says gently, cradling his phone in her hands. Itâs warm from his touch.Â
âNot that I can control them.â He huffs, frustrated enough to crack the counter in half if he tries.Â
âWhy donât you show me how far youâve come?â
He glares at her.Â
âThe oranges.â She points to the kitchen on the other side of the room. Oranges, pears, and apples sit in a wooden bowl by the sink. âPick one of them up.â
âThatâs a little too much to ask for.â
âOne tiny orange?â She smirks. âYou can balance it on your pinky.â
He scoffs. âYou talk as if you like me like this.â
Aqua clears her throat, suddenly deep in a trench that she canât climb out of. âYou canât help what happened to you, but you can help yourself.â
Terra rolls his eyes. âYes, maâam. Stars, itâs like being in class again.â
âIâm pleased with that. Try sliding the bowl over.â
Terra leans his elbows onto the counter and opens his palms, his fingers curled like claws. What surprises her is how fast the bowl responds, like itâs channeling an emotional reaction, immediate and neurotic. It rattles, as if it weighs several tons under an ocean.Â
Aqua looks over at his furrowed concentration, sweat glistening as though heâs wrestling instead of picking up fruit. âWhatâs stopping you?â
âI donât know whatâs going to happen.â
She smiles. âThere was a day when we didnât know what our Keyblades would look like. That was exciting and terrifying at the same time, remember?â
âYou sound like the Master.â
âI take that as a compliment.â
Terra grunts. âFine, Iâll try harder.â Though he doesnât have to prove anything to Aqua. Ever.
Terra waves his hands to the right andâdisaster.
The bowl flips over and crashes into the fridge.Â
Plates and mugs burst out of the cupboards, shattering when they hit the floor. Pots and pans soar, crossing the entire kitchen and slamming into the grandfather clock, destroying the glass casing and tearing apart the inside as gears sputter to the floor.Â
The clockface nearly lands on Venâs head when he enters with a glass of water in his hand. He freezes. It cracks when it hits the tile. Forks, spoons, and other utensils spin past him and stab the wall, the knives wedged into it.Â
âVen!â Aqua calls, running to him. Heâs fine. If anything, heâs shivering from shock.Â
âVen,â Terra starts, scrambling up from the stool but he flicks his hands too quickly. The water from Venâs glass splashes him on the face. âStars, Iâm so sorry.â
âDonât,â Ven says, wiping his face. âWorry about it.â He inhales. âYou nearly impaled me.âÂ
âIâm sorryââ
âSit,â Ven says, pointing at Terra. âOn your hands.â
Terra does as heâs told, slumping his shoulders over as if to shrink. But itâs a parody, an elephant hiding behind a palm tree, a giant monster puppy rejected.
Ven looks over the destroyed grandfather clockâit was one of the Masterâs newer ones, who developed a fondness for them late into his life. âThis one was a stars-damned eyesore, anyway.â
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Aqua is dressed in her shorts and shirt, preparing for bed when she hears another crash, this time a dull crack, breaking apart right outside her bedroom.Â
Terra is carrying a door handle, still attached to shards of wood. He is furiously shivering, wearing the new clothes she bought for him.
âTerra, are you okay?â she asks gently.
With effort, he calms himself, the handle shaking in both of his hands, a hole in his door the only other thing amiss. âI can fix it.â His undereye circles are getting awfully puff, his voice broken by static.Â
âYou should really get some sleep,â she says, stepping out.Â
He sighs forcefully, as if to ask her to stop. âI canât.â
She nods. âItâs hard for me to sleep, too.â
âI canât help but feel like my body is going to sleepwalk without me knowing.â
âI donât think it would.â She smirks but it doesnât comfort him. âI take rounds around the castle sometimes. I would notice if youâre a zombie.â
His lips quiver, and he squeezes the handle as if to snap it on purpose. He doesnât. Terra turns to her but stares hard at the floor. In a voice so quiet that he sounds like a small boy, he asks, âCan you stay with me tonight?â
Her heart jumps, trying to wretch itself out of her chest. âTerra?â
âI want to sleep. I canât. I think it would be easier ifâŠâ He fiddles with the door handle, a shy boy unable to speak. âIf you were with me.â
Aqua smiles. Heâs braver than her for asking. âIâd feel safer behind a locked door. Come in.â
On her desk is her sewing machine, the pattern of his new robe designed, his measurements already taken, the fabric put together in pins and ready to be weaved with thread.Â
But there is a mirror in her room, and when Terra enters, he stops in his place.Â
âIâm sorry,â she says, moving to pull one of her bedsheets to cover it.Â
âItâs fine,â Terra says, but sheâs too fast, balancing out the coverage. He slouches on her chair and leans back with a grunt. His fair falls behind him like a cascade. Itâs always been wonderfully thick and dark. Aqua indulges this time, brushing it with her fingers, tempted to braid it. He audibly relaxes, and says, âRiku told me what happened in the Graveyard.â
Aqua swallows. âWhat did he say?â
âHow Roxas and Lea reacted.â He gets quieter the more he speaks, words slipping into weak whispers. âTo me.â Tears drip out of his eyes, running to his ears and down his neck. He sniffs. âXion is terrified of me and I donât know how to live with myself.â
âItâs not your fault, Terra,â she says softly, lightly rubbing his scalp when she sweeps his glorious hair, brown and silver like silk on her skin. It soothes him.Â
âKairi said the same.â
âKairi is wise.â
âShe wants to find a way to get us all together.â
âI think thatâs a great idea,â Aqua says, and he groans. âLet me figure out how to set that up. Iâll coordinate with her.â
âI donât think that will end well.â
âWe should try. We all have things in common and have faced similar hardships. We need each other as friends.â
âBut look at me.â
She does. Heâs beautiful. âIâm looking.â
âWhat am I going to do?â Terra has always been too sensitive for his own good. Aqua thinks about who sheâd possibly call to help me. âTheyâll never talk to me.â
âYouâre already trying your best.â
âAqua, Iâve been a beast since Iâve been home.â He rubs his thumb and fingers together. A body that fails him.Â
âTerra, please, youâre fine the way you are.â
âTwo more grandfather clocks under my belt and all the vegetables in the garden in my pocket,â he reminds her.
âLetâs try one more time,â she says, taking his hand. âI think if you could outwin your powers, youâd feel better.â
âYour room is too immaculate for me to mess with.â
âNot my room. On me.â
âWhy would I do that?â Terra stands up.Â
âI think if thereâs a parameter that youâre forced to work under, youâd improve the way you want to.âÂ
Terra pauses. âAnd put you in danger?â
âIf thatâs whatâs going to work.â
âI care too much about you to do that.â
âI know you love me,â Aqua says, startling herself. She shouldnât have said that, especially now that heâs staring at her wide-eyedâbut theyâre best friends. Of course he loves her. Of course itâs the most natural thing to say. Thereâs not much more to imply. âYou wonât hurt me.â
âIntentionally,â his voice croaks, looking everywhere around the room except at Aqua.
âWhat do you want out of your training, Terra?â
âI want to feel less like a freak.â
âHere I am.â She widens her arms. âHit me with your best shot.â
âWhat if I fling you out the window like a rag doll?â
âYou wonât.â Now sheâs nervous he will.
âOr burst your skull open?â
âThen donât.â Aqua swallows.
Terra sighs and runs a hand through his hair, the silver glistening from the light of her ceiling lamp.Â
âBe gentle,â Aqua suggests.
Terra hesitates, one step too far behind necessary confidence. She takes both of his hands in hers, and he gives her a feathered squeeze in return.Â
âPromise me you wonât break,â he says.
âPromise you wonât break me.â
He blinks back tears when he holds her waist, his hands a hearth through her thin shirt. Heâs about to pick her up but he lets her go instead, intentionally widening his hands as if pulling strings. As though gravity has shut off, the air around her loses all weight. Her feet lift off the carpet and sheâs suspended above her dresser, her limbs moving slowly as though sheâs underwater. Terra trembles from so much concentration. Heâs worried, delicate with her, lifting her up like a cloud drifting over a mountain, her desk distant like itâs inside a doll house, her bed too small for a body to sleep in.
She gasps. âWow.â
Terra wrestles with a smile but every muscle is engaged as though heâs picking up a boulder.Â
âYouâre doing wonderful,â she says. When he looks up at her, he cries. âNow put me down. Gently.â
Itâs like sheâs asking him to drop that boulder, all collateral be damned. He groans, a vein throbbing on his forehead. Heâs hesitant at first but he exhausts when he finally relaxes. The threads that hold her snap. Aqua falls. Terra catches her by her bare thighs.Â
âYou did so well,â she whispers, holding onto his shoulders. Dust collects on the top of her door frame that sheâd never notice otherwise. âYouâre so tall,â she laughs.
He sighs. âIâm so tired.â
âOh, you can put me down.â
His arms stutter when he slides her off him, and he plops onto her mattress, the adrenaline making him tremble. But he smiles. Thatâs the most Aqua could ask for, and yet thatâs the thing, for some reason, that unplugs the dam.Â
âI know what itâs like,â she starts, resting a hand on his head. âI wish it never happened. I wish I didnât have to meet Xemnas, or that I fell into Darkness. Or that anyone hurt you. We wasted all those years.â
âDonât say that,â he says softly, tucking her hair behind her ear. âYou came back the same and you can redo all that time. Enjoy it.â
âBut you?â
Terra sighs. Heâs aged. He lays on her mattress, knees sliding off the edge and feet firm on the floor. âIâm okay. Iâve made my peace.â
When she settles next to him, she has to curl her legs in, fitting right into his side, her head on his shoulder. She relaxes to the way he strokes her hair. Peace shouldnât have to be made. It shouldnât be bargained for, it shouldnât be difficult to win in a twisted game. But it is for most people, isnât it? It is for anyone whoâs been betrayed, who has suffered misfortune, who has been robbed or tortured, who has been fractured into pieces with no reason to justify it.Â
Terra and Aqua have kissed before out of curiosity, years ago. It left her wanting more. And the wanting has led to yearning. And the yearning lingered on, Aqua choosing to wait for the right moment, for the right hour, for the right occasion, letting it all slip her by each and every time for the most mundane reasons. Terra and Aqua have napped together in the woods, in the shade of a tree after hours of sparring, shoulder to shoulder, one of them promising to wake the other before theyâre late for their lessons.Â
âIf I ever get up in the middle of the night...â Terra starts.Â
âWhere is this conversation going?âÂ
âAnd Iâm not actually awakeââ
âThatâs not going to happen.â
ââand Iâm walking around like a zombieââ
âPfft.â
ââplease hit me as hard as you can.â
Aqua chuckles. This shouldnât be a joke at all and yet what else is there left for them to do? âAs you wish.â
âPromise me youâll wake me up. No matter what.â
âOf course.â Aqua nuzzles her face into his shoulder, feeling the way his pec curves over rock-hard muscle. âAlways.â
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Theyâre in the study, where some of the most outdated books in the castle find their home, for decoration more than anything.
Terra has new suspenders and hakama pants. The robe sheâs designed for him, ivory with rust-colored trim, has one proper sleeve. The other is more of an open cape that curls under his armored arm, pinning at his shoulder like a shawl, made to show off the metal, burgundy and shiny. Heâs elegant, tall and intimidating, respectable and warm.Â
âI love it,â he says.
âYou almost look like the Master,â Aqua says.
âDo you think he would have liked it?â
âI think he would have been proud.â
Ven knocks on the door frame, holding up an Okay gesture. âNice getup.âÂ
Terra smirks. âIt makes me look less scary.â
âAre you going to throw away the black cloak?â
Aqua flinches, pinching the robe and straightening it, though not because it needs it.Â
âIâm still thinking about it,â Terra says. âIt depends on how today goes.â
âSpeaking of,â Ven says, and Aqua sighs. âAqua, heâs here.â
As though all breath has been sucked out of the air, they fall quiet. The crackle of the fireplace snaps.Â
âYou doing okay?â she whispers to Terra.
He nods, but his skin turns green.Â
âJust relax and get comfortable,â she says.
Ven follows Aqua to the entrance hall, where their guest has welcomed himself inside. Isa stands with a poise that demands to be matched with a level of professionalism. Aqua crosses her hands together and keeps them to herself.
âThank you for coming,â she says. When she messaged him to be a mediator, she wasnât sure what to expect. Lea and Isa may seem to be opposite but they are two peas in a pod that way. Lea is a book of riddles, one page contradicting its own backside depending on which version of him shows up that day. Isaâs book is blank.
âI appreciate your invitation,â Isa says, though an instinctual tick deep in her stomach tells her that appreciation was a difficult word for him to use.Â
âHey there.â Ven waves.Â
Isa raises his eyebrows. âHello, Ventus,â he says⊠and nothing else.
Ven glances at Aqua and blares a tight, awkward smile. âOkay. Well. Iâll leave you to it.â
After Ven leaves, Isa breathes, like heâs been holding it. âI suppose the rest of this visit will be similar.â The grin on his face is sudden whiplash for Aqua, his strict posture now with blurred edges.Â
âIn what way?â Aqua canât quit the habit of letting go of her hands.
âRoxas usually wears a scowl. To see the same face greet me so warmly, it was quite the surprise.âÂ
âAh.â
âBut a welcomed one.â His intense green eyes drill a hole into her. âBelieve me when I say that Iâm more than happy to come here and see him for myself, though it puts me in a fickle position with my family.â
Aqua brings her hands to her heart. âI think Sora would want us all to get along.â
âIf thatâs the angle you want to approach this with, Iâd say you have a moderate chance of convincing them.âÂ
She nods and leads the way. âHeâs excited to meet you.â
Isa doesnât reply. Terra is waiting on one of the lounge chairs in the study, telekinetically spinning pages on a book floating in front of him. He snatches the book as they approach him, and drops it on a nearby desk.Â
Terra doesnât say anything. Neither does Isa, who sits himself on a comfortable chair opposite and crosses his legs. Aqua, not knowing where to go or what to do with her hands, stands by Terra. Sheâs hoping for an amicable meeting, anticipating an interrogation.
Isa smirks and itâs not exactly inviting. âShall we skip the pleasantries?â
Terra nods like a dog scolded. âIâm glad youâre here,â he says with a shaky voice.Â
Isa hums, interlacing his fingers as he staresârather studies Terra with scrutiny. âDo you remember me?â
Terra shakes his head, choking on a cough. âYouâre asking the wrong person.âÂ
âAre you certain?â
âI know of you.â
âWhat do you know of me?â
âYouâre with Lea.â Terra licks his lips and balls his hands into fists. He only gets this way when heâs being tested, when he wants to get every answer correct. âYouâve had a complicated history with Organization XIII.â
âComplicated,â Isa repeats.Â
âYou were a Nobody.â
Isa smirks coldly, much like how Aqua would have imagined from the stories sheâs heard about SaĂŻx. âWe were brethren.â
Terra hangs his head. âI donât know much else.â
âHow is that possible?âÂ
âI donât know. I resigned. It was so painful not to. I was nowhere. Nothing to have, nothing to see, nothing to hear. I waited for an opportunity for it to stop hurtingââ Terra croaks. âAnd I woke up.â
Isa uncrosses his legs and anchors his elbows onto his knees, cupping his chin into his hands. âYouâve no memory of the command to manipulate Sora into vanquishing Heartless for us?â
âWhy wouldnât he?â
âTo gather enough energy to summon Kingdom Hearts.â
âThat doesnât make any sense to me.â
Isa sighs, and Aqua swears it sounds like anticipation. âAnd the scar on my face?â
The way Isa asks demands an explanation, and Terraâsweet, sensitive Terra, whose eyes grow hollowâcanât handle the implication.Â
âNo. Iâm sorry, Iâm sorry.â He grits his teeth, staring at the armrest. Aqua stops herself from speaking and holds his shoulder. There isnât anything for Terra to be sorry for.Â
Isa closes his eyes, trembling. After a moment, he jams his thumbs into his eyes and stills, silence befalling all of them, settling among the gentle presence of the fire and the movement of the clouds outside.Â
When Isa sits up, eyes glassy but kept together, he summons a smile. Softly, he says, âYou look nothing like him.â
Terra, at a loss for words, nods meekly. âDid you keep it? The black cloak?â
âOf course not.â Isa scoffs. âWe burned ours.â
Terra offers no condolences or congratulations. He smiles, exhausted.Â
Isa stands up. âPlease donât tell me you enjoy white wine with red velvet confections.â
Terra recoils, popping into a laugh as though heâs cracked under the pressure. âThat sounds like it tastes awful. I donât drink. I donât like losing control of my body.â
The sound of Terraâs laugh shocks Isa. âSensible.â He addresses Aqua with a look. âI must go. This has been⊠rather cathartic, and Iâd prefer to release it in private.âÂ
Terra bolts out of his chair, reaching out to cradle one of Isaâs hands in both of his.Â
âThank you,â Terra says, and though Aqua is behind him, she could hear the tears. âPlease come back whenever you feel comfortable. Iâd love to have your company.â
Isa nods, turning over his shoulder for the door.
The abrupt exit leaves Terra pleading Aqua with his eyes. âDid I say something wrong?â he whispers, slapping his forehead. âI couldnât honor his experiences. I should have figured out a way to remember.â
âThatâs not your burden to bear. It wouldnât help you anyway,â she whispers back, gently gripping his elbow. âIâll be back.â
Aqua trails Isa back downstairs, skipping steps. Itâs as though heâs in a hurry to get back home.Â
âIsa,â she calls. When he stops, she almost trips on herself. Her hands return to their crossover position. Something about Isa makes her so self-conscious, itâs indescribable how he can unravel her like this. âI wanted to thank you again for taking the time to come here.âÂ
His eyes are pink. âI will tell the others there is nothing to fear.â
âReally?â
âOf course. Lea is unbearably stubborn, but he is intelligent. He already knows Terra is not to be blamed. He simply hasnât buried his demons yet and that is his responsibility.â
Aqua sighs, relieved. âI needed to hear that.â
Isa doesnât smile. Instead, he traces a finger across the X-shaped scar over his nose. âTerra and I are forced to face our mistakes in the mirror for as long as we breathe. If we are ever to forge a new life from the ashes, we would need to throw our transgressions into a pyre.â
âI think your presence makes him feel less alone.â
âI want to apologize, Master Aqua.â
âFor what?â
Isa considers his words. âLea and I have lost so much of our youth to a worthless cause. It is not natural for us to enjoy freedom. We expect a harsher punishment to catch up to us any day now, to steal more time from us. Perhaps we deserve to live in fear of that every day. I certainly do.â He watches her. âI can see the story youâve endured this past decade in your eyes. Itâs horrific.âÂ
Aqua stays quiet.
âAnd Terra,â he continues. âHe will age and die long before you and Ventus. Iâm so sorry for that. The rubble weâre left with, it is such a weight for us to bear.â
She wipes a tear from her cheek, too proud to let them continue. âThatâs why we need to make the best of it.â
Isa smiles; this time itâs warm. He holds her bicep. âI agree.â
âWill you and the others join us for dinner? Terra speaks for all of us, weâd love to have you around.â
âBribe Lea with an extravagant experience and he will surely say yes. The children will follow once we assure them.â
Aqua nearly jumps to hug him but she keeps herself composed. Instead, she bows to him. His eyes pulse open.
âThat was not necessary,â he says.
âYou need to understand how deeply I appreciate this.â
âLea was right. You old-fashioned wielders are certainly an odd bunch.â
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
On her way back to the study, Aqua breaks into a sprint, desperate to fly so she could get to him as fast as possible, see his face when she delivers the news.
Terra sulks by a window. Before he could say anything, Aqua jumps and throws her arms around his neck in a clash of grunts, her legs dangling.Â
âTheyâre going to join us for dinner,â she says. She canât tell if sheâs the one whoâs trembling or if itâs Terra. Because her arms are wrapped around his neck, she drags him down with her when he relaxes. He rests his forehead on hers as he leans over her, his hair falling around her like a curtain.Â
âStars,â he whispers. âItâs happening?â
She smiles into his cheek. âHe wants to bring everyone with him.â
He squeezes her by the small of her back. âWeâll have to invite the others too. Riku and Kairi. NaminĂ©. It will be a feast.â
At the sound of his own words, Terra straightens out, and their fleeting moment of excitement vanishes as quick as it graces them. He nervously clutches a handful of his hair. âWait, how soon are they coming?â
âIs something wrong?â
âI want to wear it in a ponytail.â He brushes his hair up, exposing the silver near the scalp. âDo you think itâs possible to dye it?â
Thatâs what makes him so insecure? Aqua stands on her toes to fiddle with the hair. âCome on. Itâs a little tedious, but it can be done.â
Aqua snips the necessary plants from the garden, and after grinding them, she dumps the blend into a mix of water and animal fat. Terra slips his robe off and bends over the kitchen sink, letting her sweep the dye with a paintbrush and pinch it across the strands of his long hair with gloved hands. This is the tedious part, separating his hair into thin chunks and being diligent enough to leave nothing untouched.Â
âIt wonât last for long, right?â he asks, shifting his weight.
âI can find a spell to seal it and make it last longer.â She nudges him to turn his neck over so she can work the other side. In this direction, he can look up at her.
âThis feels like Iâm cheating.âÂ
âI think we all cheated. We all came back by some starâs blessing.â
Terra frowns. âWhen Isa wanted to know if I remembered anything, I felt like I was playing a rigged game. Like I had gotten away with it so easily when heâs stuck with them on his own.â
âBend your neck forward,â she says, and he follows so she could brush the dye into the back of the scalp. âWell, Isa doesnât blame you and no one should. And you do get away with certain things.â
Terra flinches but she keeps her hold on him. âLike what?â
Aqua pinches more of the dye into the hair at the neck, wrapping a towel around his shoulders. He will have to pass the time needed for the color to sink in. She canât wait until he sees it for himself in the mirror. She canât wait until he smiles more, until he can walk with seeded confidence.Â
âYou can stand up,â she tells him, instructing him that it will take almost an hour for the dye to settle. She pulls out her gloves and considers an answer to his question. âYou get away with what you say sometimes.â
Terra gapes. âDid I offend you?â
âNo.â She smirks. This has never been the way she daydreamed it would goâshe had prepared a scenario where they would talk about it under the stars in a clear night, in the spring where the flowers have blossomed. Not with yet another shirt that theyâll have to replace.âYou told me you loved me that day in the Graveyard.â He doesnât flinch. âAnd you donât remember saying that either.â
The bowl of dye rattles and Aqua catches it from falling over, spilling the excess into the sink and rinsing it. âTerra?â
âUh.â The cupboards shake as if about to spill open. Terra grabs the knife block and throws it into the fridge, just in case. âWell.â He splays his hand over the handle and burns it with a fire spell, molding the metal together so it canât burst open. âIâll fix that later. Um. Itâsââ He tips over the fruit bowl so nothing will fly out in different directions. He canât look her in the face, taking deep breaths. âI mean. Itâs notâitâs not a lie.âÂ
Aqua waits a moment, afraid another word is going to make the oven explode. âI should have told you the same.â She bites her lip.Â
âWhat are you saying?â The burner grates of the stovetop blow up and hit the cupboard over it. âAll this time, I could have known?â
âMaybe you should have done something about it.âÂ
âIâve been driving myself crazy wondering how you felt. Ever since we came back home.â
âAnd you said nothing?â
Terra stares at her. âYou know whatâIâm not protecting you from the oranges.â
âWhat are you doing?â She chuckles.
He flips the bowl back and waves his arm, five oranges punching her on the arm that sheâs using to shield herself.
âTerra!â
She stumbles as the oranges bounce back from the floor and arc over to hit her again. Terra squeezes his fists and the oranges unpeel themselves, sputtering juice all over her face, a tart taste filling her mouth.
Aqua laughs and runs into the dining room, ducking behind the table.
âGet back here,â Terra calls. He rushes into the dining room, clumsy enough to be caught off guard when she charges at him.Â
Aqua has to jump higher, kicking off his chest to flip over. The goal is to slam her foot across his faceâthe best sparring trick in her arsenal. Terra catches her by the ankle but his balance is tested when she bends her knee to throw him off. Heâs stronger, a tight grip on her calf. They both fall onto his back, a tower broken in two and collapsing on itself.
Aqua rests her head between his chest, giggling so much that her chin digs into his thorax.Â
Terra groans, his soaked hair leaving brown tracks over the tile. âYou got some on you.â He rubs a thumb on her temple where it meets the base of her hair. âHmm, youâd look good as a brunette.â
âIn your wildest dreams.â
âIf one can come true, then you never know.â
Aqua holds herself up on her elbows. Terra is so large, heâs a mattress in the middle of the dining room floor. Streaks of dye draw across his cheek. They leave what look like slashes across his neck. Itâs going to take some scrubbing power to remove them. She sweeps some of the hair off, not caring about the stain it leaves on her fingers.
The next move is natural. A touch of lips to lips, careful and giddy, puckered and softer than she expects, two hands on her back and a powerful jaw under the grace of her fingertips.Â
Ven opens the door and gags. âUgh, all the stars in hell, could you do that in your room?â He turns on his heel and stomps off. âIâm too young for this.â
Aqua snorts into Terraâs mouth and he spits. âIâm sorry,â she says.
Terra licks his lips of juice. He leans up for more. âYou taste tangy.â

Turns out I have some more feelings about the manga I finished yesterday. Not naming it so this doesnât end up in the tags. Please donât read this, lol. The fourteen year old version of me jumped out.
I think the thing that bugged me most about this last stretch of DN Angel is how much it felt like Yukiru Sugisaki was just...done with the whole thing. Like everything felt very rushed towards a specific, easy conclusion that didn't address a lot of the interesting pieces she had previously laid down.
Like, I remember reading those last few chapters before the eight year long hiatus and HOLY SHIT there was so much! The Dark/Risa relationship all of a sudden becomes an actual threat, not just to Daisuke/Riku, but to Daisuke himself! Satoshi completely lets his guard down around Daisuke, trusting that the person he loves will make this huge sacrifice for him, and when Daisuke refuses he POINTS A GUN TO HIS OWN HEAD. AND THEN WHEN HE GETS CAUGHT HE GOES OFF INTO THE FOREST WITH. THE. GUN!!! AND THEN!!!! RIKU FINDS OUT DAISUKE IS DARK!!!!!!!! IT'S WILD AS FUCK!!!!!!!!
And then we come back and a lot of this is immediately dealt with in a comedic fashion and we just move on. Dark and Daisuke don't talk about that Risa interaction. No one goes after Satoshi. Daisuke comes up with some excuse and Riku is satiated for now.
Then we got the whole dream circus arc. Which was honestly alright. I enjoyed Daisuke coming to terms with the fact that he cannot separate himself from Dark. They are one and the same, for better or worse. And honestly, at first I thought this arc was going to lead us somewhere interesting. Because if Daisuke and Dark now understand that they are a package deal, how do they deal with the whole Riku and Risa thing???? (The answer is they basically don't but I'll get there). I was 100% ready to love this arc and then they did...the thing and I...
Okay, look. Full disclosure, I've been a DN Angel fan since I was like, fourteen. It is linked to me in a way that can only happen when you're obsessed with something at the height of your awkward teen years. And the thing that continues to be my favourite part of the whole story is the relationship between Satoshi and Daisuke. They were my number one ship, not just at fourteen, but...honestly probably through all of my teen years. Like, remember when people used to make jokes on this website about someone asking about your otp and you pull out your binder of reasons? I literally made a Satodai binder. That's not a joke. They were it for me.
And, don't get me wrong, there was never a point where I honestly thought the manga was gonna have Daisuke leave Riku and end up with Satoshi. I dreamed about it, but didn't honestly expect it. BUT I loved the way the manga addressed Satoshi's feelings for Daisuke. This is someone who Satoshi treasures above all others. The person who makes him believe the world can be better. The person he would do ANYTHING for. Like, Satoshi LOVES him.
Which is why it's so frustrating to me that Yukiru Sugisaki decided it would be better for Satoshi to have a two second dream about Risa that changes all of his feelings instantaneously. Like, I'm not here to shit on Satoshi/Risa fans, and I'm happy y'all got your ship. Honestly. But, the two of them have barely spoken before this and then Satoshi has a dream and literally says, "oh I guess my feelings have changed now" like...two volumes before the end! AND THEN THEY DON'T EVEN TALK UNTIL THE VERY END OF THE SERIES. FOR WHAT????
It honestly just read to me as, the mangaka wanted to end the series and Satoshi continuing to be into Daisuke was too emotionally complicated to quickly wrap up so he loves Risa now. And hey, that clears up the whole Dark/Risa thing, right? I'll get to that.
ANYWAY, so then we jump into an elongated story about some past Niwa/Hikari drama which would've been fun if I hadn't been growing more and more confused as I noticed how few chapters were left and we were STILL ON THIS. Like, I love when DN Angel gives us fun new characters to talk about. Hell, the Freedert arc and the Argentine arc are two of my favourites. But, when you only have a limited amount of time...It just felt like this was something Yukiru Sugisaki was maybe sitting on for awhile so she didn't want to skip it, but she also wanted to finish the story as soon as possible so the ending comes IMMEDIATELY after which makes this whole arc feel...weird. Like...we could've spent our last few chapters on the characters we know and love but...instead...
Then we get to the endgame. So, quick poll, do we think the mangaka already had this ending in mind before the anime came out or do we think she decided to do the anime ending because she had no idea how to finish the story. I'm really not sure, but either way it felt soooo anticlimactic given that we've had the anime ending for almost 20 years. Like...what was I waiting around for if you were just gonna do the same thing????? And look, I honestly never finished the anime because I couldn't stand the way they chose to characterize some of my favourite characters (most notably Satoshi and Risa) and I'd read what the ending was and hated it lol. But I digress.
The thing about the ending that gets me most is that it all comes on so fast. Like, you wanna do the anime ending? Okay. Don't love the idea, but okay. BUT it all happens in like... 2-3 chapters. Like, all of a sudden the Black Wings is sucking up power from the artwork and, oh no, here comes Krad ready wreck shop. And then we, randomly at THE END OF THE MANGA find out Satoshi's adopted Dad is actually his real Dad and also he's a piece of artwork which makes Satoshi half a piece of artwork???? Why are you telling us this now???? Then Satoshi and Daisuke seal Dark and Krad into the Black Wings the end. Like...????? That's it?????
OH ALSO I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT THE HARADA TWINS ARE MOVING TO ANOTHER COUNTRY. HONESTLY PROBABLY BECAUSE IT FEELS LIKE YUKIRU SUGISAKI FORGOT TOO SINCE THERE'S NO CLOSURE ON THAT?????? (Honestly, I'm laughing because I literally forgot about this fact until just now. AGAIN WHAT WAS THE REASON LMAO!!!)
Okay, so the story's done but where does it leave our favourite characters???
Daisuke and Riku have figured their shit out and are...presumably going to do long distance??? Idk, they never really address whether they're staying together or not as far as I can remember???? Like, this is the relationship I thought we would get the most closure on but ?????????
Risa just gets to be sad for awhile I guess. It's honestly so infuriating to me that we got this awesome moment before the hiatus where Dark asked Risa if she would love him no matter what and she says yes with her WHOLE CHEST and that's enough for Dark to almost, like, take over Daisuke's body permanently. Like, her love for Dark is as real as Riku's love for Daisuke but she's not allowed to have a happy ending like her sister. She gets to see Dark one last time where he kisses her and hopes she'll always be his best girl and then he flies off into the night while she begs him not to leave. Then, she gets to cry in the street, trying to remember him while everyone else is forgetting. Well, at least she has Satoshi, right????
But like, we don't even know if she likes Satoshi that way. There's been...no indication that she does as far as I know. And as he's hugging her, Satoshi is having these thoughts hoping she'll be able to remember Dark because he knows how meaningful he is to her. So their ending is LITERALLY Risa gets to be horribly heartbroken and Satoshi gets to pine for someone else who, at this point, doesn't love him back.
Like, once again not to shit on Satoshi/Risa fans but...is this the ending y'all wanted????? Because as someone who stans them both this just felt horrible. It reads as a feeble attempt to "pair the spares" (since in the story the mangaka wanted to tell, neither of them could be with who they originally loved) but, like, even then this is the saddest way to do that. OH! And once again, if Risa is moving, ARE THEY EVEN GOING TO BE TOGETHER????? Like, what are we supposed to get from this what is the REASON??????
And then there's Dark and Krad being stuck in the Black Wings for eternity. The biggest reason I didn't like this ending in the anime. Like, look. I get that you have to end your manga somehow. BUT if your plan was to reunite Dark and Krad in this way I don't understand why you would write a whole interaction, mere chapters before, having Dark say that that's the LAST thing he wants to do. HE SAYS THAT THEY AREN'T THE SAME ANYMORE AND THAT HE DOESN'T WANT TO RETURN TO HIM. AND THEN HE'S FORCED TO DO JUST THAT. FOR. WHAT?????
Like, Dark isn't a villain. He's one of our main protagonists and has been this whole time. I get that in stories sometimes characters have sad endings. (I've already argued that I think both Satoshi and Risa's endings were bittersweet at best). But to have Dark say mere chapters before it happens that he categorically DOES NOT want to rejoin Krad and then force him to do just that feels like such a needlessly cruel thing to do to this character we're meant to love.
Once again, it just felt so much like Yukiru Sugisaki wanted to end the series as quickly as possible. I get her wanting to come back to it; she's kinda notorious for not finishing things so I get the impulse to just drive through and get at least one story done. But, it felt like so many things were skipped over or changed just because it made getting to the end goal easier and less complicated. Not addressing some of the cool shit she laid down before the hiatus, completely morphing Satoshi's feelings in a dream, writing off Risa's feelings for Dark, telling us all of the Satoshi backstory stuff at the last goddamn minute, giving Dark his worst nightmare as an ending, so many of these things done just to move things along towards a specific end goal as fast as possible.
Honestly, there's a part of me that wishes she hadn't come back and finished it at all. I was happy enough with the ending I had written in my head and would've preferred it to what we ended up getting ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ. Anyway, to anyone who actually read this (and a part of me hopes no one does lmao) thanks for listening to me ramble. And if you're a Satoshi/Risa fan, uh, sorry I hated on your ship lol. You're cool.
#can't believe i spent time writing an essay on a manga no one likes anymore lmao#sorry if you do read this it's near unintelligable

Thoughts about Yashahime pt2
Because I have more stuff in my mind and I have to ramble or else Iâll lose it. This is supposed to be a part of the overall post I did after watching season 1 but it was longer than expected so I made a second post. I wanted to post my thoughts on sessrin but that would make this more unbearably longer than it already is jfc.
This is my âadditional thoughts on season 1 stuff and what I wish to see in season 2âł filled with spoilers and actually have more screenshots.
Thoughts on Moroha:
I know youâve probably heard of it from everyone else but Iâll say my piece, too: they wasted Morohaâs character. I know the main protag is Towa and Setsuna (as seen by the summary) but itâs not an excuse to just... not give Moroha anything. Inuyashaâs main characters are Kagome and Inuyasha but they also gave their companions (Sango, Miroku, and Shippo) the spotlight with episodes dedicated to them and their issues and in battle, they do get to shine. Moroha keeps getting thrown off, injured, or passed out and the twins (esp. Towa) gets to finish off the bad guys (sometimes the buildup to it is too much but how she beat up the bad guy is anti-climatic). Itâs a waste cause sheâs a bounty hunter who is not only trained but also has a lot more experience than Towa does. She doesnât even have to land the finishing blow but at least donât make her lame.
I do understand why the battle in both Inuyasha and Yashahime is different though. The Shikon Jewel is powerful even when itâs in pieces. Even a shard could give an advantage to anyone who has it and so many demons are drawn to it and to the person who has it. The more Kagome and the gang get, the more enemies they would attract especially Naraku and his minions whose goal is similar to the protagonists that they also want the entire jewel. As such, there are many enemies to fight with and so even if Inuyasha and Kagome are fighting the boss, there are other enemies for their companions to fight with showing us what theyâre capable of.
Yashahime has the seven rainbow pearls which not everyone knows about and while powerful, itâs not as great as the Shikon Jewel that helped create it. Thereâs also just one main bad guy group - Kirinmaru, his sister Zero, and the four perils (one of them is dead before the story starts, too so 3 perils). Not all of them have minions or bring a horde of demons in battle so in a fight with the trio, thereâs a lack of enemy. Some episodes at least have 2-3 or so but the later boss fights are like, 1 or 2... and Moroha gets thrown off and the twins get the spotlight and thereâs no other enemy they can give Moroha who ends up being used as comic relief.
I hope this changes in the second season at least. Let Moroha show off more of her badass abilities. Even if she's a quarter-demon, she is also the daughter of Kagome and have sacred abilities which can actually fight off demons and make her immune to some debilitating stuff for demons like her as shown in one of the episodes. There's so much potential there!
Also, I wish they let Hisui be a part of the team. Like, heâs Miroku and Sangoâs kid. Canât he be a part of the main cast, too? Itâs a waste cause he is close with Setsuna having worked with her as a Demon Slayer. He could be incorporated in the story and could even give us insights as to what's happened with his family in the time when Inuyasha and Kagome disappeared and all that and even give a reason to have Miroku and Sango appearances from time to time.
Thoughts on Yawaragi and the wolves:
Another thing wasted. She helped raise Moroha who is a main character so she should've gotten a bit more screentime rather than everything about her shoved in one episode and is barely talked about after. If they just didn't do the whole mystery thing with Moroha's backstory they could've put more flashbacks with her time with Moroha earlier in the show. You can't tell me they weren't trying to make Moroha's past mysterious when she barely talked about her Master or her childhood with not even a single second of flashback showing up before the episode with Yawaragi. There's also that time when Towa asked why Moroha is trying so hard to get money from bounty hunting and then Moroha dodged answering. So many theories came out of that interaction! People thought her bounty hunting and debt is connected to her real parents even.
If they didn't go with this route we could've gotten attached to the idea that even if Moroha didn't have her real parents around, she's got someone else that care about her and their reunion and battle against each other would've felt more dramatic. I personally would've felt "No! She could've been here longer to see Moroha grow as a fighter and even talk to her parents once they're back!" but due to how it was done, I couldn't feel that. Moroha is already independent when she's introduced and again, we barely hear anything about Yawaragi. It would've also helped develop Moroha as a character cause we'd know more about her and how she became who she is now.
Also, Moroha is given to the wolf tribe led by Koga. Imagine if they showed that in flashbacks and expanded on it! Koga's a supporting character in Inuyasha and was even in a love triangle with him wanting to get Kagome. It would've been interesting to see the characters we knew from back then while also showing us Moroha's childhood.
Like, one of the things I mentioned that I wanted to see when I found out the sequel is about the next gen kids is seeing how the now grown up cast of Inuyasha interact with the kids and how they are as parents. With the kids' actual parents not around for reasons (depriving us of seeing how they'd handle being first time parents which is a shame), the kids' interaction with their foster family is the next best thing. They gave us a couple of episodes about Towa and her life with the Higurashi's (specifically, Kagome's now adult younger brother Souta and his family) and later Setsuna living in the hanyou village under Shiori - also a supporting character like Koga but appears only for a few episodes. Again, something for the twins but not much for Moroha. It could've been something!
Thoughts on Takechiyo:
He's kind of like the Shippo of the show but isn't treated like he is. I like it actually cause seeing the promotional materials made me think he'd be Shippo 2.0 but just like the other characters, he didn't become an actual copy-paste.
Takechiyo works for Jyubei just like Moroha does but he's more of Moroha's supervisor (could order her around and would send Jyubei reports of what Moroha is doing on the job) while also acting as transportation for Moroha (or Towa if bribed) towards where the demon they need to fight are. He's not a part of the main cast but shows up a lot due to the transportation thing.
He does seem to have a deeper backstory but it is barely touched upon at all. I do hope they do something about it in s2.
Thoughts on Riku x Towa:
From the episode where Riku is first introduced, many fans already wanted to ship Riku with Towa. They do have that feel to it with their interaction at the beginning - it's cute! It does get the spotlight and the fans do get an episode which is really shippy but as I pointed out in the main Yashahime post, it felt rushed.
The first time Riku appeared, they had a bit of moment and then Riku has Towa framed up for stealing a sword he probably took himself for entertainment, probably as there seem to have not been any important reason for this. It gets settled as we saw from episode 1 but it's never brought up again. When he shows up in front of the trio later on, he gets greeted like the issue never happened.
Anyways, Riku does get scenes for himself but it's either him being mysterious or interacting with the enemies (which made it hard for fans to pinpoint exactly where his loyalties lie and it was hard to know how exactly to feel about him). He doesn't have much interaction with the trio either only showing up from time to time and there didn't seem to be any personal talks either.. you know, bonding moment that isn't just going into battle?
I'm bringing all of this up because the shippy episode is, as I said, felt rushed. Riku suddenly feels something for Towa but it felt like it came out of nowhere due to the lack of meaningful scenes together. He's not human nor a normal being (he's a doll, apparently?) and don't understand emotions that well and the buildup to him suddenly having feelings for Towa felt unrealistic. Emotionless or stoic characters gaining an understanding of feelings, especially their own, is a big deal. Sesshoumaru himself, Towa's father, went through this and his character development from always annoyed and angry villain to actually-starting-to-care anti-hero is really fun to watch and it was something I looked forward to seeing in the original series. Riku's development didn't really have give the same satisfying feeling due to how it was handled. There was a lack of gradual buildup.
Upon revisiting past episodes and remembering that he doesn't think very well of half-demons and humans (probably cause of what happened to his mistress, Zero with the whole heartbreak thing) it makes the thing even weirder. I could maybe think that he might be lying to Towa but a couple of his actions later on like lying to Zero about Towa, it seems he does honestly care about her.
There's still a chance in s2 though since the two didn't really get together and were more "I don't get it but maybe I do feel something." in that episode. It's not fully romantic yet but could actually get there. With Riku being connected to Kirinmaru and Zero though, I'm kind of scared for how his character would develop outside of ships (like he could end up becoming a bad guy firmly on Zero's side with no hesitation anymore to uh... I do hope they don't kill him in the end).
His role of being in the enemy side but slowly cares for the heroes have so much potential for a fun story development!
Finally, thoughts on Kirinmaru:
Heâs been kinda weird from the start. He couldâve killed the girls himself when he found out about them but he didnât even though thereâs this prophecy thing which is strange. I mean it was talked about like it was urgent but then again, most of it seem to be fueled by Zero and her personal issues at being heartbroken lol.
Kirinmaru is as confusing as Riku when it comes to understanding what heâs on about and where his character is gonna go. A bad guy who doesnât really act like it and have mysterious plans. I guess thisâll be focused on in season 2. Hopefully. Please donât drag this out longer than it should be.
On the other hand, a minor thing: final battle between the girls and Kirinmaru at the first seasonâs climax: Setsuna is probably dead and her sister and cousin are enraged. Moroha goes Beniyasha-mode and Towa finally goes demon-mode and both unleash their most powerful attacks onto Kirinmaru. They got beaten which isnât as surprise at all cause Kirinmaru is supposed to be as powerful as the girlsâ grandfather who is a Daiyoukai and thereâs no way in hell a bunch of kids (with one lacking in a lot of battle experience) could suddenly beat him just like that.
Anyways, Moroha uses her most powerful attack which is something her grandpa, the Daiyoukai Toga created but had evolved into something more her own. Towa is similar with her using her most powerful attack that came from her father but this time, changed into something of her own. Kirinmaru notices and while blocking off their attacks actually talks to them basically saying âThese techniques youâre using that originally came from your grandfather and father respectively have been changed into something else by yourselves so you guys should rename them appropriately.â
He said it so calmly before defeating them afterwards. I thought âlol this guy sounds like a teacher.â
Hehehe
